Went out fishing today didn't have much luck for the morning and the rest of the day. On the way out some people told me that Pink power bait and anything pink will work in the pond. I tried cheese slice worms and shrimp and nothing no bites. I drilled a hole by shore and it's 24" thick and I drilled another hole near the middle of the lake and it's 18" thick so if you stick closer to the shore it's the safest to go around the pond you'll be fine.

Fished this dam for 11 hours, 1 fish. Very dissapointing day, way overfished. The gophers enjoyed the bait more then any fish there. If you enjoy fishing this is your spot, if you enjoy catching continue driving.

by Fishman#1 on May. 17, 2014

by iFish Guest on May. 14, 2014
Normally fishing is really good this time of year with hungry over winter fish and newly stocked 10" trouts smashing spoons with utter abandon. However, this year I have not seen neither one of them. My guess is winter kill was heavy and they havn't stocked the bigger 10" trout so far. I did see schools of smaller 5" trouts crusing the shallows along the bank. Fishing should pick up once the 8-10" trout are stocked in large numbers.
For me, I take the Hwy 54 west from Hwy 2 and drive to town of Spruce View. From there I take the road south to DS. Once you get to stop sign go strait until you get to DSTrout Pond and camp grounds gravel access road. Most effective way catch trout is bottom fish with power bait. Small spoons in 1/8 to 1/5 oz in brass and fire orange colour also works well in spring.
by Fishman#1 on May. 14, 2014
Went last night and the fish weren't biting at all I was fly fishing and spinning but still nothing was working

I plan on going to the pond in a day or two. I have a few questions?
1. Any easy directions to the pond?
2. What can some of you guys recommend I use for bait?
I'm very new to fishing
by iFish Guest on May. 13, 2014
I went fishing yesterday evening and fishing was very slow. Didn't see any of the over winter trout. I did see a small school of 5" newly stocked rainbows but they were too small and were not in biting mode for some reason. Even guys who were bottom fishing with power bait were having no luck. A few trout I saw caught were 5" newly stocked trout from the shallows. Nothing bigger than that for the two hours I was there.
by Fishman#1 on May. 12, 2014
Did anyone go fishing yet today? If so where the fish biting?

by iFish Guest on May. 8, 2014
Ice is off, but a massive winter kill. Saw several hundred dead suckers floating along the bank everywhere. Starting to stink. Unless they clean up the mess, it's unlikely yo be stocked in time for the long weekend.

Subject: Fishery restriction on Red Deer River &tributaries
If you are having difficulty viewing this email properly, please click here:
Message from Alberta Fish & Wildlife Division
Fishery restriction on Red Deer River and tributaries
This email is to inform anglers that starting August 7, 2012, fishing upstream of Dickson Dam on the Red Deer River and its tributaries will be restricted to catch-and-release only for the remainder of the season.
A zero harvest restriction is in place as a precautionary measure, as government experts will be conducting a population sampling program to determine if there were any impacts to fish stocks in the waterways as a result of a pipeline spill in early June.
Anglers will not be allowed to harvest fish upstream of the Dickson Dam, including Gleniffer Reservoir and Dickson Trout Pond. The area includes the main-stem of the Red Deer River from Gleniffer Lake to the Banff National Park boundary, and all flowing tributary waters.
Angler harvest in the affected area is still permitted in Burnstick Lake and in the following stocked trout lakes and ponds:
• Beaver Lake,
• Dormer Lake,
• Eagle Lake,
• Birch Lake, and
• Yellowhead Lake.
Specific regulations still apply, which can be found in the Alberta 2012 Sportfishing Regulations.
More information, including maps of the affected area, will be available after 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 3 at www.mywildalberta.ca

Also can ppl pass this on so no one gets themselves in trouble with the fishery act and post it under other lakes to for ppl to see
Its catch and release only for remainder of season. For upstream of Dickson dam and red deer river and tributaries also includes the trout pond. I very strongly suggest reading a article issued lately that just about all bodies of water are under this condition cause of conducting population sampling program to see what impact that the oil spill had on central Alberta's water ways. Check out this at www.industrymailout.com/industry/view.aspx?id=383112&q=489447534&qz=e4b18f.

Probably the biggest stocked pond in central Alberta. Trolling from a boat best, fishing from shore also good. Rainbows range in size from about 8 inches to over 30 inches. The large rainbows, are most likely retired brood hens.
