by Rictic393 on Mar. 5, 2018
Can't drive very far on ice. Too much snow. Trucks kept getting stuck. Bring shovels if trying to venture out onto ice. No fish in 6 hours Sunday. 4 other trucks in boat launch area. Didn't see anybody catch fish all day. Fish cops out on sleds checking for licences and Sunday beer drinkers.

by Slavelakeslayer on Mar. 3, 2018

Is the ice at Carson lake walkable yet ???

by Captain Jack on Sep. 9, 2017
Best to troll really slow. Use Ford fender (flasher) and trail about 4 feet of 4 lb line. Attach a spinner with a single small trout hook. Add a real trout worm. You should be on trout right off the boat launch.

by black kid on Sep. 4, 2017
anyone can share how your catch at Carson for rainbow?

by Mikejulien12 on Jul. 29, 2017
Sorry my bad i didn't see you wrote bait fish.

by Mikejulien12 on Jul. 29, 2017
Cajed1 might want to take another look at the regs there bud it says specifically that bait is allowed at Carson....

by Cajed1 on Jul. 28, 2017
That's actually Pegasus lake or Little McLeod lake. Also on IFish. Carson or McLeod has no pike.
by iFish Guest on Jul. 12, 2017
Hey guys just want to let everyone know those suckers are good to eat nice white meat take guts out of them throwem on fire and dig in

by Cajed1 on Jul. 12, 2017
So you were fishing illegally?? The use of bait fish is prohibited in ES3 zone except at the following lakes.... Fishing with bait in lakes is allowed at lakes without Bait Bans under %u201CLake and Stream Listings%u201D, or at general stocked trout waters listed here. Fishing with Bait Fish is NOT allowed in ES3 except at the following waters: Bear Lake Bigfour Lake Blue Lake Cache Lake Chip Lake Fickle Lake Graveyard Lake Gregg Lake Horseshoe Lake Jarvis Lake Long Lake Minnow Lake Shiningbank Lake Tiecamp Lake Wolf Lake ES3 Site-Specific Regulations The names of most lakes and major streams appear alphabetically under %u201CES3 Lake and Stream Listings.%u201D Smaller streams often are not listed, but may be included in regulations as tributaries to lakes or larger streams. LAKES A. For Trout-Stocked Lakes, Reservoirs and Ponds in ES3 that are named under %u201CAlberta's Fish Stocking Program.%u201D Open all year %u2013 Trout limit 5; bait, except bait fish, allowed. All other game fish species limit 0. Read the Regs people.

by Connor2002 on Jun. 30, 2017
Anybody no the top bait out there lately

by Riverbear on Jun. 3, 2017
Wow
by Travis Z on Jun. 2, 2017
I've been fishing Carson for 8 years and only last year I caught 2 suckers all year and this year caught eight and watched 12 more being caught beside me.There's obviously too many of them and needs to be thinned out some. The fishing wildlife officer was telling people to kill'em and throw away. That would explain why I seen a few in the garbage where I was fishing.

by BiggieB on Jun. 1, 2017
Travis z....dude why would you kill suckers for no reason those are native to almost all alberta water bodies...though they are not a game fish and are classified as a bait fish....they are not an invasive species sir and they actually eat alot of the algae and sediment in the lakes (bottom feeding fish) where as the trout in here are stocked, and cannot reproduce in this lake...please be careful i know you are only trying to help but please research before taking action :(

by Cajed1 on May. 31, 2017
The trout are actually the invasive species here, not native and stocked. Suckers have always been in this lake, well befor stocking of trout. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean they don't have a valuable place in the ecosystem. Do some research on the subject you might surprise yourself.
by Travis Z on May. 31, 2017
Caught 2 trout and 8 suckers!! Kill'em and throw them away. They should have some signs out as they're an invasive speci to the lake....

by Stryker63 on May. 20, 2017
long weekend and lots of people; most on shore fishing with about 15 boats out; worms were the trick for me today but fish were not aggressive. Lots of bait thieves. Kept 2 nice ones

by pikeslayer512 on May. 16, 2017
Yay! Good to know, heading out this long weekend. Got me all excited now! Thanks for the info!

by fishfanatic88 on May. 15, 2017
Well went there Sunday May 14. Open water caught my limit and left. Action all day

by mrfishes on May. 9, 2017
On May 6th there was about 1/2 a foot of free water around the edge, lots of cracks in the ice and and water/rain dimpling. Still looked quite thick (you could stand on it with minor movement).

by fishfanatic88 on May. 8, 2017
Was it at least rotting? I really want to go sunday

by NorthernYaker on May. 8, 2017
Completely covered this weekend

by David 1 on Mar. 28, 2017
Ion has great customer service

by David 1 on Mar. 26, 2017
Have an ion 8" auger ,was at Carson lake the 25th of march drilling holes put it in reverse and the auger bit let go and went to the bottom of the lake .Has anyone ever had this problem with the auger using the quick release ?

