Good luck @Pearldude. I would like to hear your good news!
by Pearldude on Feb. 4, 2022
I'm heading out there tomorrow for a overnight wintercamping fishing trip... wish me luck... looking forward to it. I may just park inland and walk out and set up camp. Will have to see.

by Fishsaurus on Feb. 2, 2022
There was no top water on Jan 15th. But the snow on the lake is quite thick. It took me hard time to walk 200 yards. If you drive on the track that other vehicles drove, it will be OK.

by jazzrod on Feb. 2, 2022
How good is access to calling is there lots of snow and top water

by Fishsaurus on Feb. 1, 2022
I fished Jan 15. The main boat launch in provincial parl was not good to drive down. I saw some people drove down to the lake from the smaller boat launch near the washroom area. It was a very slow day. I only saw a big pike tail through underwater camera. Not a single bite.
by Pearldude on Jan. 31, 2022
Thinking about doing an over night trip there. What's a good area to drive on at and what's the fishing been like here lately.
by Twitchjig on Jan. 4, 2022
Fished Jan 02. Did well for walleye numbers. Trucks starting to drive out. Curious if anyone has any tips on whitefish there? Appreciate any insight

by Hunter Iam on Aug. 30, 2019
Trolling or jigging on this lake?

by Mommy fisherman on Aug. 8, 2019
Hi, what is the latest walleye caught at this lake known to be hooked ? I have heard over 90 cm. But many years of fishing and biggest we have caught is 75 cm. Never heard of anyone o anyone catching much bigger when we were there.
by TJSmith on Jul. 22, 2019
Where can I find any reports on walleye records for this lake? Have 3 amazing outings this year so far and wondering where my catch measures up?

by Drewski Canuck on Mar. 25, 2019
Whites are tough because they feed on a small blood worm which are the larvae of the may flies - fish flies. Try a VERY SMALL red wireworm. What part of the lake did you find the whites at? Usually the whites are at 50 FOW ++ and their guts are hard as your fist with blood worms when they used to be netted commercially. There were some whites caught in the shallows on a jig and minnow in January though. Sometimes they will chase minnows. Drewski

by TroutSpecialistx24 on Mar. 25, 2019
Went to this lake last weekend, saw TONS OF WHITES all day day from 8am till sunset! Alot of curious buggers but they would not take our lures. Tried everything in our box and they would not bite on it. If anyone can give me tips or what they would use to catch whites out of this lake it'd be much appreciated! Frustrating... Went home skunked 😂

by Rookie07 on Mar. 12, 2019
Went out Sunday for 6 hours. 30" of ice about 2' of snow. Caught one 30" jack. Saw 4 nice size whites but no interest what so ever. No signs of Wally the walleye. Still beats a day at work.

by Stamps14 on Mar. 10, 2019
Coming from a ways away on March 23rd weekend. Was wondering lake access and how the fishing has been? I have a portable ice shack so I will be spending the weekend on the ice with my son. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks

by Black_wolf2019 on Jan. 28, 2019
Haven't been there myself but I've heard nothing but good things about it,might give it a go sometime soon, appreciate the lead partner.

by LordOfTheFish on Jan. 27, 2019
Hit Lac Sant for burbot. 100% you get a couple of you spend the day there

by Black_wolf2019 on Jan. 21, 2019
Calling was always one of my favourite lakes to fish but haven't been there at all since summer. I usually land walleye and jackfish and I may have an idea as to where the perch and whitefish might be. Probably a shot in the dark but I was wondering if anyone knew where the burbot might be,I heard more so towards the area where the Rez and village are. Or if anyone has caught burbs there before?

by younger_11 on Jan. 1, 2019
Ice is 12" thick. Some trucks were driving on. Fishing is slow.

by Walleye_Assassin on Dec. 31, 2018
Was planning to head out. Anyone know the thickness of the ice? Thanks

by Cwhitey on Dec. 29, 2018
Also want to head out ice fishing, any report on ice thickness?

