Ice report anyone?

by blairroy on Aug. 5, 2020
How did the lake look for blue green algae ??

by TashDawn on Aug. 4, 2020
AUG 2020, you can catch 50 fish at Sturgeon Lake AB but all of them will be too small, you won't be able to keep any. The fishing regulations are far too strict, you can only keep a walleye 45-50 cm and everything else must be released. I swear, this lake must have been recently stocked with small fish and all the keepables have been fished out. You can keep perch but you can only catch them in the winter. I never heard of anybody catching a burbot at sturgeon, perhaps another winter fish? Walleye and Pike are the only ones I've seen in this lake and you can't keep Pike. Frustrating lake if you want to keep a fish but fine if you're a sport fisherman.

Ice Report: 10 in
Off Boyd’s.
by AlbaDog86 on Dec. 2, 2018
Also what’s with 0 limit of northern and white fish? Just surprising. Have never seen or caught a white in this lake. Have caught countless northern, never big enough to keep, have always thrown back. Whites seem most surprising as most lakes including snipe still have a limit of 10 or more. Why a limit of 0 whites in sturgeon? Not complaining just curious.

by AlbaDog86 on Dec. 2, 2018
Anyone checked ice depth yet? Heard it was 3 inches off shore from a local already, hoping to check myself next weekend.

by deanhudson10 on Aug. 15, 2018
We went out to the lake and we couldn't seem to catch a legal sized walleye- we caught 12 fish just out from williamsons dock by the little shack down the lake in about 14 feet of water

I'm the jeep out here lol. Lots of trucks on the lake today. Couple people getting stuck but the main path is getting nice and packed down
by Plumbers on Feb. 19, 2018
Went out on Friday and fished off Young's point. Loads of snow. Snow shoed on and pulled a sled. Only one Jeep made it on the ice. Fished about 12 feet deep and had loads off bites. Even came home with a 51 cm walleye. Did best with just a jig head and minnow.

by AlbaDog86 on Feb. 14, 2018
Was getting stuck with my Jeep on Sunday, had to follow tracks around. Lots of snow.

by Kcward on Feb. 11, 2018
Tweedsider, was out Feb 10 and there were a few trucks on the ice. Drove out to the islands but was pulling fairly hard. Driving a Dodge 2500.

Lots of ice, not so many fish

by zalman on Jan. 6, 2018
21 inches of ice out from Young's point. Big heave in the ice by the launch that you can go around and some pressure cracks. Quite a few pickups out on the ice. Fishing was slow. Only saw 4 on the finder all day in 16 feet of water. Caught none. Guy's beside us caught a 10" pike. I think the sunken islands would have been a better choice.
by Lucashh on Jan. 6, 2018

by BigBlueWarrior on Dec. 20, 2017
Punched a hole in front of my place in the narrows last Saturday. 12" of ice. There is no snow at all on the lake, so it doesn't take much to make more ice.

by Young_fishing_fam on Dec. 17, 2017

How's the ice look for the weekend?

by AlbaDog86 on Nov. 23, 2017
Checked the ice on Nov. 18,2017. 5 inches. Noticed a dark area north of young's point. Looking to head north of young's point along the shore, decided not to due to dark area. Any ice updates would be appreciated.

by BigBlueWarrior on Nov. 21, 2017
Fished the narrows and main lake on Saturday. 7 inches of good ice. Really good fishing at sunset.

by SturgeonWalleyeSlayer on Nov. 13, 2017
lake is completely iced over for the past 10 days......Obviously not that thick yet but should be getting thicker by the day.

by Can-Am on Nov. 13, 2017
Has anyone been out there to see if there is ice yet?

by -DorgonFly- on Aug. 23, 2017
This lake is great if your in a boat or on the ice, locating walleye and structure is key so if your looking for the lunker walleye do your research on water temp and get a navionics app to show you where the holes are before you even put a hook in. That being said check the south end of this lake had a lot of luck there are 3 - 20 foot holes and I have a lot of luck with larger fish on the bridges between the holes.

by deanhudson10 on May. 29, 2017
We fished over my the Church - in 6-10 feet of water -The walleye are biting - The water level is high. They seemed to like the White double tail jigs and reeling slow off the bottom and the jacks are ravenous

by SturgeonWalleyeSlayer on May. 11, 2017
We fished sturgeon on May 6 80% open and with the wind we have had it should be wide open. Shawners did you catch any Walleye this past weekend?

