Fished for a few hours the other day, landed 4 on back swimmers about 10ft off the dock. Biggest was 20.5 inches! Good to see!
by Mr Flyguy on Aug. 13, 2016
Some of us will likely go out in the fall for the backswimmer action but if others want to wait for next spring that's OK with me!
by Alberta_flyfisher on Aug. 11, 2016
Weeds have fully taken over the lake, in a float tube it's unfishable. Don't bother even trying. Go to another lake. You won't have a good time. The weeds are getting close to the dock as well.
by Craig W. on Aug. 9, 2016
Was out yesterday evening (Aug. 8). Weeds have grown almost to the surface (nearly everywhere). Not a sign of trout jumping/surfacing anywhere at all. Water's probably too warm at this stage in mid-summer. Don't waste your time until next spring folks.

by Alberta_flyfisher on Jul. 22, 2016

Finally came back with my boat. Tried out 4 different flies before I found success with a green Willy bugger. Caught 3 within 30 minutes
by That_guy on Jun. 1, 2016
First time here really nice lake. Didn't catch anything (dock was busy and could only find shallow water by shore) would love to come back with a canoe.
by iwilliamm on Jun. 1, 2016
The fishing has been fun so far although mostly smaller ones , it's too bad about the whole arreation problem ... Hope to see some good size ones in the next year or two :)
by SnapBack02 on May. 26, 2016
Fishing has been good this week surprised on the size range of these fish. Biggest was 16" smallest was 10". Still trying to find the Browns tho. Anyone have any luck with them?
by Barrybull on May. 26, 2016

by Newfie69 on May. 18, 2016

Despite the winterkill, I caught three 12" rainbows mid-afternoon today on a small spinner (from a boat). Tons of them jumping today, and lots being caught by others too.

by pikeguy420 on Apr. 9, 2016
Cannon ask what makes you think that? I went and seen lots of minnows and no dead trout. Are you sure about this? I am not the most informed about the lake.
by jaytwizzy on Apr. 6, 2016
Lake is DEAD!!! Sooo mad right now
by Patzaz on Mar. 13, 2016
They did and the last ACA report is there will be partial, potentially full die off.
by sedubius on Mar. 6, 2016
Can anyone confirm that they have put the new revised aeration program in place on Muir?
by SLEMZWORLD on Oct. 14, 2015
Only got one this past weekend and the water temp was quite cold on the old legs out on the float tube but it was fun regardless! Fish is back swimming and my toes are back to normal haha
by Mr Flyguy on Sep. 25, 2015
Good fishing now on backswimmer/boatman patterns. Recent three trips have yielded a number of fish over 20 inches.
by Maztransit on Sep. 1, 2015
On and off quickly this past Weeeknd. Saw someone catch a 20.5" but didn't get anything ourselves.
by kstepney on Aug. 20, 2015
Was on the lake from 7:30 till Sun down. No fish, no bites. It was slow for everyone on the water. Did not see any fish caught. Some surface activity, but I couldn't match what was active.
by Isaac Haines on Jul. 13, 2015
Water temp is pushing 25° celsius. Please rain!

Kayak fishing, was using a spinning reel with a Arctic fox (pink and silver). Caught 5 rainbows smallest was 10', largest was 18' so close to a keeper..great day!!
by Bluenoser1971 on Jun. 8, 2015
Last night, lots of fish surfacing, but not much biting. A dozen craft on the water, only saw two fish reeled in. Did see a trout the size of my arm take a GIANT leap though. That made the night worth it.
by jason shaw on Jun. 3, 2015
Oh yeah I released them all last week . Went out tonight only got one about 17 "
Great hidden treasure. Fly fishing or spinners only. Was out last week and got three one 21 and 19 inches the rest were small. Oh and got one brown 14 inches

by Soiler on May. 1, 2015
Ya, I caught a little 11" Brown today. They grew a bit over the winter. Hopefully they can grow a few more inches over this summer.
by SnapBack02 on Apr. 29, 2015
Has anyone hooked into a brown here? According to last years stocking report they had 450 put in.

Planning on going Wedn afternoon & since I'm new to this would appreciate any helpful advice for shore casting. Is the dock a good spot?
by bakercreek56 on Aug. 15, 2014
Would love any tips for what they are taking in the evenings. Early season I was catching loads but now can't seem to match the fly. Tried chroni, Caddis emerged, San Juan worm, mayfly emerged, boatman and back swimmers. Nada. Help a brother out!
by Cajed1 on Aug. 14, 2014
Spin casting has paid of for mr here this yr. nothing smaller than 14" so far plenty of 17-19" and a couple over 21". Not a lot each outing about 1 a hour. I find it's all about time of day. And I'm usually leaving as people show up.
by Dan83 on Aug. 14, 2014
I would say this lake is tailor made for the fly fisherman. Lots of trout jumping around today, however this lake is filled with thick grass weed. Not so good for spin casting.
by Marko_o8 on Aug. 13, 2014
Two hours on spinners no bite. Few rainbows jumping around, better for fly.
by Action fish on Aug. 5, 2014
Was out for three hours this evening and landed four
by Jersey on Aug. 4, 2014
Catching one or two an hour on the fly. Caught one three lbs. all fish caught are back in the lake for the next angler
by bakercreek56 on Aug. 2, 2014
I can't speak for spin fisherman but for Fly fishing this is a great lake. It offers a challenge every time and offers big trout. Fished it three times this year and caught fish every time and some real beauties!
by JDS on Jul. 24, 2014