by Fishergirl65 on Dec. 27, 2018
Can you ice fish yet? I herd someone say there is still open water is that true?

by Dougcuda on Jul. 18, 2018
Anyone been up lately? Looking to hook some Wally's tomorrow. How's the fishing?

by Lester D on Jun. 24, 2018
In spite of rumours of excellent fishing,we hit a really slow day. 4 walleye in 5 hours and none in the slot. What I really feel uneasy about was the surface water temp. at 18.4 degrees C. How bad is the blue-green algae going to be this year? One day on the lake last year during the algae bloom took me 31/2 hours to clean my hull and motor. And it can't be good for the oxygen content when all that algae dies and starts to decay.

by SteveY66 on Mar. 24, 2018
How deep are you catching whites? We caught them around 30' in past

by bezzola on Mar. 24, 2018

Average is 7.5 ” of rock hard, ice.

by Wstrncdn5time on Sep. 5, 2017
There was a billion midge flies everywhere, driving everyone crazy flying into your face and eyes. The South side of the lake had a thick bloom of algea that was really gross. Hope next weekend is better. I hear the fishing is great and perch are big if you can find them
by Chad_Fen on Aug. 9, 2017
Thinking about making a trip out this winter. Hows the perch fishing here?

by Lester D on Jul. 30, 2017
A light breeze pushed a crud line of blue-green algae through us that was so thick, our jigs couldn't go through it without extra weights. There was also an extreme current running from east to west. Once we fought through those 2 distractions, the walleye fishing was great with both minnows and leeches. Not sure I want to go back there for a while though. I hate having to clean the dried algae off my boat.

by Fishing2016 on Jul. 29, 2017

How is the shore fishing at Calling Lake? Any recommendations for good spots?

by goosehunter on Jun. 16, 2017
Walleye are biting good on jigs and green frog spinners. Bought a custom made frog Bucktail at Mad Trapper.ca on line and it works awesome. A lot of smaller Pike but nothing big.

by Weeman on Jun. 16, 2017
Yes netting is huge in calling and slave lake to, it's a crime if you ask me absolutely disgusting

by Lester D on Jun. 16, 2017
Steady walleye and jack on minnows. It still puzzles me as to why there is a zero jack limit here. Is there over netting, and in some cases that I have seen, nets left in and not retrieved. This is devastating to the fish in that area.
by rod.ers on May. 17, 2017
Has the ice left? Anyone been to the lake

I've been fishing this lake for 20 yrs and this past weekend was the best I've ever done, my fianc and I fished for 5 1/2hrs and caught 39, of which 5 were between 5 and 7lbs, only 3 were keepers, awesome day

by Giby on Aug. 16, 2016
I ve been fishing this lake for 6 years now. I have never been skunked on this lake. 5 of us fished for 2 solid days and only caught 1 fish. We went by the ranger station, boat launch and Volkswagen point. I think the natives netted this lake a bit to hard this year.

by Jaw jacker on Jul. 25, 2016
Fished the whole weekend. Covered pretty much the whole lake. Nothing but a couple small Pike. Lake needs a rest. Saw about 10 boats in one spot. This place is over fished

by Angler2016 on Jun. 15, 2016
Went out there yesterday. Spend the whole afternoon, from 1pm to 6pm to be specific. The four of us caught nothing but one pike!!!!

by Daddy Daycare on Mar. 13, 2016
Fished the lake on Saturday (March 12) for the first time. Found out the hard way that it can be very shallow, even 300 meters from shore. Hitting rocks/sand turned my new gas auger into a paperweight until I sharpen the blades. Luckily I brought a spare hand auger. We fished off the boat launch then another 700m to the west, both places in about 5' of water (ice 18-24" with slush on top). Target fish were eyes and burbot, fishing from 3:30-8:00pm. Didn't have any action until sunset when we landed 3 nice pike... which are back in the lake.

