Fished here a few times in February but nothing landed. Accessed at NE end and worked around that end. Perhaps we are in the wrong area...did have a realtor out there show me a pic of a couple of huge trout ( easily over 20") that he says came out of spring thru the ice this year...any help appreciated

by Tjp on Mar. 6, 2017
Had the lake to myself most of the day yesterday. Jawjacker outperformed me again. Caught a few. Kept a nice fat 15" for the frying pan. Anyone catching Anything bigger than 15" at this lake?
by Tjp on Feb. 5, 2017
Decent day yesterday 6 trout, only one on jaw jacker. Rest on camera jigging tungsten jigs with powerboat. Average size 12-14". All released to grow up for anothe lucky fisherman. Tight lines!

How's the fishing? How much ice? Any update would be appreciated! Cheers

@northernyaker it was defiantly not black spot desease. The bump I am referring to looked more like the bump from old cartoons when they got hit in the head.
by Mr Flyguy on Jul. 22, 2016
Olive wooly bugger with brown marabou tail and gold bead head. Hint: They were in 7 to 9 ft depth of water and wanted it ripped!
by sedubius on Jul. 22, 2016
@flyguy what were you using? I tried 6 or 8 diffrent flies/techniques and didn't get a thing.
I netted 7 fish on Spring yesterday, form 12 to 18 inches, but didn't see any spots. Was vary common to see these on all Muir Lake trout when the water got warm. Won't be going out to Spring for a while now, water temp. at surface reached 72F
by NorthernYaker on Jul. 19, 2016
It's called neascus or black spot disease, quite common in earthen bottom lakes, everything I've read says that fish are safe for consumption, although from any trout water around here it's gonna taste like the muddy bottom
by sedubius on Jul. 19, 2016
@Northpks I caught one at star that had the same thing. No idea what it is though.
by Mr Flyguy on Jul. 11, 2016

Caught my limits today but let then all go, every fish has small lumps on their body, don't know what they are. Anyone knows what those lumps are? are the fish safe to eat? Thanks
Off HWY 16X to Spring Lake on Park Land Rd. Go south on Range Road 15, West on Bauer Ave until you see the hockey ring turn left than first right. you will see a locked gate, walking access ONLY
by barrykoy on Jul. 8, 2016

by NorthernYaker on Jul. 8, 2016
Simply not true there is public walk up access at North east corner....
by gch on Jul. 7, 2016

Is this lake still frozen over?
by Pikster on Mar. 25, 2016
Fisherman 77, there is public access at northeast corner of lake. as you arrive off the highway proceed west until you see an outdoor ice rink. turn left downhill.access is to your right. there is public parking for about 4-5 vehicles. I was just as frustrated my first time.
by fisherman77 on Mar. 4, 2016
I was there today first time. Tried to find access to the lake from south side of the lake but absolutely impossible. All cabins and houses (new constructions) block the way. RV park was closed for the winter and no access for the public. Anyone knows how to get down to the lake?
by fisherman77 on Feb. 23, 2016
Hookline&sinker77 I am new to the site. Would you kindly give me more detail of where you can park? I am coming from Edmonton. Which side of lake is the boat launch? South side or E.W.or N. Is it where RV park?
by Hookline&sinker77 on Feb. 18, 2016
There are lots of walking trails on to the lake. No truck access at all. Pack light. On the map where it says boat launch is flat sobyou can pull a sleigh. Further up the road has a stair case ( steep )
by bobdep on Feb. 7, 2016

yes some info on how to fish this lake in the winter would be helpful, (access points or where can a person park closer than main area
by bkal on Jan. 29, 2016
Can anyone confirm or deny there is public access to this lake in the winter? Drive a truck on the ice?
Any info would be greatly appreciated, looking to take the kids out but don't want to drive them out to a lake I can't get on to.

lots of trout! many bigger ones too! 18" range common. not great eating quality tho.
by braebbackribs on Jun. 23, 2015
I went to the recreation area on the east side of the lake. There is easy access from shore to the lake for fly fishing most of the way around. I didnt catch anything on the fly rod but some fellow anglers were having some decent success with a pickeral jig of marshmallows and worms, just small ones though
by Albertabruin on Mar. 4, 2015
Went out to the Spring lake today, not even a bit , I tried may types of bait and depths .

