Not melting very fast with this cool weather. Some water near the edge but most of the lake is still solid ice. Probably br at least a couple weeks yet for ice out.

Is there any whitefish left in this lake? Nobody has really answered this question. All I catch is walleye from deep water to shallow water.

Going out there this coming up Sunday, can anyone give me some ideas for lures I could use for whitefish and walleye.

Hay all fisherman and lady's just wondering if any one would have info on seeing anyone around the point just south of Mulhurst bay over the past week. Some people destroyed two fishing huts and would like to find out who it was or if there was any vehicles in area
by ATVGuy on Mar. 19, 2017
Clarification: a couple of days of plus 6 Celsius. Apparently this forum doesn't like showing the plus symbol.
Ice reports are 28 inches to 3 feet. A couple days of 6 isn't going to make that much difference.
by BeerBabesBurbot on Mar. 19, 2017
Wasn't fishing Mulhurst today but fished a few spots at different parts of the lake and there is still lots of ice with no signs of rotting yet. Can't imagine Mulhurst would be much different. Just watch for heaves one we ran into would be hard to see if you were being reckless.

Was thinking about going out in the morning. Anybody know How's the ice around mulhurst. Is it still good to go out on
by mapman_yyc on Mar. 18, 2017
Fished overnight Thursday just off the dropoff by the Provincial Park. C&R a good sized burbot just after midnight and a nice pike around 9 AM. Caught both on a glow gumball jig with a salted minnow.
by browning-gone-fishing on Mar. 17, 2017
Hey, if you are looking to do some good pike fishing I would suggest hitting wizard lake just up from pigeon you will have way more action with the pike on this lake rather than pigeon!! But if you are set on pigeon lake you can go left of the boat launch at mulhurst or head to the far side at the provincial park may get some luck over there!!!
by Lef1616 on Mar. 17, 2017
Hey everyone. Im new to the lake and really just want to do some catch and release for some pike. I have no idea how deep to fish or where to fish. Not looking for any crazy secrets just a helping hand is all. Thanks everyone
by C2tus on Mar. 12, 2017
Drive out on the boat launch at crystal springs, go right to Norris beach or left to Grandview.Fish either point where all the shacks are. I think there's only 2 shacks left at Norris.

Thank you gold fishwish I will be leaving in 5 hours. So not to late. Once I get my walleye I will hunt for whites and perch. Yes I've seen perch really shallow and we'll under 25 cm. Hopefully I catch pike. I know I can't keep them but I like catching
by Big FishWish on Mar. 9, 2017
I know I come late with this info but I caught a big 5 lb white 2 weeks ago. jigged a smaller plain gold spoon in 18 feet of water, 1 foot from bottom. Good Luck.
by C2tus on Mar. 8, 2017
The ice is well over 20" thick. Should be good with the week we just had, watch out around the stress cracks when it gets mild out. Follow everyone else tracks you should be fine.
by FlounderPounder on Mar. 8, 2017
Thanks for the tips guys. Just curious as to the ice conditions.... I'm sure it's plenty thick. Every where else I've gone has been 30+ inches. Just wondering if there are any trouble spots to look out for (springs, heaves, etc). Sunday will be first time to pigeon in quite a few years. Will post results. Thanks for any info
by mountainman11 on Mar. 8, 2017
For walleye I use a knuckle ball jig head. Stick a minnow through the eyes. Than pull head into head of jig head. Hook minnow again on body part now it should rest on bottom of lake at a 45°angle. Have it so the line has tension but still on bottom. Dead stick one like that or both. If rod is in hand do the same on the bottom . Every bit or so jig up a and down if you want.
Will somebody please tell me what to do for white fish in this lake
by C2tus on Mar. 7, 2017
Try a gold Mazuno lipless crank bait( you can buy them at the Petro-Canada on the south side of the lake at the village) . Fish off a point in about 8-10ft of water or 60-100ft from the shore, right before dark. Tie it directly to your line. Sit it 8" from the bottom and jig up hard 2-4 ft then pause, let it float back down and settle unil it is pulmb to your rod tip. If that doesn't work put some tunes on and make it dance to your music 8" above the bottom.I live on the lake and fish it a lot. I've tried almost every other crank bait, lures, shinners, etc. This seems to work the best for me. I took 4 walleye in 15 min, 7 in 2 hrs.last week. Good luck!!
by SnapBack02 on Mar. 7, 2017
I agree with the below post. This is a site for anglers to help fellow anglers. If you can't afford the technology like cameras and flashers this is all you have to assist you to find fish. Already at a disadvantage so help ppl out.