by rooster800 on Feb. 19, 2016
My name is Darren Spent 4 days on the lake starting January 29th we had a nice hot that we had heater in it so we spent a lot of time out there caught one pike but you can't keep it so we had to put it back and that was all we caught in four days of fishing tried it again two weeks later nothing absolutely nothing this lake is being over fish by nets in 2015 we were only allowed one wall I between 45 and 55 centimeters and no pike I believe in 2016 coming up we won't be allowed to keep anything but perch or white fish or burbot it's sad to see what's happening to this lake

by Bird hunter on Feb. 7, 2016
Fished hard for 5 hours stayed till dark caught one Jack and lost two never seen a fish on the Camera. Bueatiful weather and thre water is real clear

by stoneflier on Mar. 1, 2015
Drive your sports car on to the lake. 4" of snow with drifts to 10" on south and west sides of lake.

by stoneflier on Mar. 1, 2015
Easy access to lake via PP big boat launch, graded to lake
by Big blue on Feb. 1, 2015
It's odd that ice was well over 22" few weeks ago and now barely 4 inches thick...some reports are bit phony

by wallynuts on Feb. 1, 2015
I have a feeling the local people are the ones that blocked of the areas to get on the ice . All the years I have fished there its the first time that they did that. Someone should get out and move them I guess. Just as well because that lake is not safe to drive on with a truck . Maybe a few weeks. Not many people bother fishing this lake anymore
by iFish Guest on Jan. 28, 2015
Ice Report: 4 in
I just pulled a truck out of lake on north end not too far from rock island river. There was only 4to5 in where he went thru. About 4 feet of water.
by fishing1199 on Jan. 25, 2015
We were out this past weekend an could not drive the on the ice from either boat launches, we had to drive into the town. Once we found where we could drive on the ice in town past the gas station, this was the only location we found. we started fishing for Walleye and for 3 hours we did not see a thing. Oh well that's fishing

We were out on Friday during the -31C, could get into the park but there was no tracks heading out...other than quad/sled. Average ice 22", but found a couple at only 8". We ended up walking out from radio tower road.

by Zwen on Aug. 31, 2014
Just so others know, it's pretty hard to canoe fish in this lake because it's huge! Something I wish I had known. Definitely need a good boat to get to any good places.

by Outdoornut72 on Aug. 17, 2014
The algae was terrible, but the fishing was awesome, much better in the early morning hrs then in the evening, got our keepers by 10:30 am

by Papa perch on Aug. 15, 2014
The Algae and the green blue algae is very very bad and fishing is slow

by Lester D on Aug. 4, 2014
Depending on the wind direction, the algae can pile up and be real stinky. If you fish away from those areas, you can catch some nice slot walleye and some chunky jacks on jigs and minnows.

by Lester D on Aug. 4, 2014
by Wolfmanxxx on Aug. 1, 2014
Lots of algae

by Firemanespo on Jul. 27, 2014
Is there blue/green algae?

by FroDaddy327 on Jul. 23, 2014
The water is disgusting. Don't bring your kids here. Walleye fishing is decent but I wouldn't let a rat swim in that water

by sberwick on Jul. 14, 2014
Good day, caught a 70cm walleye just out from the boat launch with a silver spoon while trolling

by Stew-kuzz on Jul. 10, 2014
Fished yesterday. Fishing was a bit slow and wind picked up in the afternoon. Still got our keeper walleye and pike. Probably caught 50 fish between the 2 of us in about 5 hrs. Pike and walleye mixed bag.

by FishinPhil on Jul. 5, 2014
Big Jack caught and lots of Walleye hitting the rod.

by J man on Jul. 3, 2014
The lake is up this year. Lots of weekend warriors but fishing is steady.

by Mooser93 on Jun. 23, 2014
They netted the lake this past winter. Why would they do that. Fish restrictions 1 fish now, price to stay $30.00 a night.