by Lettuce boi on Mar. 12, 2017
This lake is awesome went here last year in August....Use a slip sinker rig with a five foot leader from about the middle of all the benches with pink or red floating power eggs and a white marshmallo and your golden! Bye the way there is a run at about 8am and 6 or 7pm
by Nelutu_m1980 on Feb. 20, 2017
Ice Report: 3 ft
You can drive easy on the lake

by Gerrybk on Feb. 16, 2017
was at the lake yesterday, we needed the extension for the auger. Caught 9 released the smaller one's. The bigger one's were about 1 1/2lbs. fishing in 21 feet of water
by imafishn on Jan. 16, 2017
Ice Report: 18 in

by Gerrybk on Jan. 13, 2017
I believe it. I saw one caught last year, weighted on a digital scale at 5.3 lbs.

by David 1 on Jan. 6, 2017
I believe the size of fish was caught there

by Dragless on Jan. 5, 2017
Yea I highly doubt that a 5lb was caught here either its a huge exaggeration or bull

by Cujo3931 on Jan. 1, 2017
Or take a pic and let it go to swim another day that's the classy thing to do with a 5lb

by David 1 on Jan. 1, 2017
When you caught a fish that size you have to prove it with a fish hanging from a scale or it's just another fish tale .

by Rudolf on Dec. 28, 2016

by Fishergirls on Jun. 7, 2016
Did well trolling all over the lake. Most of the bigger fish (10 in. ) we pulled up were diseased, had large red raised lesions on their bodies.

by Lilboo on Jun. 5, 2016

by Woolly7 on Mar. 5, 2016
Very slow day fishing. Tried east and west sides of the lake.

by woo on Mar. 3, 2016
I was there on the weekend fishing was good 6 inches off bottom 8 feet of water also fished right on bottom in 4 feet caught over 15 in 3 hours_

by Dragless on Mar. 3, 2016
Yea that lake is stratified right now the layer closest to the ice has the most dissolved oxygen there's no aerator here or springs to oxygenate the water so the fish are literally forced into the part of the lake with oxygen I think the larger the fish is the more they are affected
by WonderY on Mar. 3, 2016
They are closer up to top probably for air. Near end of season oxygen is getting low under the ice. Most smaller lakes get winter kill like that. Just my guess though 😆

by Yakfisher on Mar. 2, 2016
draglass i just see now u said they 4 feet under ice to do you know why that is? few weeks ago i was hamering them on the botom and no luck yesterday so played around bringing the hook at diferent depths and they hit way up high

by Jimmy Jigger on May. 8, 2015
Great thanks for the heads up

by Leinad on May. 1, 2015
As far as I know there is no boat size restriction only the speed limit. Just be respectful this lake gets very busy on weekends with all sorts of things on the water

by Jimmy Jigger on Apr. 30, 2015
Hi everyone. I was wondering if there was any restrictions on boat size at Carson. I checked the provincial website and the only info I saw was the 12 km/h speed resriction and it mentions small boats. If anyone could share some info on this, it would be appreciated. Thanks!

by Fishing1012 on Apr. 25, 2015
Lol . Nice. Does anyone know how much is the boat rental there

by WJK on Apr. 25, 2015
Thanks for your help Leinad, will keep a look out for your sea wall monster :)

by Leinad on Apr. 25, 2015
Very dangerous to take a boat on Carson....there's a Monster living in the sea wall....!!!!! Lol

by WJK on Apr. 25, 2015
Sounds like an extremely quick melt, does anyone know if it would be safe to take a boat on the lake?

by Fishing1012 on Apr. 24, 2015

Great day on family day at Carson. Two of us caught 30 rainbows. Lots of small ones but we kept 4 each. Used raw shrimp on small grub hooks. Fished in 20 feet of water. Could see lots of fish near bottom when we were in our tent

by RAK on Jan. 28, 2015

by fwmmeister on Jan. 27, 2015
Almost filled my pants too, when I read WJK's report, have been on the lake all day on Saturday.... Pretty good biting from 8:30 to 9:30 then kinda slow all day. Dad limited out, kids had a blast and enough fish for the supper.... I find the fish is smaller than the last year.... Used plain hook with two maggots and a bobber.... Good luck and tight lines, we'll be back...

by Freddy27 on Jan. 26, 2015
Has anyone been to the lake near Carson? If so how was the whitefish fishing?

by WJK on Jan. 26, 2015
Freddy, I'm glad all worked out safe as well. Parking in front of the sea wall after that was a relief. I guess the rain and warmth has softened up areas where no one travels. Good to hear you got a couple fish (two more than I did) :)

Was there yesterday and vehicle fell through snow ice on far side and was sitting in 12" of water. Thankfully my vehicle was held up by about 8" of ice underneath. The Northern side is not safe for travel.