I like this app it it's really frustrating that people don't post tips. Or answer questions. I'm going out Friday Saturday and Sunday. I will update got class b tags I'm going to fish shallow.

by Chico 29 on Feb. 4, 2017
I have been having lots of luck by Mameo in 5-7 feet of water. Walleye don't need deep water in winter. They move to shallow water to feed on the bait fish. I've been jigging with spoons and had excellent results.
by River_rat on Feb. 3, 2017
Very slow day around the provincial park, fished in 12-22 feet of water, saw only a small handful of fish on the camera in all the spots I moved to, all were pretty lathargic and weren't interested in anything I had to offer.
by Tikka Hunter on Jan. 29, 2017
Fished Mulhurst this am for a couple hours. On the ice at 7:30 am. Picked up one B class, only 2 bites in 2.5 hours. They have definitely moved. The bike races were starting so I packed up and headed home. Beautiful morning.

by Carpet_Surfer on Jan. 28, 2017
Drove up today with my dad. We were the first ones on the lake before sunrise. Tried fishing mulhurst bay. Went 8, 15, 18, and finally 22 ft througout the day moving around. Didnt see much on the camera and no bites on the jaw jackers or rod. About 26 inches of ice. 15 or so trucks on the ice but nobody seemed to be catching anything today. Hit those deep drifts with some speed and you'll be good! Not sure where all the walleye went from a few weeks back when they couldn't keep em off the hook?
Went here today. Mulhurst bay. We got here first thing in the morning to fill our walleye tags. Started at 10 ft then 15, 18, 20, and finally 22 ft. Had the aquaview and the flasher going and only saw 3 fish all day and no bites. Dissapointing day. Not sure where all the walleye went. There were about 15 other truck in the bay and didnt seem like anyone was catching. Maybe just a bad day but it was strange not seeing any fish

by Troy78 on Jan. 12, 2017
Walleye are fine to eat. Not sure why they haven't been bought up. To many tags maybe ? Been like that for a few years now. You would think they would just reopen the lake for 1 walleye. Like Slave or Buck. Maybe they like the cash they get for the tags.
by Perchslayer on Jan. 11, 2017
Just curious why people aren't eating up the walleye tags? Is the fish not good to eat out of the lake or something? I also heard it was a dirty lake? Just looking for some clarification. Wife and I have tags and we are going to fish it next week for the first time. :)

Just to answer some previous questions... I drove on Lake as many others, few inchs of snow and drifts. I got access on to lake, right in front of Mulhurst restaurant.a low frost heave there too, one van got stuck trying to get over, truck or suv would have no problem.
I went in the afternoon to fish on this Lake at Mulhurst bay. Ice is 2 feet thick, and was at a depth of 8 feet of water._I did not see even 1 fish in the two hours I tried, the good news is the water was fairly clear._Talked with another guy leaving and they had luck catching Walleye south of me at the next point...

Ice is about 14"
Fishing is slow
Anyone catching perch??
by Dan83 on Dec. 23, 2016
I fished at Mulhurst for a few hours on Thursday. I wasn't sure of the ice thickness so I walked on. 12-14" of ice about 200 m from shore. Be careful though, lots of bare ice and lots of frozen waves make the lake dangerous without a pair of cleats. The fishing was slow, saw nothing of size on the radar or down the hole, just lots of minnows.
by Billchucktaylor on Dec. 23, 2016
Anyone driving on the lake?
by oggie on Dec. 23, 2016
_The fish out of Pigeon Lake are very tasty in the winter. This is my own opinion. Walleye are great eating. The white fish are very good as well, if you can catch them. In winter 60 years ago, fish from Pigeon Lake were shipped by rail car to New York. On the menu at their restaurant stated Pigeon Lake white fish. So the story goes from the elders that live in this region.__
by LordOfTheFish on Dec. 23, 2016

by oggie on Dec. 22, 2016
Hard to get on the lake due to 6-8 ft ice heaves. The heaves are all over the lake. Many coming close to shore. Hard to find a place to drive on with a truck. The best way would be with ATV. ski-do or quad. Merry Christmas, good luck and good fishing. P.S. Very clear ice (no snow)

by Riderprider on Jul. 9, 2016
Was out at the PP last night. Wind came up for a while and blew us into 10-12 fow. Still caught walleye although not as many. Actually caught quite a few on leeches. Usually a jig and minnow is king. All in all a great night.

Hi trophyfish, what are you using to catch walleye?
by TrophyFish on Jul. 5, 2016

Great walleye fishing in 20 ft deep from provincial park.
by Clave on Jul. 1, 2016
Pigeon is very shallow for a long way out so does not have much for good shore fishing spots. That said you can catch walleye just about any where in that lake and I have certainly seen a number caught from shore.

Ice is no longer drivable at Mulhurst .... 10 yards out the ice is 22 inches but the shore line has melted and you can't make it to the stronger ice without risking getting stuck . And when I say risk I mean you will get stuck . Provincial park side you can still get on as the launch is shaded a bit by the trees .
by Addictedtofishing2258 on Mar. 27, 2016
To add to yesterday - landed a monster walleye by provincial park at about 12 pm ! On a tip up being used to target pike . Had a split rig with two large trebles and a jumbo hearing on it and couldn't beleive me eyes to see giant walleye eyes staring at up at it got to the hole . 2 firsts - landed a pike and a wire worm and walleye on a jumbo hearing .
by Addictedtofishing2258 on Mar. 26, 2016
Fishing provincial park this am in about 12 -18 ft . Landed a 6 lb pike on a copper wire worm with nothing on it - wasn't jogging it either . So,that was a first landing a pike on 4 lb test with no metal leader . Extreamly slow . I think I'm the only one who's landed anything and it was an accident
by Snowbear on Mar. 26, 2016
Going out tomorrow with snow bear .They say the monsters are by the island .will be interesting .if there is 2 feet of ice that's tons .any one herd this story
by ATVGuy on Mar. 26, 2016
PP launch was fine this evening. Its just a bit of a bump getting out, but not bad. Lots of trucks on the ice.__Thanks mountainman for the tip about the weeds north of PP. I finally found wally. 3 right around dusk. 2 of them were too big for my tags though. No bites before or after dusk.
by Addictedtofishing2258 on Mar. 25, 2016
Can anyone point me in the direction of the whites this year ? Last year at this time you could limit out at Mulhurst bay in 5 ft of water . I went out this morning and was the only person on the bay ! Wtf is going on . I fished sun up till about 9:30 and then left frustrated . I figure when it's a holiday and still no one is on the lake something is up with the lake . I've tried the 12-18 in Mulhurst bay as well still no luck . As long as I can remember the burbot come in to Mulhurst to spawn and the whites are right behind them eating the eggs . Apprently not this year - or they are late and considering the weather I thought the whites would be in the bay 2 weeks ago . Any help on finding them - please let me know - also what your catching them on (colour)
by Riderfan on Mar. 23, 2016
I still have b class to fill. I'm going on sat or Monday.. I would like to drive on at PP launch if it's still safe. I drove on last week over the ice heave but had no luck. Going to try one more time, does anyone know if it's still safe. I'll walk if need be