by Lester D on Jun. 19, 2014
Caught close to 80 walleye in a 4 hour period. All were very healthy and several were in the 60-70 cm range. Some males didn't appear to have spawned yet which was strange. For whatever reason, we could not find a jack. Where are they hiding?

by flyofdestiny on Jun. 2, 2014
Out for 4 hours on Sunday, 1 keeper, 2 over 24" and one short. Slow fishing water temperature 50℉

Gow much black ice and how much white ice? From 16"

by iFish Guest on Jan. 20, 2014
Went out on Saturday. Was the first person to drive onto the lake this year. Ice is about 16" thick. Had quite a but of overflow going on by the boat launch. Fished all day. Only one Nice walleye. Drove all over the lake. Would recommend waiting till it gets colder.

by iFish Guest on Jan. 18, 2014
Anyone been out there yet. How's the ice. Any big pike yet.

by iFish Guest on Jan. 17, 2014
Can a fella drive on the lake from boat launch area ?? how thick is ice ??

by iFish Guest on Jan. 3, 2014
2 of the entry ways we checked were impassible because of heaves and drifted snow. 2 of us lugged our gear over the snow and through the overflow until we hit 8-9 feet of water. By then it was 11:00 o'clock. We had 40 minutes of non-stop jack hits. Kept our 2, one 72 and one 87 cm. Then we slogged our way back thinking one of us may be calling 911. Believe me, sleds are the only way to go. Oh, they were hitting jigs and minnows. I'm pretty sure we missed the morning walleye bite.

by A1963 on Dec. 26, 2013
Fished the 3km along the shore out front the park, 4'-20' of water. Caught one pike on a tip up and seen a single walleye.
by A1963 on Dec. 23, 2013

Decent ice. No flood water. Ice maintained same thickness every where we went

by Hanks picks on Dec. 22, 2013
Anyone been ice fishing here this winter?

by Preston on Sep. 17, 2013
They're biting again, big time. They're very "depth specific" this year-more than I've ever seen there. Do a search, drop some waypoints, hook on a 3oz bottom bouncer and spinner/worm harness and hang on! Just make sure you stay in the "depth zone".

by Smoke on Aug. 19, 2013
Have not located any blue green algae on the lake. Slow compared to past years but the lake is up a couple feet. Fish are still here. Good luck.

by iFish Guest on Aug. 12, 2013
Blue Green Algae warning again this year....Hard to believe in a lake this size!.

Forgot to comment. Love this lake. Fished for 2 days July 7, 8. Caught plenty of walleye in 6 - 7 feet trolling. My brother had 9 in an hour and a half. Lots of fun. Glad they lowered the limit though. Hopefully lake stays like this for years to come.

by iFish Guest on Jul. 5, 2013
I was just there for a week, the fishing is definitely slower than the past couple of years but still fish to catch. Early mornings and evening just out front of campsite worked out pretty well. We would just drift!!

by Bush on Jul. 5, 2013
5 to 7 FOW the fishing is awesome except 75% fish caught are over the size limit. They are biting on minnows

by iFish Guest on Jul. 1, 2013
man I remember fishing this lake when I was younger we never had a slow day, real sad to see this happen again.

by iFish Guest on Jun. 25, 2013
Slow.lake has slowed right down due to pressure I hope they close it next year.

by Lakeisle1 on Jun. 9, 2013
Slow fishing everywhere caught 5 fish in 3 days

by iFish Guest on Jun. 8, 2013
Fished all day got one pike very slow!!!
by Chrismac on May. 26, 2013
There's a rock to the left of the small boat launch, about 40 yards out. Wrecked my prop last year...

by iFish Guest on Mar. 31, 2013
Calling closed march one

by Hungry4e on Mar. 31, 2013
1 pike a good 4hr of fishing. Where did they all go? 12-15ft of water I guess I wasn't at the right spot.

