Bert: Appreciate your reply, Did try fishing at the South end and landed a 22" pike and lost one. Under size limit, so released back into water. Lots of people fishing but not many fish caught. Another time, my fishing buddy caught '2' about the same size and released them. Seems like most are around that size.

For Artemis ... live in Chestermere and they have numerous rinks for skating near the bridge as well as on the west side. For fun I cut a hole in the ice today and it was 12 inches thick; on the west side. Typically ice fishing is at the south end of the lake so it should be great for ice but not sure for fish!

Hello Robotics! We usually ride our bikes on the pathway to the blue pedestrian bridge over the Canal inlet which is on the southwest-ish corner of the lake. Any spot from shore on either side of the bridge (North or South) works. Usually congested on the weekend but mid-week it's quiet. We use a Jack Rig and bait it with minnows or smelts. You'll see all sorts of methods used and if the Pike are hitting the fun never ends.

Hi Bert, great to see that you and your wife have caught lots of fish at Chestermere lake! I am new to fishing and have not had any luck so far. I would greatly appreciate it if you would let me know where the spot that you were fishing at is. Tight lines!

Spring is here and with COVID it appears that since Opening Day Chestermere Lake has hosted a full house of shore Anglers! Today we were the only ones out for the first few hours and then one other person arrived. My wife and I have been out twice and both times had a great fishing day! Today in the morning the weather was nice with a bit of sunshine and hardly any wind. The Pike were nibbling and you had to be patient to entice them to take the bait. We landed 20 with 6 bigger/keeper sized (in the 3 & 4lb range) and a lot of smaller aggressive ones! ALL C&R to live to see another day!

Easy to pull the ice gear out to this lake. I've gone twice now and managed to get quite a few pike between 20-24" 15 inches of ice down on the south side in spots

The City of Chestermere checks ice thickness once a week in various spots and posts it on their website. Google chestermere ice thickness and it will come up. Will probably be the most accurate source for ice thickness in this lake throughout the winter. They tested last in Nov 22 and have anywhere from 6cm to 12cm.

I was out yesterday. South end. Good black ice under the snow. Drilled 20 holes our to 11 feet of water. Ice was consistently between 5 and 5 1/2 inches.

does anyone know how the ice is out here

Chestermere definitely has ice! Doesn't look uniform but probably an inch or two but I did see a lady skating on the ice near the bridge. After seeing this brave (?) or crazy lady, I decided to take a short walk out on a known low depth area and it was okay. Obviously not quite ready for ice fishing and not sure about the south end where everyone seems to ice fish throughout the Winter. Sharpen your Auger blades!

There's no one there because most people know Chestermere is packed with Calgarians yanking out fish all summer long (mainly from the shore). This means there no (or very few) big ones in there, and sometimes the small ones also hard to catch. If you're going to invest the time in ice fishing, there are better options.

by 11bluenose on Jan. 17, 2018

They partly drain the lake but there is still lots of fishing if you like 20-26 inch pike. Get a lake depth map and look for depths over ten feet in the main lake and you’ll be good to go for ice fishing. I get lots of pike ice fishing in 8-12 feet.

Northern man, i think the reason why theres no one ice fishing is because they drain the lake? Please correct me if im wrong... anyone??