by Brad0420 on Mar. 13, 2016
Search alberta fall walleye netting index. This report will show you how the population of each fish species is doing in your lake. Walleye are native to most lakes in alberta including this one bUT we're fished out most lakes including this one. This made good perch lakes as no walleye to eat perch. Now the lakes need to get readjusted to walleye. Pike limits are good as everyone keeps pike which are easy to catch since they can't keep walleye. Alberta lakes are s% (t because too many people keep too many fish. No respect for the fisheries
by mountainman11 on Mar. 12, 2016
@truck guy off provincial park go left following the shore you can't miss it. There is a part of the lake that is closed off for ever so don't go to far. I was before the houses closer to the dams
by Truckguy36 on Mar. 11, 2016
Where are the weeds. I have been in 4fow last Monday and was at the mouth by the coutages. The walleye always go there to spawn. I just think it's a couple weeks early still. Once the ice starts melting they will head to there spawning area.
by Clave on Mar. 11, 2016
It's the Walleye that are eating everything in sight and throwing the whole lake out of balance. There were plenty of perch in Pigeon (for decades) when there was just pike, whitefish and Burbot. As soon as the walleye were introduced and allowed to run rampant all other species declined.
by DC168 on Mar. 11, 2016
With the rise in walleye population, white fish is difficult to find. I understand they are trying to promote walleye fishing here. However, a balanced population is vital to the future recreation fishing of this lake. When it run out of white and perch, there is nothing to eat.
by mountainman11 on Mar. 11, 2016
Biologist are wrong. I caught 6 walleye all over 50. Tagged 2.
Caught 10 pike.
This lake should be 3 over 50 without tags. For walleye and 2 pike between 50 to 70 cm. If that was the case I could of kept 1 out of 10. How do they even test the lake???????????
@ truck guy fish in 3-5 fow along weeds.
by oggie on Mar. 11, 2016
I have to agree with ATVGuy. I also have caught a lot of pike this year. Lost plenty of hooks to them as well. The reason my be that commercial fishing has been stopped for the third year. With all the pike and walleye in this lake, there will never be a healthy perch fishery here. I`m sure that our so called biologist`s don`t even own a fishing rod.
by ATVGuy on Mar. 10, 2016
I'm surprised by the reaction regarding pike population. My experience has not been a lack of pike in Pigeon lake. Rather the opposite. I see more pike in Pigeon than anything else. And I haven't seen a single perch in 6 years! Coincidence? I still don't understand - why protect all those monster pike when they eat everything in sight?
by Truckguy36 on Mar. 10, 2016
Have fished pigeon the past 3 Monday's in a row. Well over 24 inches of ice still. But can't seam to find the walleye to fill my tags. Started out from provincial park boat launch. 16fow. And have went west from there. Can't even see any on camera. 8 hrs each day. And nothing.
by newscientist on Mar. 10, 2016
I read their report about pike population in pigeon lake and it seems still declining despite their restrictive catch limits. I guess the increasing number of walleyes don't let small pikes to grow. I personally think they should ease their restriction on catching walleyes, and pike population will have a better chance to rebound.
by Clave on Mar. 10, 2016
Thank god they finally got around to protecting the pike in that lake. This used to be a very good mixed species lake before it was managed solely for walleye. It would be nice to also see the perch come back as well. Oggie I agree Fisheries has wrecked this lake by their mono species walleye management. But at least we can see they are now trying to restore the natural balance.
Zaner you might try "Battery World" for your 12 V camera battery.
by oggie on Mar. 10, 2016
Google My wild Alberta .com Click on My Wild Alberta fishing. The biologist`s have wrecked this lake completely.
by ATVGuy on Mar. 9, 2016
0 limit on pike? Why!? You can catch pike in any slough in Alberta, so I don't see a reason to protect them so aggressively. My understanding is pike are used to keep the perch at bay. Well, I don't see a problem with too many perch in Pigeon Lake. If there is any logic behind this decision, would it be too much to ask for a write-up in the fishing guide?
by oggie on Mar. 9, 2016
New regs for Pigeon Lake state that there is a zero limit for pike as of April 1 2016. That limit will also be for 2017. For 2017 fishing will be closed from April 1- May 14 2017 At Pigeon Lake. Personally I think that these biologist's have their head in their ass.__