by iFish Guest on Mar. 24, 2013
Tough going at Calling. Caught a cople of jacks and 4 walleye in 6 hours. Hard 20 minute walk to find 12 feet of water. Tons of snow and no way any truck would make it up there. Ski doo would be great

by iFish Guest on Mar. 10, 2013
Not much talk about this lake anymore. How are the walleye biting around the tower. Lots of ice?

by iFish Guest on Feb. 18, 2013
Has anyone been out as of late? Still driving out fine? A lot of flood water on other lakes in the area with this last warm spell ..Did calling get hit bad too?

by Bush on Feb. 10, 2013
Lots of snow and ruts but with a good 4x4 it's accessible. Fished today from 8 till 4 and not a single bite between the 5 of us

by iFish Guest on Feb. 10, 2013
Hows it up there? Can you drive anywhyere on the lake and are the walleye around

by iFish Guest on Feb. 5, 2013
thinking about going up for 1st time ,any advice on where to go for perch and walleyes ?

by Tacoma on Jan. 19, 2013
Was out last weekend.. Tried 3' to 25' of water and only saw nothing. Water was clear. The old guy we ran into who lived on the lake said fishing was very poor right now so not worth the drive! Don't bother with this lake!

by Fishery on Jan. 6, 2013
Fishing is five star!

by Fellowfisher on Jan. 5, 2013
Oh ya. And the ice was good for driving but the entrance onto the lake was a mess. Lots of trucks getting stuck.

by Fellowfisher on Jan. 5, 2013
Well I hit it pretty hard for two full days. One really nice walleye on day one and one descent pike on day two. Really slow fishing but well worth it for anyone trying to get that early January walleye. Hoping it gets hot in feb.

by perch sniper on Jan. 4, 2013
Thinking of heading out to calling...anybody have any good spots they want to share??

by Ryan on Jan. 4, 2013
Heading there in the am!! Anyone know the thickness of the ice and if its safe to drive on??

by Fellowfisher on Jan. 2, 2013
I'm gonna head out tomorrow. First time back since the summer. Any tips? Seems like a mixed review on whether or not it's safe to drive on yet.

by Walleye on Jan. 1, 2013
Fishing is great, got a couple perch, a whitefish, and two fat 54cm eyes. Drove the truck right on.

by Willow leaf on Dec. 29, 2012
Fishing is very slow last two days. Best luck with walleye in 6' or less right before dark. Overflow in some areas and 10" of ice max thickness.

by Lester on Dec. 19, 2012
The graders have blocked off some of the entries. Moose horn has a heave right at the entry point so without sleds it is difficult together to fishing areas. A foot of snow and floodwater makes it even worse. Hopefully the graders will clear entry onto the ice soon. Good luck if you can get on.

by Fish killer on Dec. 4, 2012
Foot thick in most areas, I wouldn't drive on till jan.

by Gisherman on Dec. 4, 2012
Any ice reports? Good for driving on

by Fish killer on Nov. 30, 2012
Got my limit if perch, walleye, and pike 1 white and 1 burb. I couldn't believe it man. Best fishing I've ever seen. I was throwing jumbo perch and walkeye back like crazy. And whitefish, burb omg!

by Walleyehunter on Oct. 29, 2012
Are you still able to get on this lake or is it frozen over. I put my big boat away but was hoping to take the little tinner out this weekend for one last open water trip this year.

by Walleyehunter on Sep. 27, 2012
Good call on washing the boat, Reef. I think a lot of people underestimate how important this is.

by Reef on Sep. 26, 2012
Was there Sept. 23-24 did not catch any thing again but noticed a lot of the dreaded blue-green algae floating in the water. So I hope no-one eats to much poisoned fish and they wash there boats before jumping in another lake.

by Walleyehunter on Sep. 24, 2012
I was there yesterday. Caught 50 to 60 walleyes. It's encouraging to see that they're looking nice and healthy again, even the under-slot guys are looking good. No big pike anymore, or so it seems, I never caught even one. Here's hoping that this fine fishery is on its way to recovery.

