Solid clear ice just out from cross North end
by Jonnywwdb on Dec. 13, 2020
Fished the south end Drilled holes from the deep channel right up to the shoal at 10 ft. Fish sighted only in the channel. Assume they were walleye. I was after burbot. Fished right into dark 7.30 pm. Walking back towards canal entrance could see many burbot in 1-3 ft of water up to the shore. Ice was clear enough to watch them.

Hi everyone, have never fished this lake but have heard various reports. As well as read on here. Lots on ice fishing. How is the fishing during August and September? Average fish (smaller pike and walleye) being caught? I am not looking for honey holes as I enjoy searching the lake to see what a person can find. Just curious what quality of fish a person can find. Thanks for any feedback or updates.

Ice was definitely starting to rot. Parked my truck and we walked on

by MikF on Mar. 10, 2015
That's exactly where we were, SE by the islands, two weekends ago we pulled out 4 burbot and had another half dozen bites all on salted minnows, 2 of the 4 burbot were 29" long, and last weekend we pulled out 2 burbot and lost 2 more at the hole. How was the ice looking? Obviously not good to drive on but is it at least walking safe?

by PlayDoh on Mar. 10, 2015
It's a pretty big lake WK. At least you seen some and know your in the right spot. I got one this winter on a #7 rattlin Rapala with a minnow across both trebles horizontal. Yet he watched it for awhile.

by Whitefish king on Mar. 10, 2015
Was off by the SE corner with a bunch of islands in 12FOW. Only saw a couple burbs. Couldn't land any. I would have expected more since its spawning season right now?

by Whitefish king on Mar. 9, 2015
Thanks MikF, I'm gonna give it a shot tomorrow

by MikF on Mar. 8, 2015
Last 2 weekends we've been getting the burbot in about 10-15ft of water on the east side of the res, they don't start biting until after dark. We usually get there at about 3pm and fish until 10pm.

by Whitefish king on Mar. 8, 2015
Anyone know where the burbs are in this lake, been fishing by the east islands for the past 2 weeks. Only small pike. Where can I have better luck with burbs?

35" of water. Over 10 walleye one 29", 3 over 18", none under 14". 3 pike 32", 16, and a 22. Looking for the perch, depth and shore line type helps. Under water reefs are hot right now, hard to find without depth charts.

by Semonal on Jan. 22, 2015
The campground is closed in the winter. You can either go to lake newell and camp at kinbrook island. Or go to mount kidd and drive up to the kananaskis lakes.

Wanted to know if the campground will be open on the weekend of feb 14th to feb 16th. If not are there any other lakes close to calgary that have a campground that is open and i can ice fish. Need to plug in the camper. Thanks

Hello all.

by slew on Jan. 20, 2015
Start at the 25 ft of water. Use a purple jig tipped with a shrimp or anchovies jig steady . If no bites in 30 minutes. Move closer. Repeat until you are at 6 ft of water. Then head back to 20 feet and try another run

by slew on Jan. 19, 2015
30 ft is a bit deep. They should be around 15' they will cruise the shallows for feeding. Usually late afternoon and evening. Usually fairly easy to catch at cvr

by PlayDoh on Jan. 18, 2015
It's my 1st year on hard water, and been reading that in mid winter the eyes move to mid-lake structure around 30' deep. Everyone else I see are still fishing closer to shore and no deeper then 20' at most.

by PlayDoh on Jan. 18, 2015
Can anyone tell me a depth for eyes before 4pm? I haven't found any yet until they come to 10' to 15' to feed just before sunset.

by PlayDoh on Jan. 18, 2015
Kinda slow again but a bit better than a couple days ago. I'm wondering if the eyes have gone deeper now?

by slew on Jan. 18, 2015
It should be in the next fisherman's quarterly

by KyleM on Jan. 18, 2015
Slow day, 12-20' of water using smelts. Lots of cracking throughout the day. On a side note, Maybe I don't know the etiquette, but I have had the same group drive between my ice fishing holes two weekends in a row. Is this a common practice? These are holes are clearly marked and have tip ups inside.

by MattyO on Jan. 18, 2015

by D-bar on Jan. 31, 2013
Does anyone fish for whites on this lake? How deep, do you use wire worms, what end of the lake do you fish at. Any help would be great

by Buddhameister on Jan. 13, 2013
Slow morning, no bites on west side across from boat launch, moved along at 11 am. Bites came on around 11:30, landed 3 of which two were 70 cm. lost one at the hole. Exciting in spurts. Maybe if the wind had died down it might have been a better day! Still better to be out on the hard water than staying at home!

by Journey boy on Jan. 13, 2013
Went out saturday, stayed on the boat lanch end, caught 4 pike and watched one steal my bait twice without getting hooked.. Good time for first time on that lake

by Shanks on Jan. 13, 2013

ling(burbot) are mostly night feeds, eat on the bottom and love cray fish....We fished them every winter back in ontario awesome eating...we froze sticks into the ice and checked them all day and all night and like i said they are very active at night....

by journey_boy on Dec. 29, 2012
Hey guys thought i would share my experince with burbot or ling as we call them....we fished them heavily when i lived in ontario at the cottage... they are very active at night and eat off the bottom we never really caught much during the day and we would freeze sticks into the ice and check them all day and night... they love cray fish if you can get your hands on them not sure if cray fish are in the lakes out here if they are just leave a fish head in a hole for a while and pull it up and there will be some clinging on....hope this helps guys, im looking to head out myself see if i can get a ling there great to eat

Water visibility 1ft. Camera useless. Landed a couple small pike. Done really well in summer but horribly in winter. Ice 14-16 in south end. Has anyone done well through the ice here? Can't figure it out. Hit them with everything in the book.

by Dyson on Jun. 11, 2012
I love fishing here. Mostly catch 5-10lbs walleye on rig with smelt or minnow. Walleye go into feeding frenzy and i catch 1 every 5-10 min. Great spot for lots of action. Downside - can get quite windy and quality of fishing goes down

by Chilly on May. 25, 2012

by Mattuecci on Aug. 6, 2011
Fished for 4 hours with a pickerel rig in the NW area of the lake, not a bite. Guys in the boats didn't seem to be catching anything. Only luck I seen anyone having was a guy spooning a belly-boat just outside of the weeds.