I'm taking a friend fishing tomorrow who has never caught a fish through the ice ... Can anyone point me to where I can land any fish on pigion ? I know the lake fairly well . But summer spots are not the same as winter spots and I've fished pigion 3 times in the winter and never once have had a bite .

by Bearhunter52 on Jan. 30, 2016
4 guys fished for 3 hours at Sundance Beach today. 10-12 feet of water. One walleye hooked and four others seen but were not interested. Very Slow. Seems like the bad algae bloom last summer and fall may have depleted the oxygen making the fish very lethargic and not willing to bite. Been the same story all winter in an area which used to product good numbers

You don't have to go where everyone else is on a lake to catch fish. Pike are everyone all the time. Walleye like structure and its easy to predict what depth they will be at with a little research off the web given the time of year. This lake has a lot of fishing pressure but the walleye seem to be in abundance and of great size. If your coming from Edmonton and looking to catch and release walleye only but have fun doing it this is the lake for you. Try the north west side of the lake just south of the creek beside the large houses that have there own marina back from the lake, you'll see what I mean on google maps. Early july in about 10' - 12' of water. Had great success there but everyone clumps infront of the PP instead. Hope this helps folks. Keep your rod tips up and tip ups down! :)

To those who leave their trash in the lake, please stop. There are garbage cans at shore use them!
I hope you reported this to fish and game

18 inches provincial park fair amount of walleye. To those of you that think it's ok to sink your empty beer cans to the bottom along with red solo cups .
They show up real nice in a camera are lakes suffer enough with out the extra trash.
Take you crap off the ice when you leave no real sportsman would ever do leave garbage on the lake or in the lake .. Show some class

is there any fishing derbys in alberta
by mountainman11 on Dec. 26, 2015
On Dec 21 ice was 12 inches at provincial park. If it's clear ice that's good enough for half tons.
Your life your truck. You're call.
I was driving my titan on ghost lake on December 23 only 11 inches of ice clear and loud firm cracking
by The Pep on Dec. 26, 2015
Are people driving on at provincial park
1 pike over 100 cm
10 white fish if you can catch them. There are lot's usually suspended.
Walleye 0 unless you have tags. Or Indian with a net permit. Commercial fishing is no longer in Alberta. But Indians and metis can harvest with net still.
I've seen it in march 2015 and numbers are up.
Burbot is 1 February March burbot is 0
Perch is 5 over 25 cm.
I hope this helps. I wish people were more helpful on this site. A few are very helpful and I appreciate that. But alway look at you're regulations.
Happy fishing on the hard water and good luck
@pikeguy17 just look at the regs.
But I've caught pike. But you can't keep them unless they're over 100. Cm.
I've only seen 1 burbot my buddy got last year. Tons of walleye but you must get tags. Go to a licencing place and see if there is any undersubscribed tags left.
The white fish are there but go early morning and shallow.
I've seen perch in 4fow or less but nothing of size. You're aloud 5 over 25 cm for perch. Go to provincial park. About 400 yard's out is the drop off.
I fish there for walleye.
If you're fishing just to catch and release target the walleyes
by Pikeguy17 on Dec. 25, 2015

Google pigeon Lake and blue green algae. The government says the filets are okay to eat. Personally, I don't always trust what the government says. Anyway, if you wait a few months it will clear up in the fall. That is when I head out there.

I am planing to take my family to the pidgeon for a weekend, Camping etc, and would like to barbecue some fish if i catch anything, but, i've been reading all kinds of comments, one say it's ok to eat, other aying it's not. by syncronized77 on Jul. 19, 2015
Was there a few weeks ago....unable to boat as many as the other reviewers but in the short time at the provincial park launch at 8 feet depth boated dirty dozen wallies 7-8 in the class A size. A few on crankbaits but mostly on frozen minnows and floater rig setup. Camped at zeiner not knowing anything out there and everyone in the boat was landing walleyes no matter which way you flung your lure...towards shore or away. Not sure how it would be now as the other lakes with walleye are starting to slow down.
by Hoagie on Jul. 13, 2015
Had a great weekend in the water. Saturday, the boat caught over 60 eyes. Sunday another 60 eyes and a couple big jacks. Most of the eyes were over 52cm. They are getting bigger! Caught a couple 4lbers

This is an odd question. Where is the best burbot fishing? Best times are early morning or close to sunset, right?
The blue green algae was really bad on Thursday near sunset harbour. Over by mulhurst by Saturday, it was fine!

by Fishingjob on Jul. 3, 2015
Interesting fact, 2014 was a record number of fish cought by netting.
by catchingallday on Jul. 1, 2015
The only thing worst than meat hunters are aboriginal net fisherman.... leave them in the lake for everyone to enjoy
MOney Grab,__You guys are nuts, the only reason there are fish there is the tag system. Freaking meat hunters!! Do you not understand that Alberta is not a population of 1 million any more. If all anglers take one fish it would be a desert out there. The only reason lakes within an hour of Edmonton have these fish are these regulations... what would you prefer, a night on the lake catching 60 fish and eating none, or a night on the lake with two fish and getting to eat it. I'd rather put them back and let'm grow, let the tag system work to thin out the herd and wait for the trophies.
by gloveman on Jun. 30, 2015
Your reasoning is partially correct Mr. Hansen.... but one of the biggest reasons you only caught a handful is because you didn't have the Captain with you!
by doylejhansen on Jun. 29, 2015
Yes we were out on Sunday the 28th, and all the spots that usually produce 80 to 100 fish, we caught only 6 fish?! My quess with the north wind, moving all things living to the south part of the lake and full moon coming, numbers were down? One thing is for sure they didn't jump out of the lake and went on holidays!! lol