by WildGunz on Jun. 7, 2014

Girth bigger than both my arms.
She now back swimming...
Thats all I caught. But had no problem leaving early after that show.
by Jeffjohnstone on Jun. 6, 2014
Grumpy why are you even eating them??
by Grumpy Gus on May. 13, 2014
Was out there opening day with no luck- wind was horrible. Some others caught a few on the fly- said they looked healthy.
And for those curious- they taste just like the black mud they live in.
by Dipperdan on May. 11, 2014
Fishing can tough off shore but not a lost cause. Try indicator with a balanced leach or chironomid . Have fun . please no bait and only over 20 inchs
by SnapBack02 on May. 8, 2014

by Clark on May. 5, 2014

by FishOn420 on May. 4, 2014
yes those are both "bait", maybe give your regulation book another read.
by stingray14 on May. 4, 2014

by Clark on May. 3, 2014
Can you shore fish here?
Is Muir open to boat fishing? According to regulations it is. Still some ice in the middle?
by Jeffjohnstone on May. 1, 2014
They have to be over 50 cm. I don't know of anybody who actually keeps them. When they are that big. Too much respect for them.
by stingray14 on May. 1, 2014
Does anybody know if the fish here are good to eat? Had a friend tell me he heard the fish are no good but weve never cauggt them from muir
by DionRoy on Apr. 29, 2014
I went to the lake this morning. Open water near the dock and boat launch areas. Still a bit of ice mid lake and on the West side (looks pretty thin).. It's already fishable from shore. After today's heat wave May 1st looks like we'll be good to go! Can't wait.

Quick question what flies are being used that fish here like?
by Tysonf on Aug. 31, 2013
Went out this morning for a couple hours and had a couple bites but my paddle holder broke off so I had to limp back to shore. Nice little lake though.
by iFish Guest on Aug. 23, 2013
Out almost everyday the last 2 weeks, hammered between 8-12 everyday mainly 18" in size, good fishin muir!
by Jeffjohnstone on Aug. 22, 2013
I agree with all the work they put into muir and what it used to be like. It would be nice if people released fish. That way they are allowed to get big and fishing would be more exciting. I don't mind if people keep some. Per month but watch a guy at east pit who I am sure goes everyday and keeps all he catches
by Cory10 on Aug. 16, 2013
by iFish Guest on Aug. 9, 2013
I agree it would be nice if it was only catch and release. Same with all the stocked ponds in the Edmonton area. Nice place to fish, but if people would leave them in there people would catch more fish...hence the term fishing.

by iFish Guest on Jun. 8, 2013
it would be lovely if Muir was strictly catch and release.

My brother and I were out on Muir Lake on Saturday .Got one at first light around the 14 inch ,then around 10 am i noticed some risers on the east side of the island .For a bit i watched and saw some Caddis fly's dropping and luckily i had brought some with me.

Muir was great today. 3 fish all over 20". Perfect day, not to busy, hungry fish.
by SumYungGi on Sep. 3, 2011
I used to drive out to Muir many years ago (20+) from Edmonton to enjoy the lake and the fishing. Back then, some idiot dumped some Jackfish in the lake and they nearly ate all the trout. He thought it made for more entertaining fishing!! Moron. Glad to hear people are still fishing there and catching trout. Do people still swim there?
by Flyguy on Jul. 18, 2011
Love this lake. Best with boat and flyrod. Smart, big rainbows (3lb-20" & 6lb-26"), lots of weeds.
by Doc on Jul. 16, 2011
This is a quality enhanced fishery with regulations of no bait (flies or lures only), one trout over 50cm per day (all others must be released and the lake is closed from November 1 - April 30. Muir is aerated during the winter helping the trout survive and grow to a good size. Trout of up to 24 inches have been caught here.
by Mr.K on Jul. 9, 2011
Can get muddy and weedy. Best shore fishing is probably from the dock casting north west.
by Jaykul on Jul. 4, 2011
Fished all morning no hits until 10am and then had a fish strong enough to break my new 6.5lb tippet off. Frustrating or what?
by Ricecracka on Jun. 15, 2011
Fished 3 hrs in a boat and caught 2 with a spinrod and spoon And a little guy trolling a fly
by Boognish on May. 24, 2011
Great small lake. Air rated in winter huge rainbows and also stocked every year. There is a bait ban and a limit of one fish. The only down side is that there are alot of weeds.
by Agitated angler on May. 15, 2011
Fished all afternoon from shore. Didn't get a single bite. Would be a nice place to relax if the wind didn't keep blowing me off my chair though.
by xtreme_hunter09 on May. 10, 2011
fished for 4 hours in the belly boat, the only thing i got was almost frost bite and one actual bite. people were saying it might of winter killed, but i didnt see any dead fish. too early for fly fishing is my guess. we will just have to wait and see.
by ToeSpeed on May. 7, 2011
Fished right beside the dock for a hour and had 2 good fish. Looking forward to spending a whole day there now!
