It would be great if they were forced to leave the trees...there would be no problem. Their plan according to their Carvel Hall info session was to destroy about 40 metres deep of the land-side trees, leaving only 60 metres at the lake, and then allow the 30 new lots to cut down a swath of 10 metres or 10% of the width of each lot. Phoning the number is no good now, as they tell me to talk to the County. The mayor probably.
by NorthernYaker on Nov. 18, 2016
Won't affect them if the are FORCED to leave the trees and shrubbery lakeside otherwise all sorts of stuff will leech into the water without its buffer-zone.
It's already happened at countless lakes province wide.
Sure it's the likely cause of the massive winter kill here last winter as well as the partial kill 2 winters ago at Lac La Nonne.
by Howie on Nov. 18, 2016
Do you think the new proposed development will affect the fish? 75 lots (30 lakefront and 45 right behind) are proposed for our Jackfish Lake. The contact number to lodge an official government investigation is: 1-800-222-6514 if you care.
by bowzone on Jul. 5, 2016
Just talked to Fish and Wildlife in Spruce and they have changed the regs if you didn't know. Due to the winter kill on this lake, it now has a keep limit on walleye, pike, berbot and perch of 0. Catch and release only for all levels species.

Was at Jackfish Friday, June 3, only fished for about an hour from 8:30pm-9:30pm. Caught 2 walleye over 2lbs from shore using a Rapala Rattletrap and a Reef Runner Cicada. Catch and release but good fun.

Took another boat ride around Jackfish Lake on Monday walked the Shore Line on the South East corner of the Lake just North of Paramac Cove and seen a few hundred DEAD FISH mostly Large WALLEYE didn't look good also seen Dead Fish along the Shore by the Boat Launch not as many .
by Riverbear on Apr. 10, 2016
Catch and release only for the lake this year. Low oxygen was cause of die off. Rough year last year it would seem. Low water everywhere. Now this.
by Jackfish Jake on Apr. 9, 2016
Ice is out of Jackfish Lake took a boat ride things look good not a lot of DEAD FISH .Hope the Lake has survived the winter and will turn around this summer .
by Remington4444 on Mar. 28, 2016
It's a shame they let the residents do this . Specially during hot dry summers .
Water level is down because that let the residents pump water from it in the summer.

Subject: RE: Jackfish Lake
Hello Mr. Dupuis,
I have been in contact with the Seniors Fisheries Biologist for the area and the biologist are going to confirm this by hopefully coming out to do some testing within the next few days. It is the first occurrence that has been seen at this particular lake, in his experience. Unfortunately there has been a lot of development in this watershed which almost always leads to increased eutrophication and poorer water quality. However, it seems odd that it would occur in a mild winter like what we experienced this year. Hopefully with some testing they can determine what the cause may be.
If you have further questions please feel free to contact:

if anyone can go to the lake and use a camera to get some pictures of the dead fish areas and pass along to me.
I will get the pictures to the biologist that is coming out to investigate this week.

The two fisherman that had cameras found the fish on the North shores and south shores across from the main island
I hope this helps.
Found a blue oil film on Sunday in all holes drilled.
Drilled 6 holes around lake and all had the blue oil film on top.
I have a cabin on lake and i go around the lake each weekend.
Hi I just went out Tuesday morning Drilled 20 holes around the big Island and seen a few dead fish lying on the bottom of the lake but probadly only 20 dead fish from shallow water to deep water drilled where I seen fresh holes but didn't see hundreds and I have a really good camera . Are the dead fish on the bottom or floating under the Ice ?? Could the Fisherman that seen all the dead Fish tell me where they are at looking to do some research on the lake . Thanks
The water level dropped by about 14" last summer and the water Quality was terriblie before Freeze up . This Lake is over populated and there are to many Extra LARGE SKI BOATS that are killing the LAKE something has to be done to save the Lake
by fly_guy on Mar. 14, 2016
It had blue algae this summer. It eats all the oxygen up as well as gets into the fishes gills requiring more oxygen
by Jackfish Jake on Mar. 14, 2016
Spring Fed Lake but Springs not the same as they used to be . No creeks or Rivers with water flow in or out of Lake . Lake was being taken over by weeds last year and Blue Algae late in the summer
by Droc01 on Mar. 14, 2016
Does anybody agree or think. If to many fish in lake they get stunted. Low feed fish levels. And no very low O2 levels. Is it a spring fed lake or inlet out let
So many lakes in Alberta this is happening.
Thanks for the DEAD FISH update @ Jackfish Lake . Does anybody no why there is so many Small Fresh water Shrimp in Jackfish this year . Looks like serious problems for Jackfish Lake this year .