by Zhunter on Jun. 21, 2015
Fished last week. Launched at mulhurst didn't have to head out too far before we hit the walleye. 80 fish in a couple hours all between 45-55cm had two tags for over 50 cm sure tasted not bad over the fire. Not sure why they don't allow 1 per person. Also spotted the biggest whitefish I have ever seen floating on top of the water with the gulls at him.
by oggie on Jun. 21, 2015
Didn't print my first comments. Every thing we do today is a money grab. I got a draw for pigeon lake this year. Each of two fish that I keep costs me $7.50. What a joke. Wecaught some disfigured fish this year. Their could a disease in the fish already because of the amount of fish in the lake. The biologist's seem to think that they know best on harvesting the fish. Instead of giving an angler a fish or two to eat they would sooner leave go bad. They screwed up the white fish already. It's all a money grab.
by Rhino101 on Jun. 20, 2015

Great weekend fishing. I'm not attempting to go to the lake for the April 1-15 . A guy fell in through the ice yesterday. He's ok. Stay off pressure cracks that's how he broke through.
by mountainman11 on Mar. 28, 2015
The gate to the campground is closed. But provincial park is open
You can walk on with caution and kick out holes. There is no open water. But the ice is starting to get chunky as you drill. So if you mean casting from shore than I would say no.
BTW I got skunked today. But there is always tomorrow
Auto correct. Try your best to read what I posted
On the lake right now. Quad helped ice is good for sleds and quads. The approach has a tiny pressure ridge. Use caution. For fishing I will update latter. I'm at the provincial park. About approaches dozen people out her March 28
by koobiedog on Mar. 28, 2015
Was on the ice till 930 last night. You can walk on from provincial boatlaunch but bring waterproof boots as there is an inch or so surface melt. About 500m to NE you will see holes around the drop off area. No hits till 5pm, then 4 pike in 30 min, all around 70 -80 cm.all back to live another day! 1 over 50 cm walleye around 7pm released, 2 more pike in the 70cm range, then 745 till 9 pm managed to fill my 43-50cm tags. Wisibility about 12ft down. The highlight, 930pm, 4 ft water hooked into a 68 cm wallie figured bout 6-8lbs on tip up.sent her back to spawn. If weather stays like this, getting on and off over the pressure ridge by the boat launch may be tricky. Good way to end my 2014 season!
by Houston1 on Mar. 27, 2015
Is the gate open to the provincial Park? Can you fish from shore ?
by mountainman11 on Mar. 27, 2015
I'm fishing tomorrow March 28 and Sunday. Hopefully by the provincial park.
So if there's any questions about the condition ask me I will answer.
Thanks for the heads up. Yes it will be me and 2 buddies. 1 quad. Hopefully I will land some perch or whites in 2-3 fow. Any tips for them? Has anyone been getting on by the beach?
by Tjp on Mar. 26, 2015
I wouldn't risk it with a truck. The ice jam is too deep for a truck. I winched myself out. Especially if it warms up. Bring a skidoo or quad and bring a buddy with you to help you if you get stuck. Good luck!
by mountainman11 on Mar. 24, 2015
Just wondering if a truck would make it on at the provincial park. I'm heading out Saturday. I would appreciate your feedback.
I will still walk on but would like your thoughts on the boat launch conditions please

Got my tags filled out yesterday! Good day out front of the provincial park boat launch in 20' of water. Jaw jacker caught a few jack and a nice pickerel and the rapala airplane jig w minnow head caught the other keeper. High pressure ridge at provincial park.Getting on is a little iffy. Water is building up. Went on at Grandview today. Pressure ridge is about 3 feet high. Water is starting to gather as well.Seen some trucks across the lake towards Mulhurst, so they are getting on there. The eyes and jacks were biting for about an hour from 11:00 to 12:00 Then they just turned off. Was fun while it lasted.

by BiggieB on Mar. 6, 2015
Any luck catch walleye? Still got tags I need to fill!!! Ahhh
by Soiler on Feb. 23, 2015
Was out on Sat. Much easier getting around on the west side of the lake... A lot more snow & surface water on the east sides.
by Mikejulien12 on Feb. 23, 2015
Thanks Bearhunter! I will try that out!
by Soiler on Feb. 21, 2015
Was out yesterday with the 1/2 ton. The warm weather softened up the drifts but could still get around. Some water on the ice now but sat's colder weather should stiffen it all up again.
by Bearhunter52 on Feb. 20, 2015
Hey Mike julian--go to north end of lake in 9-11 ft of water and you will fill your tags in short order. Lots biting. North west of Mulhurst
by Clave on Feb. 20, 2015
As of Monday afternoon a half ton 4X4 was fine. I don't think a 2 wheel drive would be able to go every where but in the normal "ice road" even that would have been fine. The problem was the sun/ice crust that had formed on the top of the snow took some pushing to get through. Other than that you could go any where except up creeks etc. Not sure if much has changed since Monday though. Good luck to you
by WU J on Feb. 20, 2015
You can access at the Provincial Park.
by HookedOnHalo on Feb. 19, 2015
Is there good access around the lake with a 1/2 ton? Any water on the lake or drifts that will keep you limited to the trails? I was wondering if I need to take my quad along.
by Clave on Feb. 19, 2015
I was there on Monday and it was great ice. 20 to 24 inches. As long as you do not drive up a creek etc. you should be fine
by Mikejulien12 on Feb. 18, 2015
How will all of this warm weather affect the ice?? Will it still be safe for a 1/2 ton?
by foothillzman on Feb. 17, 2015