by Reef on Sep. 10, 2012
Went this past sunday nothing nada. Tried all over son had one hit and lost it reeling in.

by Brown on Aug. 21, 2012
Went the last couple days and have tried everything, very slow went from ten feet to twenty jigs, minnows, trolling..... Not to sure what to do. Any hints

by Jake on Aug. 11, 2012
Was there today, fished for nine hours. Tried Volkswagen point with jigs and minnows, and also in front of the main launch. There were 3 of us and we managed 5-6 fish including 2 jack. Definatley not characteristic of calling. Super slow, tried everything.

by Brian on Aug. 8, 2012
Is the lake still full of algae??

by Rhino on Aug. 6, 2012
Caught our limit yesterday...but the fishing was as slow as I've ever seen there. We still probably caught 30-35 fish between 4 of us.

by Smoke on Aug. 3, 2012
Lake is quite green. Didn't stop the big eye. Took about 10 minutes right in front of our house.

by Dickweed on Aug. 2, 2012
Had a few really good days last week alot of nice 5-8 lb walleye

by M8der on Jul. 27, 2012
Fishing has slowed down big time. Spent the last 4 days there and nothing that great. The lake is really green and smells too. The fish aren't very good to eat either taste really slimy

by CLTremblay on Jul. 26, 2012
Thinking of heading up there this saturday, how's the fishing right now? Any good spots? I'm looking to catch a couple of nice eyes. Appreciate any input or feedback. Thanks!

Was there last weekend and fishing was awesome! So many big fish was hard to find small ones in the slot size. Volkswagen point. Get there early to get a site, fills up fast. I'm going back this weekend! Site 63. You can get ice and bait a Katz gas bar, just keep heading north past park and it's on your left about 10 min drive!

by Smoke on Jun. 24, 2012
Poplar fuzz was flying. That's a good sign. We released some really nice walleye. One hit after another. Good fishing and good luck .

by burbotman14 on Jun. 18, 2012
I completely agree with you Smoke. Every time I go up their I pick a spot where the closest person is at least 100-200 yards away. After catching a couple fish, I look around and see three or four boats trolling or anchored quite close to us, many within an easy casting range. There has been several occasions where people see were catching fish so they do a drift in front of us and do not start up the motor or move until they are 10 feet in front of us. A couple times people had trouble starting their motor and we had to push them aside from hitting the front of our boat. I always just chuckle when these things happen but people must realize there are spots everywhere on this lake to catch plenty of fish and if everyone goes out on the lake with respect for one another people will have a better time on the water.

by Smoke on Jun. 18, 2012
Never did I say it's my lake. Just saying if you pull close enough to cast in my boat you should back away a bit. The lake is more than big enough for all fishermen. Show each other a little respect and we can all have fun. But that's how I was raised maybe I'm wrong.

by Masamike on Jun. 18, 2012
Went out on the weekend with some buddys. Lots of pickerel, mostly to small one to big. Kept 3 hard to find ones in the keeping range. Got 1 big pike (40") trolling with green/orange/yellow rapela seemed to work the best.

by Walleyehunter on Jun. 18, 2012
Hey Smoke, I guess people don't realize that you own the lake. Maybe you should wave a banner or get the regulations to state: "it's prohibited to fish within 1km of Smoke." I don't like it when people are on my spots or getting too close either but what can I say, I don't own the lake.

by Smoke on Jun. 17, 2012
Fishing was good. Other fishermen are getting to be a problem . Do you have to get so close ? Do you have to follow my every move. A little respect would be nice!

by Smoke on Jun. 16, 2012
Wind from the south. Should be good to go.

by Badger on Jun. 14, 2012
Lake was really windy keeping fishermen off caught a few no big ones just good shore lunch ones :)

by Pickster on Jun. 12, 2012
What is fishing from shoreline like? Happy fishing!

by Rob on Jun. 11, 2012
Fishing was great, still some skinny fish tho.. Some leisions on a few. Somethin needs to be done about the baitfish issue

by louie on Jun. 10, 2012
what does the boat launch look like this year?