Puched about 20 holes in various depths at two locations on the 21st. Tonnes of shrimp came up every hole. But we didn't see a single fish from 9:00 until 1:00. Even if there was a fish, I'm wondering why they would go after bait with all those live shrimp available.

If you don't mind me asking, where do you fish from shore on this lake? And what bait/rig/lure are you using for walleyes?
by SnapBack02 on Oct. 3, 2015
Been pretty productive here for the past week, I've gone out 3 times this week for a few hours in the morning and night and the walleyes are plentiful, some pretty solid fish in the 3-5 pound range. All fishing from shore

So I did some phoning and was looking on Parkland county website, Parkland County does charge $20.00 for parking at Jackfish lake.
They charge parking fees:
Monday - Friday from 4:30pm - 9:00pm and Saturday, Sunday, and Stat holidays from 10:00am - 10:00pm.
I guess we need to go on off hours not to pay everytime we want to fish.
by dan1977 on May. 24, 2015
So, we went to the lake this weekend and I asked about paying....
The boat launch is free and is stated on the boards. The cost that is charged is for the parking lot. I was told that it is the county of Parkland that charges the fee. I also asked if there is a seasonal fee...but I was told that there isn't. $20.00 everything you want to launch your boat and park. I argued for a while but eventually gave up and paid.
by Moonshiner59 on May. 23, 2015
It seams Everyone is having the same problem problem with her. it seams the bylaw should investigate the problem (can she charge you to use the lake)
by David Y. S. on May. 17, 2015
There has to be something we can do about this lady. She charged me once (years ago and I never went back) and I forced her to give me a receipt. But I'm pretty sure she doesn't give everyone a receipt and pockets all that money.
by albertaheat on May. 15, 2015
As I do not have a boat, is there some place I can shore fish with my son on this lake
by cjrm99 on May. 13, 2015
I am under the understanding that the parking lot is hers or whoever she works for that owns the parking lot. She is not in charge of the boat launch. Last year that was free. And hopefully remains so this year. She can't stop someone from walking to the lake, going swimming or launching a boat (unless you park afterwards, which is likely)but it's one fee per vehicle per day, to PARK. I've got in to it with her a couple of times. I launch my boat and park at a friends that owns a cabin at the lake. Not everyone has that luxury.

http://www.servicealberta.gov.ab.ca/562.cfm__The first step in any complaint process is to talk with one of our Information Officers in the Consumer Contact Centre at 780-427-4088 in Edmonton and toll-free at 1-877-427-4088 throughout the rest of the province.__
What that lady is doing there I’ not sure if is totally legal. Also when questions were asked she was racist and very rude. I wanted to fill a complain, but I thought is not worth the time._Last summer I had a situation there. _I and a friend planned to take his boat out for fishing. I was busy that day, so my friend went there whiteout me (pay the $) and we talked that I’ll go later. Later I was able to go, so a friend of mine gave me a ride to Jack Fish Lake and drop me and my fishing gears and he left. The friend with the boat was waiting for me. _That lady went crazy because I did not want to pay. She told me that I cannot use the toilet or any other facilities she claimed she has there. I told her that any ways I will not use because of very poor an insalubrious condition, but on the other hand she was paid by my friend._She started making racial comment about Russians (and Ukrainians) and how bad these people are (I do have an accent, but I’m not Russian any ways)._I asked a receipt for the money we paid, but ….. _I’m just wondering if she pays any taxes for the money she is (abusively) collecting there and about her legal status to do that._I think something should be done about it. If she has the right to do it, I would like her to be doing it right and treat the “customer” as a customer should be treated and offer something for the money she collects._

Fished today from 10 to 3 and not even a bite!! I was marking a lot of fish but they just didn't want what I had to offer! Which was everything under the sun, maggots, 2 different kinds of worms, minnow heads & tails etc....Lures jigs on and on!To boot there was 2" of water between the ice and snow! Then I just about didn't make it back up the hill from the boat launch! Bad day all the way around! I've been skunked here twice now this winter and I'm NOT IMPRESSED! Too bad because it's a pretty lake.