by Mikejulien12 on Feb. 13, 2015
I spent the day on Thursday fishing the drop off in front of the Provincial Park. Early in the day I pulled a nice jack out and then nothing for the next 4 hours! I have been struggling to fill my Walleye tags, has anyone else had success? After my third unsuccessful trip I am ready to give up!

by DC168 on Feb. 11, 2015
As the walleye and pike population rises, the white fish and perch is hard to find. The tag program for walleye and no keeper for less than 1 metre pike will illiminate white fish and perch here. As the food chain broken, eventually, walleye and pike will run out of food and end up eating themself.
by Franky on Feb. 11, 2015
Anyone seeing any whites at Pigeon, if so where and what depth
by Little Guy on Feb. 11, 2015
Comment: I love ice fishing and I live on Pigeon Lake. Please, please don't put poles or logs down holes to mark fishing spots and don't leave anything behind on the ice! We already had one death on the lake we don't need another one because someone on a snow sled run into something you left behind! Thanks
by Captain Jack on Feb. 10, 2015
Drive in off of the Prov Park. Drill hole at the drop off where it goes to 18 ft. (Or where the other trucks are) 😃
Use Minnows on a small jig head. Tie direct to line. You can also use a hook and just a minnow. Let it hit the bottom and small wiggle.
You'll catch mostly walleye and The odd pike.
by Jumboperch13 on Feb. 10, 2015
Hi I have never been to this lake before and I was wondering where is the best place to get on I have a couple of walleye tags that need to be filled and I was also wondering is there a good perch bite?

Crystal springs is on the SW side of the last..... We went out yesterday, did well on tip ups for 'eyes & jacks but weren't able to hook up on the few whites we saw. The few we did have hits from were the most interested in red wire worms....

jerry372... haven't fished pigeon this year ,i was hoping also to get some feed back to the whitefish population. in the past i've fished at mulhurst bay and heard that crystal springs is a good place tho i have not fished there, i believe it is the NE corner of the lake, maybe someone can confirm that.Good luck and let us know how you make out....

Coming out from Edmonton, and have no idea which part of the lake to go to catch some whites. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any info.
by Coolcat on Jan. 29, 2015
Well then where do u catch them and with what hook? I've never caught whites or burbs.
by Soiler on Jan. 28, 2015
I grew up fishing this lake. The only thing I can't seem to find anymore are the perch. The Burb's seem to still do well as well as the whites. The whites have just changed what they do I think. With all the walleye now, they've had to change their feeding habits, just what I believe..... Not saying I have lots of luck with catching em but I do seem em down the hole still.

by Duramax01 on Jan. 21, 2015
Fin Finder...walleye are on a draw system. This means that you have to apply for a "tag" to catch this species in most of the lakes in Alberta. If you've been keeping them in Pigeon Lake without a tag...tsk tsk tsk.

by Riderprider on Dec. 18, 2014
Oh ice was great. 11-13" everywhere.
Fished all day yesterday at the PP. It would have had to pick up a fair amount to be slow. Not sure where all the walleye go that infest that place in open water but they ain't there now.
by fearnofish on Dec. 16, 2014
Fished pigeon all weekend. Got 3 pike, and about 20 walleye. Walleye were hitting mostly at night or just before dark. Pike mostly on the drop off 5-10ft, walleye out at 22' Fished out from the provincial park. Ice is safe, Cracking all day and night, if your going out farther than about 200 yards do some spot checks.. We set up the hut on 8" of ice but 20 feet further out we found a spot only 2" thick. All in all a good weekend out! Medium smelts just off the bottom, natural or green worked best.