by Swamp on Jun. 3, 2012
Fished for 3 hours on the evening of opening day, caught 16 walleye and 2 pike. Kept 3 walleye and 1 pike. None of the walleye were much more than 5 pounds And most were under the slot size. Both pike were about 70cm. All fish were healthy with no sign of the sores and lesions we were seeing last year. Minnows and leeches worked best. Caught nothing on worms.

by Theoutdorsman on Jun. 3, 2012
Went out on opening day for about 7 hours 2 of us caught 17 fish one 7 lb walleye and lots under sized. Only 2 jacks was hard to fish wind was bad.

by Schnidy on Jun. 2, 2012
Was out there today, 4 of us got 4 keepers guy beside us got a 13 lb jack that was fun to watch since he was by himself!

by Dean on Jun. 2, 2012
Went out opening day between myself and my buddy got 16 walleye and about 20 pike , we kept 3 walleye between us 54cm, 52cm and 46 cm . The rest were over and under limit size . There were about 15 to 20 boats around and it looked like there were all getting fish . We were fishing from noon to about 1900 hrs . Overall it wasn't great but it wasn't bad ! Weather was good , but wind plays a big factor on a day of fishing on this lake , if you plan on going here , be sure to check the weather .

by Cjrm99 on May. 22, 2012
When calling is one of two or three lakes in Alberta where you can keep more than one walleye the population is going to struggle. When one fish was the limit the lake was dead on any given day, now you go out on a Tuesday in october and it's a parking lot. With limits higher at calling than anywhere else, of course it's going to be a zoo. The meat hunters don't care about the numbers. They just want there two fish per day (sometimes three or four if they know they can get away with it) fisherman are greedy. They don't regulate the lake themselves, they rely on the govt. and we all see how good of a job they're doing to protect it.

by Reels on May. 15, 2012
The problem isn't the fisherman,it's how the government manages the lakes and how we are forced to fish them.as far as I'm concerned the tag system is bull(a money racket).if the 90%of our walleye lakes are so called collapsed why aren't they stocking them. Last time I checked the gov't was bragging that we were the richest province, maybe they should spend some money on our fishing resources!does anyone no were the money from the tag system goes anyway because it doesn't seem like its helping our fishing privileges!its only getting worse when I have to buy 2 lisences to keep 2 extra fish! My solution is open every lake for 1 walleye,it will stop over pressuring singled out lakes!!!!!

by Aussie on May. 14, 2012
Anyone know if ice will be gone by may long weekend

by Warriorbrad on May. 3, 2012
Up yours knows what is precisely happening to Calling. I was out last summer with a group of friends . We caught over 60 fish , most if them walleye . Only a couple of jacks were caught. I'm not sure how the perch population is there but I haven't heard any good reports from Calling. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Calling lake just inexperienced fisherman. And ding king did you mean anchor unless you know what ankerite is

by longhair on May. 3, 2012
check out this link to see how much damage netting is doing to our lakes: http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.outdoorsmenforum.ca%2Fshowthread.php%3Ft%3D56280&h=qAQEPXYc6

by longhair on May. 3, 2012
netting of our bigger lakes is what is killing our lakes not the average angler. we all need to contact fish and game and our so called elected government officials and tell them to stop ALL NETTING of fish from our lakes!!!!!!!!! all my years of fishing and ive never kept the amount of fish that are raped from our lakes from one net !!!!!

by Todd Mattoga on May. 3, 2012
I absolutely agree with ling king calling lake is in serious trouble. If we don't do something soon it may never come back, Iam so worried . Please leave my lake alone city folk!!

by Ling king on May. 3, 2012
They need to increase the quota on whites and have tags for walleye. Its getting over run by white fish and tools like Warriorbrad are ruining any chance for walleye to survive. P.S the only thing warrior boats are good for is ankers!!!

