Has anyone caught perch in this lake??
by Portersmith on Jun. 16, 2016
Is there a boat launch or any boat motor size restrictions thanks
by Futtafish on May. 15, 2016
River north of big lake and east of big lake into St. Albert is dead, barely any water depth and weeds galore. No flow to the water at all. Beavers have dammed up the whole river. Don't waste your time
by fishingpikealberta on Mar. 8, 2016
this river is great for pike , if you fish the stream that goes out from big lake down threw villinue its great, I know a few spots for suv/truck access on the south side of big lake (yellowhead end) but i cant get the hot spot to work
by hairylikeanimal on Oct. 18, 2015
Out at 7am this morning caught 11 pike largest about a 4 pounder good day all in all
by Anolis666 on Aug. 8, 2015
Went there today, the water is extremely low and the lake smells like sewer. I brought my kayak and got stuck a few times in the middle of the lake.
by Haitham on Jul. 31, 2015
Hey, I came to check this place. I tried under the bridge but it is very shallow today and so weedy. No fish :(
by Anolis666 on Jul. 3, 2015
Lots of pike under the bridge, using minnows
by Gost_Dog on Jun. 14, 2015
If you had in mind to go shore fishing close to the bridge, turn arround now hehe. Water level is too low and way too much weeds.
by Craig W. on Jun. 5, 2015
The outflow of Big Lake is the Sturgeon River, which flows through downtown St. Albert.
Over the past year (including just a few evenings ago about 5:00 pm), I've caught many 12-16" Northern Pike under the CN railway trestle bridge near St. Albert's City Hall.
I've been casting from shore, primarily using a combination of spoons, spinners, and spinner-baits. Though small-ish, the pike here bite anything!

Haven't tried ice fishing on the lake yet but in summer the mouth of the river is the best . The water was very low this summer so not sure where to try this winter.
No motor vehicles are allowed on the lake, best access is just past holes near the RV park.
by sebek18 on Feb. 16, 2015
I actually live on the south side and went last winter all over and drilled holes and the lake is literally 3 feet deep and under the bridge it's 5 feet. Not sure where people catch these pike or where they even stay over winter.

Where is the parking for the lake
by bp94 on Feb. 15, 2015
Hey just curious where to drive on from south side
by Family on Feb. 14, 2015
Would a small yellow jig head and a yellow rubber minnow work for perch
I'm generally new to ice fishing and I haven't had much luck I've only caught one small rainbow this season so I was wondering if big lake is worth it since I live close by

Anyone been out ice fishing latley
by Grumpy Gus on Nov. 27, 2014
Went out in today's storm- there's enough ice to walk on but I guess I don't know where to fish...
Parked off Ray Gibbons drive and walked out to the middle where according to google sat images looks like the deeper section (about 2kms- took me almost 45mins) and then walked some more and was still in only 12 inches of water. Needless to say wasted my afternoon.
People who say its good ice fishing here- where do you go?
by Koytoy on Sep. 1, 2014
Went out kayak fishing today. Started out with little expectations after seeing all the weeds. But wow! Between the two of us we caught 20 smaller pike and one walleye. Good day! :)
by Brigs on Jul. 28, 2014
@courtforshort if you park over near ray gibbons drive and the stergeon river you can fish from shore there. There is an rv park and parking lot right there
by MichelleFedyniak on Jul. 18, 2014
We drove around for an hour and could not find anywhere to fish or even get close to the lake :( So much road construction !!
by courtforshort on Jul. 15, 2014
Where would you do shore fishing here? I heard it was really weedy but can be done.
by hairylikeanimal on Jul. 7, 2014
Great pike fishing caught 4 in an hour only one was just barely keeper size. Still fun.... lots of surface weeds.
by MattyHansen on Jun. 28, 2014
Anywhere close to launch a boat? Looking to do a paddle with the family, but need a place I can drop my 14' Lund in without having to hike it too far
by iwilliamm on Jun. 25, 2014
Pike biting like crazy along the shore by Ray Gibbons , a few good sized ones :) Tons of floating weeds ...
by ArchAngel on Jun. 2, 2014
Was out there Saturday, water level is low and there is a lot of weeds but pulled out 3 pike (none keepers) but still was nice to pull something out, Los, some people on a canoe said there was some good size fish by the observations pier
by Brigs on Jun. 1, 2014

Anywhere near thin ice sign View on Map
A lot of fun catching small pike ! By the thin ice sign ; Sturgeon River with a shiny lure :)
by iFish Guest on Jul. 24, 2013
Casting by the bridge is practically impossible.Weed infestation is unreal. This is the worst I| have seen yet. don't waste your time going there. Add high water level problem not allowing you to cast out and if you do snag a fish good luck getting it to shore.
by iFish Guest on Jul. 19, 2013
Had a 5 or 6"red devil spoon stolen from me by a fairly large pike Thursday.. Was fishing to the left off the east dock by the bridge next to some weeds.. Plz keep in mind barbless hooks should be used to keep this lakes fish in good shape guys..
by Billzabub on Jul. 13, 2013
Was under the bridge for an hour and a half landed 2 plenty of misses. Really bad weeds but fun
by iFish Guest on Jun. 21, 2013
Not bad by the bridge (catch and release cuz they're small) nothing at the dock at the end of the path though. Fun but nothing to keep.
by Tonystabs on Jun. 1, 2013
Was here last night by he bridge on Ray Gibbons! Caught 14 pike in 2 hours. Nice spot! red Devil spoon was on fire!
by Pikster on May. 26, 2013
Was excited about trying the spot out under the bridge only to find out the Rodeo claimed the parking lot not allowing public access near the path to the bridge.
by mark775 on May. 20, 2013
Went here today for the first time. Got walk up access (and a cano launch) by the RV park by the bridge. Got one in no time. Small but still. Nice spot.
by coolfish6 on Jan. 7, 2013

I go there almost every 2weeks and around the bridge i always caught atleast 3 pikes in 2hrs, they are not big but i still having fun... Use small spoon like 1-2" size with goldish and orange colors... They works the best...
by LooseyDoucey on Jun. 17, 2012
Spent yesterday and this morning there, very weedy and lots of algae. Nothing's biting. I've tried everything and lots of different spots. No luck here. Good luck!
by LooseyDoucey on Jun. 15, 2012
Not sure where you guys are pulling these fish from, but I just fished under and around the bridge area for 5 hours, and used all my lures. Not even a sniff....

The only "easy" public access that I am aware of is from the rodeo grounds. There is lots of parking at the end of the rodeo entrance road, next to entrance to the campground. A great spot is under the bridge a short walk (400m or so). I suspect that the best way to fish this lake would be from a boat.
by Reb98 on May. 28, 2012
How do you access the lake? Do you park at the Kinsmen or by the rodeo grounds? I circled the entire lake on Sunday & the only public access I could see was maybe by the rodeo grounds but of course the Rainmaker was going on.
by Pikster on May. 17, 2012
My son snagged a 77 cm pike on opening day, along with a small one. Several nibbles as well