by Blanetrain on May. 9, 2017
LAKE IS GOOD TO BOAT. been all over lake today and I see no ice. Cheers

by stanthefisherman on May. 6, 2017
The wind last night laid a beatdown on the ice. Open from youngs point right across to Williamson.

by zalman on May. 5, 2017
Put my 20' fiberglass boat in at Young's Point today. 1 dock is in already. Lake is still not open but there was enough room to idle along the shore line with my kicker in 5-8 feet of water and catch a pike.

by NorthernYaker on May. 5, 2017
Not getting a boat in there for at least a week or 2

by Wellcraft on May. 5, 2017

by BB on Apr. 17, 2017

by Mobyrichard on Mar. 31, 2017
Fished Youngs Point March 31 from 12:00 to about 3. Was slow......people were driving on the ice. It was anywhere from 18 inches to 24 inches thick. Shore was not slushy at all but it will be after the weekend.

by Fishergirl82 on Feb. 10, 2017
Unsporting!? Really! I have new people out with me almost every time I go out fishing. This is just regarding the guys that are out there just watching and following us if they want to learn fine walk up to us and ask. don't drive through our rods and park beside us to talk to us. We never turn down anyone that wants to learn. Just need to ask.

by jdmwapiti on Feb. 8, 2017
fishergirl8 that is very unsporting of you I think, there are a lot of people just learning and very new to ice fishing , I thought this app was to help not slap people out???

by Fishergirl82 on Feb. 6, 2017
We went all over, out at the humps for a bit caught nice big jacks out there no walleye the time we went there. over by the mission for a bit big jacks there too. at the weed bed. Some smaller walleye there. We just keep moving till we find that good walleye spot!

by SturgeonWalleyeSlayer on Feb. 5, 2017
where were you at on Sturgeon Fishergirl?

by Fishergirl82 on Jan. 31, 2017
It's been great fishing moved around a bit to find a good spot. Gotta say though all those people that watch you catch fish then move not even 20ft away from you to catch fish makes me so mad. (I would use other words but kids use this) What ever happened to being happy that people are catching fish give them space and try to find your own. It's just rude. Next time It happens to us again we will not just sit back, we will say something. Spend the time like us and find your spot that's what fishing is about.

by jiggerjoe on Jan. 25, 2017

Ice anywhere from 12 to 20 inches.....lots of heaves and cracks. I didn't drive my truck on but I could have because others did. A couple of 3/4 tons were driving all around 20 feet apart so ice is good. Fishing was so so.

by FisherGirl86 on Jul. 18, 2016
Great fishin yesterday 4 keepers right from the dock.

by Mooseman166 on Jul. 14, 2016
I usually drive from gp to Williamson every couple weeks or so and fish from the docks. Yesterday they were so covered in goose and gull crap, I couldn't even set foot on the one. Just a heads up.

by Cb4ever on Jun. 13, 2016
couldn't keep the walleye off spent more time taking them off hooks then jigging real good size ones for sturgon as well.

by Chip on Jun. 6, 2016
Walleye are biting like crazy!!

by zalman on May. 5, 2016
Fishing has been great. We caught (and released) 3 walleye over 50 cm (biggest was 55cm and 2.6 lbs) and kept one that was 45cm. A few pike too, but I don't count those. Cought them in 10-13 feet of water.

by Bucksman on May. 2, 2016
Fishings great right now, only one pike the rest walleyes, 6 keepers all back in the water for someone else(had to put the phone down, caught a small walleye) lake is glass

by Blanetrain on May. 2, 2016
I was out on Sunday afternoon and caught 3 pike and a walleye. 2 were big enough to keep but released them. Was mostly on east end of lake and had best luck with 5 diamond spoon

by Hayze17 on May. 2, 2016
Was out on Thursday and caught 12 pike and a couple walleye around the weed bed at the start of the narrows. Fire tiger spoon colours worked great in the murky/tanned coloured water

by zalman on Apr. 29, 2016
The docks are in at Young's Point. They put them in on Thursday. Fishing was slow that day so I tried out a different prop and did some sonar log mapping of the drop offs and sunken islands.

by Giantkiller on Apr. 18, 2016
The lake is boatable.. There was a few boats out on the lake today.

by zalman on Apr. 17, 2016
The lake is not boatable yet. There was one guy out in a zodiac breaking up some ice and putting around by the launch at Young's Point. The ice is significantly thinner and there is more open water than when I checked two days ago. I'll be heading to the lake Wednesday after work with my boat. I'll post a lake status update again then.