by Up Yours on May. 3, 2012
The other problem I see is when you have a rapid population explosion of predatory species like Walleye in a rather small body of water like Calling or Pigeon is that they eat themselves out of house and home. I think that's why they introduced tags for Pigeon and increased the limit on Calling. You can blame other fisherman for the demise of the lake if you want but fact is the Perch are gone and you don't see the schools of minnows on sonar anymore either. Guess what? When the forage base is decimated its only a matter of time before the fishing sucks.

by Warriorbrad on May. 2, 2012
Here is how it works for all the rednecks. Government deregulates fishing on a particular lake. So the anglers move to a lake where they can keep fish , duh. Fishing pressure moves . But for people who live close to that lake they can and do keep 3 walleye everytime they go out. Say 3 times a week for someone who has time. Maybe the evening, after work. 9 walleye per week for the guy who lives close. But what about the extra pressure from all the others. It adds up , maybe if the guys who live close to calling would drive 2 hours north like I do to get to Calling there would be balance . Here's the verdict , the government is ruining Calling. My best choice for walleye fishing is Calling and I live in Edmonton . Ps I'm legally allowed 9 per day .

by Ling king on May. 2, 2012
Ya I agree with Rubicon too many city folk ruining that lake, they should stay on pigeon

by Warriorbrad on Apr. 30, 2012
Hey rubicon before you flap your gums , get the facts! How many anglers per lake in alberta versus saskachewan ? We are about 30 more per lake than them . And ( yes there's more) , if I lived 30km from Calling I would fish alot more than a person who is 230 KM away . So what is more harmful to a lake ?

by Fisherman on Apr. 30, 2012
Is the ice off of the lake yet?

by Yo mama on Apr. 30, 2012
Or is it the country folk who think the lake is theirs

by Rubicon on Apr. 28, 2012
To many city folk poaching this lake. Absolutly was better 3+ years ago! If only we new how to manage like saskatchewan?!!

by pike on Feb. 12, 2012
Just left calling lake very slow , not going back till summer lots of ice though

by Newb on Feb. 5, 2012
Fished from 9-5 Feb. 4. 2' of ice, had to drive on from the town side (ice heaves were tall near the boat launches). Only caught one small pike and one keeper walleye. No bites all day. Caught the pile and walleye close to shore in ~6-8' of water. No action with tipups or rods in deeper waters.

by Fuknuts on Feb. 1, 2012

A little birdie told me they're opening up the whole lake for next season.

by Smoke on Oct. 22, 2011
No harm no foul. I do have an 11 pounder mounted from before the slot. Maybe the amount of boats and lack of washing facilities are causing unwanted algae? My apologies if I offended. I love this place.

by Point taken on Oct. 20, 2011

by Walleyehunter on Oct. 17, 2011
All I'm trying to say, without becoming confrontational, is that when I catch a 75cm walleye that's only 3lbs., to me that's reason for concern!!! No??

by Walleyehunter on Oct. 17, 2011
I was there on the 9th and got 116. The biggest was maybe 7lbs. Smoke, when I say big fish I mean 7-10lbs. You can't deny the fish were bigger 3 years ago.

by Smoke on Oct. 15, 2011
Learn how the big eye hit!! If you can't figure it it out go home. I live here and it's not hard to catch big fish!

by Fishindoc on Oct. 7, 2011
Was out Monday Oct. 3. Cold windy and foggy. Caught 1 walleye 54 cm and 2 small pike late in day on chartreuse jigs.

by Walleyehunter on Oct. 2, 2011
3yrs ago we could catch 5 to 7 pounders here all summer with a legit chance at a 10+. I hope it comes back. Still one hell of a walleye lake.

by Walleyehunter on Oct. 2, 2011
Just my opinion: too many walleyes in this lake. There's not enough forage to support them all. All the fish look like supermodels this year.

by Smoke on Sep. 24, 2011
Lake is clear and the big eye is hitting. I've been out fished by my six year old. Next generation looks good.