Fished the lake with my son today? Well worth the 20 for parking. 17 walleye. Few over 3lbs. And 4 pike. And it was a beautiful day to boot.
West cove Lac St Anne is awesome wally, and moonlight cove at wab is always fun for C&R, Gull lake all around fun and south buck too
have not fished there since.. about 2 years. lots of other places close by just as fun or more so
couldn't leave till I paid the twenty. Was told it was because the mayor lived there and they didn't want people coming to their lake
I used to fish here when it was 10. i only use a canoe, but fishing was fun. At 20 went a few times, then one cold morning figured i would take a chance and go out. There was no one at the booth so went down and launched for about 20 mins,

Fishing is decent, pretty much guaranteed to catch a pike or walleye. Bummer you can't keep any walleye. Waaaayyy too busy of a lake with fast boats and loud stereos for a quiet, enjoyable fishing evening. Paying $20 a pop too for parking is painful.

Anywhere to fish from shore?
by Golddagda on Jun. 19, 2013
This place isn't good, got to pay $20 for parking..
by Weskyle on Jun. 13, 2013
Yeah it's a good lake to fish at and deep enough along most shores weeds are not too bad. As for parking she is usually there even weekdays weather depending. Once it warms up a bit she will always be there.
by iFish Guest on Jun. 13, 2013
Went out here for the first time two weeks ago. Caught 50 fish in 3 hours between two of us; 6 legal pike (kept two), two massive walleye, and all other excellent fish.
Since then I've been out 7 more times. I've gotten some more huge walleye, massive pike, and have not averaged less than 5 fish per hour.
The $20 parking sucks, but I have only been charged once for it, there seems to be no charge during the week.
I cannot say enough about this lake, just an excellent fishery.
I've been fishing Wizard religiously, and now I don't think I'll be going back there.
by Weskyle on Jun. 2, 2013
We went out again last night trolled from 6 ish to 9 ish. Fished crank baits again we caught 20 fish between two of us. I was using the husky jerk size with 2 hooks not 3 in the fire tiger pattern, cousin tried a lot of hooks caught the on ghost x rap and fire tiger rattle rapala.
Came back here again last night fished from about 6ish to 9 ish between two of us caught 20 fish. 15 pike and 5 Walleye. I caught 11 on the husky jerk the largest one with two hooks is what I was using in fire tiger colour. My cousin fish almost everything in my box, as we had a tourney going on. I had set him up with a x rap shad in glass ghost but he ended up using the rattling rapala in fire tiger.
by iFish Guest on Jun. 2, 2013
Hey weskyle, kind of
Crank baits u talkin bout ?
by Weskyle on May. 29, 2013
There is a bit if a floating peer around there, I see a few people fishing from shore at the peer and around it. Most of the land on the lake is private, most of the lake is actually cabins on the waterfront. Not sure I would try it without a boat as they nail u 20 bucks to park, at least with the boat you could move around to a few different holes. I have fished this lake a bunch grew up 3 km south of it and have had the best luck around the north west side on the island and then the north island.
by iFish Guest on May. 29, 2013
is there any good shore fishing spots here that are accessable by foot? any docs? worth trying without a boat?
by Weskyle on May. 26, 2013
Came out this evening after the storm we trolled crank baits today 3 mph got about 30 fish and brought in a few walleye up to 3 pounds was a good night
by Weskyle on May. 25, 2013
We stuck out the rain and hail storm fished for about 2 hours trolled the shoreline got. 9 pike only 2 would have been keepers. Two of us fishing, worst part is 20 dollars to park even today, don't mind paying but the parking lot is terrible had to go into four wheel drive as its very soft right now.
by Tysonf on May. 21, 2013
Lots of little jack. View on Map

2nd time back to fish. (sept 5th). Lots of boats with recreational users which made it tough to fish. Only 4 bites in total in 2 hours, and only two baby pike caught near the public boat launch.
by Jay on Aug. 30, 2011
Was here on August 28th. Caught a couple Pike, however both were undersize. Lots of power boaters cranking dance music so I left earlier than I would have liked and felt like I didn't really get much value out of my $20 parking fee. I doubt I will return unless it is very early morning before the night club atmosphere begins.