Thank you for your interest D.Hansen as to where Parkers Point is.Go directly south-east of the boat launch at the Provincial Park [I suggest trolling as you will more than likely catch a few along the way].The trick is to find the drop off directly off of the point but by reading your previous blogs you will find it and catch plenty! Good luck yo you!
by doylejhansen on Nov. 6, 2014
hey Gloveman, where's Pakers Point on the lake? What did the eight pound walleye hit on, and what technique? cheers doyle
by gloveman on Nov. 6, 2014
As DHansen wrote on Oct 21/14 open water fishing is not done yet! My buddy and myself caught over 70 Walleye today Nov6 off the infamous drop-off' We also caught 2-8 pounders just off of Parkers Point.Shorter days though but still great fishing in a shorter day!
by Dan83 on Oct. 24, 2014
What is the verdict on whitefish and perch on this lake the last few years. I haven't been on Pigeon for quite some time but I was gonna try and come up this year.
by doylejhansen on Oct. 21, 2014
Open water fishing isn't quite finished yet! Myself and a buddy went out to Pigeon Lake on Monday the 20th of October. Of course the weather was off the charts. Fished from 9 to 4 and boated over 100 walleye. My buddy filled his "a" tags" no problem, with a four pounder and a three and 3/4 pound walleye. The three other boats around were catching nothing, so I gave them the magic jigs and the technique, and soon their two boats filled their tags. Interesting story next ... at around three o'clock, a sea doo coming at full speed towards the group of the four boats, including us! I thought what stupid kid at the end of October is out here and in shorts!!?? It is when I saw the shirt/vest and a uniform, some badges and a gun. That's right a game warden. This warden came at full speed and went directly to the boat in the middle of our group. To make a long story short .. the older guy in the boat was charged with failing to tag his walleye(s) as soon as caught (it's the rules) that I know. So when it came to our turn he said do you have any fish to declare ... we said, "we might be over our limit" .... looking at the big cooler, he said let's see ... Dwight then opened the cooler and proudly presented our last tub of minnows, and proudly showed them off ... anyways we had one tagged at the time and everything was cool ... yes he also laughed ..here's the ending ..... asked, "how would you know to come here and right to the boat in the middle of all of us?" He said simple we received a phone call, his off duty buddy, the fourth boat phoned it in! As soon as the game cop showed up the fourth boat (with three people) left and went straight across the lake! If it would of been me, I would of told the other fisherman hey tag that fish, or I will call my off duty buddy!? But that is just me .... cheers ... doyle _

by doylejhansen on Aug. 31, 2014
Fished the lake on both the 30th and the 31st, over 100 fish caught. I would like to start this thread and see what type of positive input comments can be made!?__I believe the tag system should be as follows: class a 55 to 60 cm (1 tag), 50 to 54 cm (1 tag), 45 to 49 cm (2 tags), 40 to 44 cm (2 tags) __That way I think the lake can than start producing 4 - 5 -6 -7 pound walleye, this size would be catch and release, and in 5 years could very be a world wide fishing destination?__I have flown into Saskatchewan resorts, and we caught more and bigger walleye in the last two days at pigeon than those camps on the Church Hill river system!

Took the kids out Sat, 11-3pm, 14 walleye, 1 small pike, 3 large enough to keep (class A tags). We fished the east side, north of Mulhurst 10-15 feet deep. Rapala's and Cotton Cordell's in purple or pink.
I am so impressed with how Pigeon has rebounded, I hope they keep slot size limits. Anyone have any tips on perch?

Undersubscribed licences are different than draws. That's where you'll find the walleye licences now that the draw for them is over. They're first-come-first-served. I haven't had to do it since they changed the system but you can check the albertarelm or mywildalberta websites for a list of available licences and directions on how to reserve the licence so you can buy it. Good luck!

Went out for the evening Mar. 24 and got a few soft bites on a Cicada with a full minnow on, so changed to a small jig with just the head of the minnow. That triggered the bite, caught my slot size b all three tags filled in 10 minutes. Nice after being skunked a couple of times.

by PLH on Mar. 16, 2014
Snap...yeah I guess the fish might be moving in and out. I saw more fish in the Grandview area the last couple times out ( compared the the provincial park). I fished the Prov. Park yesterday...very slow. Moved around...very slow. Only saw 4 whites, 1 burbut, and a small perch from 11am-7pm. 23-10 FOW. I have walleye tags so targeting that fish. Maybe the Park is getting over fished now?No one else was catching...only the odd pike. I will probably move around the lake a bit until the seasons over. I wouldn't mind catching a few nice whites as well as filling my walleye tags. The whites should start moving into shallow water and biting better as the shoreline ice starts melting. Happy fishing...
by Fishingfarmer on Mar. 16, 2014

by Wazz on Mar. 14, 2014
Was thinking of trying an adventure fishing for the "huge whites" at Pigeon this Saturday with elderly parents, but the lake reports this year havent indicated one whitefish being caught all winter at Pigeon. Is it worth the drive, is anyone catching any, if so where abouts, depth, tackle? Whats the ice like, can you get on in the north, east, south, west? Any feedback appreciated, thank you, and great fishing:)
by SNAP on Mar. 13, 2014
That is interesting PLH. Are you basing this on recent experience? I used to fish around Grandview a lot but stopped after the fish seemed to disappear. Have you had good action at Crystal this year?
by PLH on Mar. 11, 2014
Fishing for whites at Pigeon... This time of the year fish in 6-10 feet of water. I was out at crystal springs last week. Saw numerous whites in about 10-12 feet. They are moving into swallow water now (warmer water). You could also try the provincial park (just north of crystal springs/poplar Bay Area). I have always had good luck with a copper wire worm (small)...with a maggot. Make sure to attach your hook to the line so the hook is horizontal. Use line size 6-8 lb...use fluorocarbon leader at least 3ft long. Whites are very nervous and notice anything unnatural in the water. Fluorocarbon line is virtually invisible in the water. When a white is coming to your hook hold it still (don't jig) but turn the hook so the maggot is facing the whites mouth. He should grab it at that point ... Than set the hook gently. You could also try a small brass coloured wetaskwin hook. If using a camera set it at least 8ft away or point it down the hole. Better yet if you spot the whites on camera remove it. Use camera sparingly when fishing whites. Cameras don't seem to both othe fish species... Good luck and have fun with the family. Weather should be very nice.