Anyone know how much good ice is on the lake and how 's the fishing so far?

by Pikster on Aug. 9, 2014
To jeffjohnstone, I have posted similar comments in Pp2 zone ponds, in one incident an individual was busted with 90 small rainbows in his pail 3 days after fish were released into a local pond. Too many poachers who don't respect rules who are more selfish to fill their freezers. Carson is a gem in this province. I sure hope it doesn't fall victim like most other bodies of water.

by pwned555 on Aug. 5, 2014
Great fishing, used a fly rod with sinking line and a black woolly bugger with a split shot. Landed 20 fish and must have had at least 40 other bites.

by Elk slayer on Jul. 20, 2014
Great fishing the last 2 days. Sink line with a fly.
by vwrules57 on Jul. 13, 2014
Great sea wall fishing. Get here by 10am or it's pretty packed. Marshmallows and power bait on sinkers seem to work best. Easy to hit limit.

The Alberta Government is stocking this lake with over 100,000 trouts on a regular basis since the "70's when they killed all the jackfish in favor of rainbow trouts to attract people to come and catch them. I don't mind them keeping small ones as long as they keep their limit.

by fwmmeister on Jun. 30, 2014
That's a stocked lake, as long as they don't take the small ones.... And eat the catched of course - I don't mind... Just my opinion.... I don't take the limit usually, but if we're camping here I love to catch the supper....

by Jeffjohnstone on Jun. 24, 2014
Makes me sad all these people Raving about catching their limit. One day when the lake is poor fishing for their grand kids or their kids. I suppose the people today won't care

by Letsgocaching on Jun. 23, 2014
Was out yesterday fly fishing using black woolly bugger and did great. Caught lots and good size.

by Sauger on Jun. 14, 2014
Went out with the wife fished from the wall. Used a pickerel rig tried worms, maggots ,meal worms even power bait. A few nibbles but no bites, the warden said it has been a little slow..

by AlbertaCaster on Jun. 9, 2014
Fished the sea wall and trolled spinners Sunday. Bite was slow for me and slow compared to previous years. Chartreuse power bait, small black spinners with brass or silver blades worked well. Also had a guy tell me green flies worked for him.

by JPBRETON on Jun. 4, 2014
Fishing is great today. Was using pickerel rig and slowly pulling it in. Using powerbait. Catch and release Got limit plus.

How are the ice conditions currently? Hopefully with this cold snap coming in for the week it should improve. Never fished for trout before so do you have any recommendations on bait, color, or hooks? Curious what depth they're at? Gonna make it ou over the weekend and would love to catch something good. I'm used to fishing for perch and the whites. Thanks in advance. Tight lines! Cheers

by EducatorDave on Jan. 18, 2014
Myself and my two buddies hit Carson this morning. We were on the lake around 7:30 am and we all had our limit by 10:30. There was another group of 3 about 300 ft. away who also got on the lake around the same time and caught their limit. Another pair also caught theirs as well. It was a great day on the lake! Fishing small jigs with minnow tails and a couple red maggots.

7inches of snow on top of of 6/7 inches of flood water. Don't attempt to drone on

by Pikster on Dec. 30, 2013
I saw their tire tracks. Good ice really is not thick enough yet for vehicles. No point taking chances. I'm seeing similar slushy ice conditions at other lakes. Safety first everyone! Roadway leading into park was tretcherous. Heavy snowfall took it's toll.

by iFish Guest on Dec. 27, 2013
Very slushy. Some hapless Dodge Journey with all-seasons got stuck, as well as an ATV. Caught 3 decent sized Rainbows.

Very nicely developed edge along lake. I wish more lakes were like it. Does anyone catch large ones from shoreline or do you typically need a boat and fish in deeper waters?
by Bullbarley on Aug. 28, 2013
Traffic cop required. While this is one sweet spot, many troll through here and it gets a little congested on weekends. Min speed please!

New dock at the East boat launch is very nice. We mostly just lounged on the boat but fished a bit, didn't bring any bait so only caught 1 rainbow on a tiny 5 of diamonds. Small boats fishing with bait just off the North shore (just East of the narrows) did great, most all caught their limit in an hour or two.

by Cisc0 on Aug. 4, 2012
Very slow this summer compared to previous years. Ratio of hits this year vs. last year for example is maybe 1:7 using similar patterns and techniques. Couldn't keep them off the hook last year, kids loved it. Others I've spoken too concur with our results.

Love the lake but the last couple years it's gotten really busy there but I still find myself making my way back there love the rainbows about 3 years ago caught a 26 inch rainbow using orange floating power bait I caught it right beside the boat rental shack I was in aw and so was the staff at the rental shack ha ha also caught a 10lb burbot out of there