by l.simps on Apr. 12, 2014
Hows the ice out there now, any flood water? Are the fish still bitting?
by Pikster on Feb. 15, 2014
Water is smelling very fowl since the coldspell. Not a single nibble. Hope the fish are okay
by PLH on Feb. 7, 2014
Ice Report: 20 inGood hard ice...20 inches. Stay clear of the aeration systems. Designated area with good signage. You can't miss it.
Fished Spring today...got some bits near the aeration systems ( about 100 meters away in 11ft. We Caught 5 nice sized trout about 13-14inchs. Numerous bits all late afternoon. Hard to access this lake. No ATV use allowed. Limited parking. Be prepared to walk a quarter to half km (at least). Not to bad walking with limited snow but if we get some significant amounts it will be challenging. Nice lake...about 20 inches of good ice.
by Pikster on Jan. 27, 2014
To last entry check my December 27 posting for access to lake. Area is at Northeast area of lake.
by iFish Guest on Jan. 19, 2014
Is this not a public lake? I drove around the whole lake and could not find an access point that I could park at. Really disappointed. Waisted a lot of time and money. Lake looks beautiful and gets excellent feed back, what a shame you cant get on there.
by PlatinumBarMan on Jan. 13, 2014
Saw about 25-30 Rainbows when I was there Jan 1. Tried a bunch of different lures and baits only got 2 on the ice, both with a super tiny jig with rubber black and white minnow and a fake maggot.
by 95ranger on Jan. 13, 2014
Was out on Jan. 12 with a friend that caught a nice trout. They are very active when you get to them in your area. Caught on south side of island.

What is the best bait for rainbows on spring lake ?
by Pikster on Dec. 27, 2013
Rainbows were very pickey on Thursday, only managed to get 1 decent 16" rest were 6-8". Lots of floodwater between layers of snow and ice. At first I Thought I was going to go through lol. Beautiful day though. To last writer, as you approach out door skating ring take 1'st left down the hill. As soon as you reach bottom, parking is on the left, lake access is straight across. Look for iron gate. Snow is cleared up to lake. Happy fishing, watch for air raiding spots on opposite side of lake!
by Pikster on Dec. 26, 2013
Ice Report: 7 in5-7 inches good ice, rest is floodwater. Safe to walk on. Drive on is not recommended. Very slushy in spots.
by iFish Guest on Dec. 22, 2013
How do you access the lake?
by Redheaded Sanchez on Dec. 8, 2013
Ice was good south of the island, caught good numbers of trout all fair size, bite was very light

Heading out to spring lake yesterday afternoon with success!!! There's 4 inch ice and 4 inch slush ice that's frozen solid so about 9 inches we measured. Leap frogged holes from 5.8 to 12 FOW hooked up with the rainbows in all depths, no perch what so ever. Biggest bow was 22 inches and smallest being 6 inches lol rest were between 14-17. First time not catching a single perch there. Cheers
by iFish Guest on Nov. 18, 2013
Here the ice is g2g 4 inch solid ice +4 inch slush that's freezing over night.

RV park was closed for day use. Had a difficult time getting to the lake.

Opps. The previous comment was intended for Jackfish Lake
Caught one Walleye from the shore. Nice little lake. $20 parking fee is annoying though 😕
by Pikster on Mar. 4, 2013
I fished the deep area southwest of the island about 12-14 feet. No perch, got 3 rainbows under 10 inches. The depth chart shows 4 deep zones, as for the rest consistantly 5 feet. wonder how long before this lake dries out.
by iFish Guest on Feb. 26, 2013
Winter kill didnt see one fish! When there was hundreds a few weeks ago. Water smells horrible like sour gas. What a shame.
by Vanisleguy on Feb. 12, 2013
I went on February 3rd and caught 20 perch and 5 trout on a small jig with a maggot. The biggest trout was 14" and the biggest perch was 10". Then I went on February 10th. Tried lots of places. The perch were right near the ice (sign of low oxygen) and there were no trout swimming. Saw 12 trout winter killed on the bottom with camera. Went home with not a single bite. Perch were very lethargic.
by jposavec on Feb. 3, 2013
4 8-12" trout in 2 hours, no perch interested
by Pikster on Jan. 26, 2013
This sounds like a well kept lake. Based on info provided, having a einter air raider is a great idea. My compliments to the person(s) who came up with the idea. I wish more ponds were looked after in the same manner. Im definitely bringing the kids to give it a shot. thanks to those for the feedback. It saves a wasted trip. Happy n safe fishing!

Does anyone know how thick the ice is?
by knjocd on Jan. 10, 2013
Park 50 yrds south of the skating rink. Tobogann your gear on the lake. Great lake for perch and trout. Awesome fishing. This is a public lake belongning to all Albertans!!!!
by Shutdownbypass on Jan. 7, 2013
Is there public access to this lake that does not involve paying fees, owning a cottage there, joining a private club, or giving a shoe shine to a local property owner? I am trying to scout local trout lakes for future trips. Lets not forget my tax dollars are paying for those 'bows. Access info would be much appreciated and happy fishing!

This lake is garbage, for the amount they try to controll it, there is no freedom to fish!!
by Boognish on May. 22, 2011
Stocked May long weekend with 10.000 rainbows. Lots of action. They do air rait it during the winter so there are some 2 to 3 lbs in there but tough to find.