by Chip on Apr. 17, 2016
Was at the lake yesterday at least a week to go before its boat ready at least!

by Kcward on Apr. 12, 2016
Hopefully you are right...let us know how it turns out!
by zalman on Apr. 12, 2016
I hope it won't be that long. Last year when the ice was to the point it is at now, 5 days later the lake was 95% clear and boats were on the water. April 19 it was open if I'm not mistaken. I'm going to head there this weekend and I'm bringing the new Ranger. Hopefully I can get on the water!

by Kcward on Apr. 11, 2016
Thanks, probably 10 days to 2 weeks.
by Cb4ever on Apr. 11, 2016
it'll be a bit left yet still over a foot of ice

by Kcward on Apr. 10, 2016
Excellent day...how long do you think before boats can hit the water?

by Cb4ever on Apr. 10, 2016
19 pike and a couple nice walleye at youngs. another week at most left for ice
by Chip on Apr. 5, 2016
Went out on the second at youngs. Great start to the day two really nice jack one broke off at the hole, and I got a 17inch walley around noon. Then at 7 pm got a few more Jack and a really nice 4.5lb walleye biggest I've caught in this lake, ice is deteriorating.

by Mobyrichard on Mar. 26, 2016
Great day of fishing yesterday. Ice was beginning to deteriorate around the dock at the end of the day. New snowfall is insulating the ice and making it slushy. Personally, I would be careful driving on now as it surprised me how quickly it deteriorated. I would probably walk or quad/snowmobile.
by jiggerjoe on Mar. 24, 2016
Fished the humps caught 18 pike, sturgeon has been great this year. Where can I fish for perch? Cosy cove?

by Mobyrichard on Mar. 23, 2016

by mfluder on Mar. 14, 2016
Fished for two days on the weekend. Very slow. 20 fish caught. 17 Jack, (0 over 4lbs) 3 Walleye. Nice Walleye though. Couple 3lb fish. Nothing near Sandy, caught all our fish over by Youngs Point. Ice still over 20" thick. No Perch or Ling seen either. If you know a good Perch spot, let us know!

Chartreuse and pink jig heads with a small minnow right off the bottom! I found chartreuse hit better. Saw a guy land a nice 4lb walleye we caught mostly small ones around the island and point at youngs. Inches from bottom tight lines to all!!

by Kcward on Feb. 3, 2016
Good to hear Chip...lots of small walleye this year. We have caught a few in the 48-52cm range, but lots of smaller ones. Haven't hit it like that yet, but maybe this weekend. We have been fishing at the islands mostly, but must move around.

by Chip on Feb. 3, 2016
Fishing was great hit a few jacks from around 8:00am to 11:00am then after a quick lunch moved spots and couldn't keep them off over 30 fish in total 20 walley at least awesome!!!!!

We were catching walleye off Youngs point at 22 feet depth- pink jigheads with a purple single tail and a minnow. 18 walleye and 3 jacks - Love my boat beats fishing off the dock- haha

by UGotDaPinkEye on Aug. 15, 2015
I use to fish this lake 3-4 times a week about 6 years ago, 75-100 fish a night was a pretty standard, every fish went back! I went back with the family hoping for the same experience.... I was definetly disappointed. Fishing was brutally slow and the fish were tiny. Landed 5 Walleye all around 1lb and a tiny hammer handle. Hope it was just this trip and not a accurate representation of how the lake is now...

by Bucksman on Jun. 4, 2015

by Kcward on Feb. 16, 2015

Out on Feb 15 at Young's Point. Caught 7 pike and 1 walleye. largest pike was 63cm and the walleye was 52cm. Walleye was out in about 20' of water. 18" of ice where I drilled. Very easy to get around the lake.

by iFish Guest on Jan. 15, 2015
Ice Report: 24 in
lots of water on ice under snow in places

by Kcward on Jan. 11, 2015
I was out on the lake today and Walleye-guy I see what you mean...was only 14" of ice and tons of snow on top. I drive a lifted F350 and I was up to the running boards. Lots of people getting stuck (including me) but everyone got out. It looks like we might be looking at using the sled & skimmer. Darn, I much prefer driving on. Fishing was really slow on youngs point, caught a couple of walleye that were under size by a little, and a couple of small to average pike. Fish all looked healthy. Might take the snowblower next time :)
by iFish Guest on Jan. 9, 2015
Does anybody know its good for long cod (burbot) in this lake? And what to use for bait?