Slow fishing today at the provincial park. Caught three jack and a burbut (15-20 ft). Didn't see any walleye or whites. A group next to me caught a couple eyes... (all day). One 56cm. went to the lake on Friday after a very slow day at gull lake a couple days before ... you know how it is getting all excited on the drive there, for us 1 1/2/ hours, starting fishing around noon and fished till 5 pm, well not a lot to report, only four fish to the boat and a total of eight hits, fished at the provincial park, north and south, tried all methods, my wife found this a good time to read aloud our fishing journals for the last ten years, at least those reports kept my spirits up ... still should be a great fall fishing ... if you know a kid out there .... take them fishing ..... cheers ..... doyle & Deborah ....

well me a buddy went to the lake on Sunday, the 9th and caught 12 pike 1 to 6 pounds, and about 25 walleye from 45 to 58 cms., also caught two perch on the troll about nine inches/ 1/2 pound , we launched at the provincial campground and we fished down by the no fishing buoys down by the houses to the north of the boat launch, we got lucky and marked on big bait ball, and trolled in circles from the bait ball to 100 yards out, lots of fish pike perch and walleye, couple of the walleye burping up minnows, we trolled exclusively rapala minnow raps in the mr 9 size, fished from 8 to 6 ..... always a great time .... should be some spectacular fall fishing ..... cheers ..... doyle ..... no we were not fishing in the no fishing area ....

How is the algae bloom on pigeon lake?
by PlatinumBarMan on Aug. 21, 2013
Was out last Sunday from late morning to mid afternoon (yes, probably not the best time for fishing) but still ended up with around 50 nice sized walleye. Caught em mostly on slip bobbers but also a few jigging and trolling. Tried to stay out of the water as much as possible with the blue-green algae warnings.
by iFish Guest on Aug. 18, 2013
got back from pigeon and it wasn't one of those days we are used of having, me and a buddy arrived a 8:30 am and fished to 4 pm, went to the provincial park and tried all methods and I mean all methods we got around 30 fish, my buddy caught 20 and I caught 10, a great day but picked off a fish here there and everywhere .... bloom was in full splendor and did not effect fishing and we are not in the hospital lol ... here's a huge tackle tip for all pike and walleye fisherpersons .... THIS LURE WILL OUT FISH ANYTHING THAT YOU HAVE IN YOU BOX, WHILE ON THE TROLL, WE HAVE RUN INDEPENDANT TESTS OURSELVES .... THIS LURE OUT FISHES OTHER LURES 5 TO 1 .... IT IS MADE BY RAPALA AND IS THE MINNOW RAP PATTERN IN THE MR11 OR MR 9 SIZES, THIS IS THE THE COLOR, AND THIS IS WHAT MAKES THIS LURE SPECTACULAR, , THIS COLOR IS HARD AS HEC TO FIND .... BUT IF YOU CAN FIND THE COLOR BUY AS MANY AS YOU CAN, AROUND TEN DOLLARS ... RAPALA LISTS THIS COLOR AS 'BLEEDING ORIGINAL SHAD' [BOSD] ..... cheers doyle .... ps the lake isn't closed just the warning is out for the bloom ....

by iFish Guest on Aug. 10, 2013
your advise was the best ever, went back to the provincial park, and followed the advise that was given by this website, fished from 9 to 5, caught about 30 on the troll, and with jigs/minnows with double tails, in white or yellow, that was another 35 fish, and with the minnows, the biggest walleye of the day, 50 to 58 cms, around 4,5 pounds, had to stop weighing the fish, since the scale is in the bottom of the lake, going to roll the dice and fill the tags (50 cm) in the fall maybe they will have 2 months to grow another pound or so .... again thank you for the advise ..... cheers .... doyle ....

Fished the provincial park on Saturday. Never started until 1pm. Very slow, no bits and never say a fish. A couple guys caught three eyes about 4pm and nothing after that. They caught them in about 12ft near a drop-off at the park. I think the weather was effecting the bit. I plan to head out this Friday or Saturday. I think with better weather the fishing should improve. Hoping to catch some whites. I saw some about a week ago in shallow water, about 6ft. One had to be 3-4lbs. This will be the last weekend before close. Good luck.

by Kelvin on Dec. 23, 2012
The regs on this lake are very interesting. 25 cm perch only? 100 cm jack only? They might as well make this a catch & release fishery.

Hmm then howcome on here it says may 15 till march 31 the season is open april 1st till may 14 closed
Lake is open april 1 to April 16 check the regs folks.
Catch and release or not u can't fish when the season is closed!! A magazine u should consider reading is the 2011 and 2012 fishing synopsis. It is loaded with tons of information like when the fishing seasons open and close. Or better yet use this great app and check it out. What u r doing isn't catch and release it is called illegal fishing.
Hey Zen, the lake is CLOSED to fishing after March 31 period. Follow the rules man!

by RapalaRoland on Feb. 18, 2012
Was out 2 day was unreal walleye fishing caught over a dozen!!!! Smallest was 2.5 lbs and biggest around 8. My buddy had walleye tags and we filled them no problem.I agree with the walleye 2 b kept r under 43 cm but 2 take a 100 cm pike makes no sense as those r the big spawners in the lake.I'd way rather eat a 4 lb fish and not take 5000 fish outta the lake by keeping a big fish. Screwy regs on that lake. Other than that was a great day
