Imagine what it was like before they implemented the public access law. Just keep fishing there. Stick it in their eye. Seen big ones come outta there before. Beautiful lake. Feel free to remind ANYONE about cleaning up. Butts too buddy

I do like the area and close to the city. But amazed on how the locals don't want people here yet they walk there dogs on the lake and leave the dogs crap all over the lake and some ride there atvs all over

Ice Report: 6 in
Went from the public launch on the NE through the narrows. Ice was 5 to 8 inches the whole way of good, black ice. Could probably drive a vehicle out already, but it is for sure ready for a tent of 5 people at least. No action at the NE corner of the island, but people were catching all around the lake. Just make sure you are in 6-12 feet of water (check the depth chart)!

Since early May have made 18 trips and hooked over 250 'bows (all C & R), with many in the 18 to 20 inch range. Now time to give them a rest 'cause water is getting too warm!

Fished here a few times in February but nothing landed. Accessed at NE end and worked around that end. Perhaps we are in the wrong area...did have a realtor out there show me a pic of a couple of huge trout ( easily over 20") that he says came out of spring thru the ice this year...any help appreciated

@northernyaker it was defiantly not black spot desease. The bump I am referring to looked more like the bump from old cartoons when they got hit in the head.

Olive wooly bugger with brown marabou tail and gold bead head. Hint: They were in 7 to 9 ft depth of water and wanted it ripped!

by sedubius on Jul. 22, 2016

@flyguy what were you using? I tried 6 or 8 diffrent flies/techniques and didn't get a thing.

I netted 7 fish on Spring yesterday, form 12 to 18 inches, but didn't see any spots. Was vary common to see these on all Muir Lake trout when the water got warm. Won't be going out to Spring for a while now, water temp. at surface reached 72F

by NorthernYaker on Jul. 19, 2016

It's called neascus or black spot disease, quite common in earthen bottom lakes, everything I've read says that fish are safe for consumption, although from any trout water around here it's gonna taste like the muddy bottom

Fisherman 77, there is public access at northeast corner of lake. as you arrive off the highway proceed west until you see an outdoor ice rink. turn left downhill.access is to your right. there is public parking for about 4-5 vehicles. I was just as frustrated my first time.

I was there today first time. Tried to find access to the lake from south side of the lake but absolutely impossible. All cabins and houses (new constructions) block the way. RV park was closed for the winter and no access for the public. Anyone knows how to get down to the lake?

Hookline&sinker77 I am new to the site. Would you kindly give me more detail of where you can park? I am coming from Edmonton. Which side of lake is the boat launch? South side or E.W.or N. Is it where RV park?

There are lots of walking trails on to the lake. No truck access at all. Pack light. On the map where it says boat launch is flat sobyou can pull a sleigh. Further up the road has a stair case ( steep )

Can anyone confirm or deny there is public access to this lake in the winter? Drive a truck on the ice? Any info would be greatly appreciated, looking to take the kids out but don't want to drive them out to a lake I can't get on to.

I went to the recreation area on the east side of the lake. There is easy access from shore to the lake for fly fishing most of the way around. I didnt catch anything on the fly rod but some fellow anglers were having some decent success with a pickeral jig of marshmallows and worms, just small ones though