by Walleye-guy on Jan. 6, 2015
When I measured I was fishing in 22 fow maybe ice is a bit thinner there didn't measure close to shore

by Kcward on Jan. 6, 2015

Hey guys just hit the narrows yesterday the ice sucks its plenty thick for walking on but there is a lot of flood water in spots and were its frozen you get 2" of ice 6" of water then about 10 " of ice again wish I had a sled cause we won't be driving out anytime soon. Anyway fished from sun up till sun down it was cold so I just picked a spot and set up camp didn't move around at all and I was fishing about 8' of water unfortunately no perch or walley but more northerns than you could shake a stick at probably caught around 40 all small though nothing over 3.5 pounds but a lot of fun to catch and I got a say I picked up a flasher / sonar and wow what a difference that made cant believe I didn't buy one sooner that thing helped me catch a lot of fish lol

Fished Sturgoen on Sunday with my son and a friend of his ! Had a great day ! Caught quite a few walleye and went home with some nice size keepers ! The largest was 49 1/2 cm ! Nice table fair ! Fall fish'n.... What can I say !!

by Nanook17 on Aug. 28, 2012
I was back at Sturgoen on Sunday to complete my engine breakin ! We decided to stop and do some fishing and the water temp has dropped 6-8 degrees F since last Sunday ! Fishing was good ! My son landed an 86cm pike and we managed to catch several walleye over 44cm ! Fun day to say the least !

by Nanook17 on Aug. 23, 2012
As I agree that we should be reporting fishing violations to help sustain our fish populations it makes me frustrated that the government still allows commercial fishing on these lakes ! Poor management also plays a major role on the vitality of our diminishing populations ! If it doesn't change soon I'm afraid that we're going to lose the precious privilege of angling on some of these busy lakes !

by Curt j on Aug. 23, 2012
Red rubber dingy did you do any thing about the poaching you saw?? Call it in??If you did glad to hear and good on you!! If not your just as bad as the poachers and just as responsible for the poor fish populations ,zero limits & undersized fish. It's disgusting too hear stories like yours. It's our job to try and possibly save the fishery in this province for our children.

by Nanook17 on Aug. 21, 2012
Went out sat & sun to break in new motor ! Stopped to fish briefly and caught a few fish ! Nice keeper walleye but let them go ! More worried about putting time on my engine ! Will be back when the water temp starts to drop though !!

by Red Rubber Dingy on Aug. 14, 2012
Mostly small just legal fish still lots of fun, seen a bunch of people keeping undersized and way more than possession limit(very sad to see)

by Reed55 on Jul. 27, 2012
How is the fishing at young's point

by Heinzer on Jul. 17, 2012
Lake is a little green but the narrows are super nice and great fishing. Catch lots of walleye and perch.
by Heinzer on Jul. 17, 2012
Good walleye spot. Anchor 10 to 14 feet. Cast jigs and drag along bottom. Or throw jig head over with worm or leach just of bottom.

by Rhyno on Jul. 4, 2012
There isn't much for size, more by fluke than anything else, you'll get some keepers but the big ones are few and far. Heavily fished lake.

by Walleye loverboy on Jul. 3, 2012
Where do you find the big walleye ,got some small ones.

by Ryan on May. 30, 2012
Great walleye fishing on Sunday in the narrows. White jigs with white grubs

by Way2sure on May. 21, 2012
Good pike action all day in the bay. 2 to 4 feet with silver or gold spoons. Largest was 106cc. Couple legal walleye in there too!!!

by Bigjay on Feb. 6, 2012
Hey brown_fisherman, i believe there still getting on at the boat launch at sandy bay. You can get there by turning off the hwy at the reserve store and following the road through the reserve until you see the sandy bay sign. Head north for about 15 mins and you'll find it!!!

by 7brent on Feb. 2, 2012
Hows the fishing out there so far this winter ????

by Brown_fisherman on Feb. 1, 2012
Hows everyone getting to the east side of the lake with their vehicles. Huge ice berm running north to south blocking all access points. Seen trucks out there on the far side of the berm, just dont know how they got there.

by Kodered on Jan. 4, 2012
Went late in the afternoon caught lots of small walleye and a couple big ones. Ice is ok getting soft but a good 14 inches.

by Walleye chaser on Jan. 4, 2012
Fishing very slow. Out on the lake at youngs point ice is foot thick but very soft. To the right of the boat launch there is a four inch wide crack in the ice that spans two hundred yard from shore out wards With open water. Ice is only three inches thick at the opening. Don't recommend driving on the ice

by Kodered on Dec. 27, 2011
Fishing was extremely slow, a few white fish caught. Ice was around 13-15 inches. People were driving 1/2 ton out at youngs point. We just walked out 100 or so yards

by Fishing buddy on Dec. 23, 2011
Anyone been out yet ?? What are ice conditions like ?? How is fishing ?? Any perch caught ??
by Derekvig on Oct. 18, 2011
Clearing in a corner, near an old dock. Come in quietly, use anything shiny but a Bladed spinnerbait works best.

