I agree with ranger86 on watching the you tube video. I used what he said and 13 trout iced in 1.5 hours on cold lake. I had guys 30 ft from me that were not catching like I was

Where do people go when they’re looking at a new body of water to fish? Lots of people head right here to i-fish / Facebook / YouTube / to get advice on the where & how. If your looking for another bait to try to improve your success for lake trout basically anywhere head to Surge Outdoors on YouTube. I uploaded a video of a bait that I have had tremendous success with & it isn’t the tube jig. In the right spots I’ve iced 20+ days solo with these baits that are now my go to. With everything you have to be in good quality areas & fishing structure like humps, deep breaks, points & corners which puts you more in their path than a flat basin. They travel the breaks like highways, push food against or up onto. Hopefully that all helps, this body of water is a great fishery, has all the amenities close by & can be a lot of fun. Go enjoy the experience.

by East Coast Fishermen on Feb. 7, 2020

Do they fish far from shore or can you see them.

by Tootall83 on Feb. 7, 2020

Pretty easy to see where they are fishing now. Just follow the tracks. I was out last night after work and like maybe a foot and a half of snow. The ramp at provincial park was slick you need 4x4 pretty much to get up it

Anyone catching pike or walleye on cold lake yet?

Star Star Star Star Star

by Perchee on Feb. 1, 2020

Been having a blast with the walleye here at Wabamun , not big , but a ton of them .... keep in touch , coming up for perch when they start , have some good contacts up there , hope to meet you and hit those hogs !!!

by Tootall83 on Jan. 31, 2020

Thats long drive for some perch, but they are fun once you hook into them..and there are a ton of small pike, annoying but entertaining, in the shallow water

Nice catch , just had another great evening night bite on a Wabamun Lake where I live .......can't wait to come up and tackle some big perch

by Tootall83 on Jan. 31, 2020

I never heard about perch yet. I will be going next days off. Yesterday I went searching for walleye and ended up landing 13 decent trout. Of course I could not keep any. Biggest one was 73 cm. Average was 70. Few 60 cm.

Hey Tootall83, how's the perch fishing doing ? Any guys catching ? Thx

by Tootall83 on Jan. 24, 2020

I am flowing a you tuber that just posted a video about cold lake trout. New type of hook(for trout that is) he says is doing well. Surge outdoors. This guy knows his stuff puts the time in. My fishing guru

by Tootall83 on Jan. 24, 2020

Yea perchee I am a local. And ya if schedules line up can slay some perch together. I will be out every chance I get. And as for the trout french bay I dont think you need to go too far out for trout. So from the boat launch looking across to the shore as it curves out into the big part of the bay that goes from like couple feet to deep fast. I also had a friend have some luck infront of the ski hill..another spot is the north side closer to the west side of that point, that little bay there is a hump and it drops off fast. I have hit that stupid sandbar with my boat but that area is good for trout. If your in for a cruise there is good trout fishing just outside the bay by the cold river.

I'm heading out tomorrow and Saturday. It's my first time at the lake, I was wondering if the deep part of French bay would be decent for lake trout. I was out and drilled some holes this afternoon and found 14 inches of ice pretty consistently from the provincial park to the centre of French bay. Thanks

Thx Tootall83, you sound like you know the lake well , I'm guessing a local .... I will be coming there in February , maybe we can meet up for some perch fishing ! Happy Fishing and tight lines , Thx again for the info !!!!

by Tootall83 on Jan. 22, 2020

Alrighty everyone I went for a cruise from the marina to the island. There are three decent heaves on the lake. I'd say its 80 percent or more smooth across.. people were in trucks by the island. I didnt check ice depths. Perch bite is usually best late February to march

by Perchee on Jan. 21, 2020

When does the perch bite start on the sand bar ?

Star Star Star Star Star

by Ricky bobby on Jan. 21, 2020

Stamps. Drive in at provincial park. Stay on other peoples tracks. Some of the lake had only eight inches of ice on the west side of the lake. Around the provincial park it was around fourteen. Big jacks in close to shore and lakers are in deeper water. Anywhere from 60 to 120 is good
