Does anyone know how the ice looks? Planning a trip this weekend
by Norman68 on Mar. 12, 2016
Thanks again for the info, Cpt. Hook. Six is definitely a lot, my pal and I only saw one during two trips there. The ice condition is a concern now, not sure if I go tomorrow
by Cpt. Hook on Mar. 12, 2016
I am not sure what the ice is like this weekend maybe someone can give an update. Spotted walleye on a camera near an island about 500 Metres North and a bit West from boat launch. I have heard it referred to as bird island. We were fishing in about 6 Metres of water (give or take) and about 10 metres off the shore. We had one yank bait off the hook, (saw it on the camera)but that was as close as we got to catching one. The "Lots" I referred to were six eyes, which, to us, was quite a lot because we have fished here several times now, but this was the first time we saw ANY walleye...and 6 is WAY more than none so, to us, it was lots!
Cpt. Hook, thanks for the update!_I still have two walleye tags since I had no luck catching one this year. Can you kindly tell me where did you see the "lots of walleyes"? I may try my last ice fishing tomorrow.
by Cpt. Hook on Mar. 11, 2016
I find your lack of faith disturbing. Next time you subject other readers to your negativity, try backing it up with some facts--none of which you had to help anyone out. The ice within a half Klick of Kinbrook Island was 19" thick, sorry for the slight exaggeration--I did say "About". As anyone should know, ice conditions may vary with depth and temperature. I admit I assumed anyone reading my report would understand two things: a) that the word "about" meant I was not giving the exact measurement b) that with the warm temperatures any vehicle on varied ice conditions would be crazy. There were about fifteen (I didn't count them so again, this is an estimate) other people on the ice that can confirm my measurement...as opposed to your--comment. I can agree with one thing you said, but I think people get hurt or killed by assuming anything. My report was for anyone who wanted to go fishing on Sunday and if you don't like ye can walk the plank matie!
by Fishtracker on Mar. 6, 2016
24" of ice?? I was there last week and the ice was not even close to 24" This is how people can get hurt or even killed by assuming ice conditions based on bogus reports like this one.
by Cpt. Hook on Mar. 5, 2016
Lake should be renamed Gust-a-lot Lake...Ice was about 24 inches, splotchy but fine. Saw a group go out about 3/4 the way across. Caught a couple pike (they'll be there for you tomorrow) and saw lots of walleye on camera but none were hungry.
by Cpt. Hook on Mar. 4, 2016
To reeder: I called the Husky (sells bait) they were not sure about the ice, but said someone was buying bait today so I guess I'm going to try...four hours and a lot of gas if I can't get on the ice :(
by reeder on Mar. 4, 2016
Was wondering same thing??
Thinking of driving out for some ice fishing...but wasn't sure there was any ice to fish on, anyone know how thick it is?

I'm out here today. Ice is still plenty thick for walking - about 13 to 16 inches in most places I've drilled. Caught and released 4 pike already today. Can't seem to find any walleye. Fun fishing with a few rain showers.
by reeder on Feb. 26, 2016

Hey everyone, wondering if anyone has been here lately? What's the ice look like? Planning on doing a trip this weekend. Willing to share some good spots
by Keith Ebbs on Feb. 2, 2016
Go to the Park on the east side then head north to the islands; on the ice I fish 8 to 15 feet just west of the second isle.
I am 62 and have caught several hundred walleye in my life in 4 provinces...my best ever was in Newell in 2015 at just over 9 lbs; I really, really like this lake. Easy pike and slow but huge walleye...
Big walleye but few of them.

Is this lake usually slow fishing or am I just not finding the sweet spots? I've made a few trips the past year, both open & ice, and have always left wishing the fishing was better. Any advice would be much appreciated! Ive never had this much trouble scouting for fishing spots before.

Hey Habfan I don't see anything wrong with your question. This is why their are apps like this to help people. Ignore those ignorant users. To bad their are people like that. If you need help or have questions I will help you.
by Habfan on Aug. 17, 2013
Thanks ! Sorry for asking. I'll know better next time !,
by Grunter on Aug. 14, 2013
HABFAN maybe do some research first before getting tags ;-)
There are lots of videos on YouTube and plenty of reading available on the internet.
Trial and error is the only way you can figure out which techniques, setups, lures and patterns will work for you.
A lot of people will try jigging or trolling with a spoon or spinner.

Thanks for the help ! Lol