Never a lake with bug walleye as it is heavily fished but not to worry that lake as far as population is concerned is very well managed if nit one if the best managed waterbodies in the privince

by Let'emgo on Sep. 7, 2011
Spent the last 5 days at the lake. Walleye were active most of the day. Mostly just legal size (45 to 51 cc). Kind of worried that the small fish were not plentiful. Couple pike a day biggest was 106 cc. No perch. 16 to 18 feet of water. Mission was the hottest spot, it was also the greenest part of the lake. Beef heart cut in leech size strips worked the best. Have fun but let'em go so they can grow.

by Salmontracker on Aug. 30, 2011
Good walleye action yesterday jig tipped with a worm. Deep 17-22 ft lots of action

by Ty on Jul. 22, 2011
I have caught 2 perch this year, one was 1/2 lb other was 1lb on leeches massive I tell ya :-) just to the right off of youngs point boat launch

How is the lake and the fishing after all the rain?

by Fishbuddy on Jul. 9, 2011
Has anyone had any luck with Perch in the summer ?? What part of the lake ??? Heard stories that there are big ones in here ?? But have never caught any or seen anyone else catch any in the last 7 years I have fished here??? Walleye and Pike have been good!! Will give it a try for the next week !! If the rain ever quits ???

by Bigjay on Jul. 2, 2011
Spent the last week out at youngs point, camp sites are great, water is pretty clean, great swimming, fishing is very poor, fished all around youngs and from williamson to the cabins, caught 1 44cm walleye the rest were from 30 to 42cms, jack were only about 2lbs, probably 40 - 50 boats out with same luck

by Bigjay on Jun. 10, 2011
Hows the walleye, legal size?

by Tyson on Jun. 3, 2011
Went out may 31 caught 15 fish. 10 walleye and 5 jack.

by Brennan on May. 29, 2011
For the people saying it's slow you need to change your lures. Double white tail jig and 5 of diamonds spoon. Couldent keep them off our line. Just pike and walleye.

by BBB on May. 25, 2011
Out on 24th. 2 nice jacks & 3 walleye in 4 hours.

by Bigfin43 on May. 21, 2011
Fished all day close to young's point boat launch with little action. Finally caught a small jack after trolling close to secondary dock. Otherwise it was a no action day.

by Rhyno on Mar. 4, 2011

by Jared on Mar. 3, 2011
Ice fished there last weekend and going again Saturday, having trouble finding fish from Youngs Point. Any advice?

by Rhyno on Feb. 28, 2011
Was out Saturday afternoon, Fishin fairly slow still, 6 pike, none legal, 1 20" walleye.

by Rhyno on Feb. 25, 2011
Do any of you know if there is road access to goose lake near sturgeon, or can sat what the accessibility is and what the fishing us like??

by JTMaki on Feb. 18, 2011
Great lake, fishing is Average to Great perch are hard to catch but big, walleye and pike plentiful and size is coming back. Fish there every year never caught a diseased or tumor ridden fish!?!?

by Rhyno on Feb. 4, 2011
Hilarious bigjay, i have fished there my whole life and the fishing is always good not to big but have never seen nor caught one fish with sores and toulouse over the last 25 years, and it's not uncommon to catch 100 walleye in a day, many not legal yes, but always manage a good feed, with the next best option being snipe I would take sturgeon anyway over that muddy slogh shark ridden swamp

by Bigjay on Jan. 29, 2011
Not a lake to fish, i have fished this lake my whole life and have watched it turn into a diseased swamp. The pike are small, some with sores around the mouth. The walleye are not even legal size and full of tumors. And i haven't seen a perch in three years. Don't believe what people tell you, the fishing is terrible all year round and the water stinks in the summer. The campsites are nice though! Find another lake to fish!!!!!

by Rhyno on Jan. 17, 2011
Best walleye lake in valleyveiw area, good pike and perch fishing as well. Fish are not very large but plentiful. Excellent camp sites and facilities, great family camping spot.
