by jdmwapiti on Mar. 14, 2017
littlespoon yes you can.
by Littlespoon686 on Mar. 11, 2017
I'm curious if anyone can tell me if you can go from the campsite/revien hall over to where the ice shacks are? The last few times we've fished we've driver frome mayerthorpe all the way around onto the highway and that way but iv noticed trucks coming and going out the other way opposite to us. So if anyone could let me know that would be great it would turn our hour and some trip into like 40 min. And I must say we're new to the area and this place is a great place to keep someone on there Toes! Excellent fishing.
by Wizardca on Mar. 10, 2017
Any ideas about fishing/accessing the lake from the boat launch? Thanks so much!
by Stamps14 on Mar. 5, 2017
Thanks John. We found a great place. Caught 62 pike and a couple of burbot. We took rr110 and found the shacks
by JohnJack on Mar. 5, 2017
Look back on the comments and you'll find directions to a good spot.. I caught a couple of 5.5 pounders there and a bunch of too small ones.

I had a great day catching hammer handle size Pike.
No keepers but never a dull moment out there.
by pikeslayer512 on Feb. 23, 2017
We caught them on the same spot, we actually stayed on that same spot the whole time. I've seen other people catching them too and it was the middle of the day. We got lucky, I guess..
by Crown on Feb. 22, 2017
Hey pikeslayer, did you catch the burbs where you were catching the like, or did you move to the mouth of the river? Also were they in the dark? Thanks
by Jawad on Feb. 21, 2017
by pikeslayer512 on Feb. 21, 2017
I'll stay close to where all the ice fishing shacks are, it's not hard to find. You'll see it when you get on the lake. Good luck and have fun!
by Jawad on Feb. 20, 2017
Also since it is a huge lake (or at least for me), do you recommend any good spot?
pikeslayer512 thanks for feedback. I will go on saturday as starting sunday there is snowfall that will last for a week almost. I will come from Edson and as per my understanding i will take exit of range road 110 (north).
by pikeslayer512 on Feb. 20, 2017
I've seen a few cars on the lake last weekend so I don't think you'll have trouble getting to location. Not sure if I'm going Saturday or Sunday but I if you're coming from edmonton, take highway 16 west, right at range road 110, and when you hit the T- intersection you hang right again and just follow the road and it will take you to the lake. Good luck and have fun!
Hi, I am planning to go to Chip lake on 25th. pikeslayer512 are you going there on saturday as well? any chance we can hook up? I have never been to Chip lake and not sure about directions. Do you think i can reach lake in a sedan. thanks
You're welcome brokedown! We will be back again this coming weekend and hopefully as good as last weekend. Keep Those rod bent and enjoy the outdoor!

Had an amazing day today with my wife and my son, caught probably close to a hundred pike and top it off with six burbot. Weather was beautiful with just about 20 inches of ice, everybody on the lake were having a great time. And yes every single pike went back to the water for the other kids and adult to enjoy catching.
by brokedown on Feb. 18, 2017
I wanna take the kids out Monday any reports. Last time we went it was slow
by Motobenson on Feb. 10, 2017
Can you have a open fire on the lake without a fire pit by just burning on the ice or do you need to have it burning in a portable fire pit?
by Fishing2016 on Jan. 31, 2017
How's the ice out here, also where do I go, to get on the lake? Thinking of heading out there, this weekend.

see you family day weekend.!
We dont catch 50 or 60 everytime we go its more like about 10 or 15 all day between everyone. its a slow year so far but its a convienient lake i think thats why everyone goes. as for winterkill the lake goes for miles if u were a fish wouldnt u swim to oxygen?
by Happy happy on Feb. 11, 2016
Ya I'm not a biologist either, but I've fished this lake for 20 years, never seen it like this before. I've been out half dozen times this winter and not 1 bite. Not sure what has happened. I've never none this lake to winter kill. I have always caught fish in past years.
by valve god on Feb. 11, 2016
This is the lowest I have seen this lake in years. I have summer/winter fished Chip for years. The drought we had last summer really made the level drop and helped the weed growth also.
by Park the shark on Feb. 11, 2016
Ahh good thing you are such an expert brokedown. Didn't realize you were a environmental scientist that has studied inland bodies of water your whole life. I'm sure Alberta wildlife will be consulting with you and getting your approval on all changes pertaining to Alberta lakes going forward.
by brokedown on Feb. 8, 2016
Flowing water has very little to do with winter kill. I am done talking to a dead horse
Your right I have no idea!! The outlet isn't what needs to be open right now
I catch fish every time I go there. That being maybe twice a year. The kids have a great time. Pretty sure it's not fished out
by Park the shark on Feb. 8, 2016
Brokedown, this lake has a river flowing in and out, the outlet never freezes because it flows to fast. If you think this lake winter kills you are completely wrong. Hard concept indeed
by brokedown on Feb. 4, 2016
Don't get me wrong I don't agree with some people keeping all they can everyday
Fat cause there healthy and full of eggs
by Linesman on Feb. 4, 2016
Caught some really fat pike today. Put all the fish back in the lake to die of winterkill.
by brokedown on Feb. 3, 2016
Fished out? Ok
This lake doesn't get a lot of summer fishing because it's so weedy and shallow. So for 3 months of ice it gets fished.
This lake can winterkill so if you want to c&r that's good if you want to keep 3 that's ok too. Or let them all winterkill and go to waste. Hard concept
by Timmer on Feb. 1, 2016
Agreed, I have no idea what the idea behind 3 no size limit is!!
by Park the shark on Feb. 1, 2016
Congrats, another lake fished out. Everybody should continue keeping every single fish you catch
by david23 on Jan. 30, 2016
Fished off the island for 8 hours and not a single bite! Would not recommend

by Mr Fishermen on Jan. 24, 2016
Are the lingkod starting to bit yet there??
by Timmer on Jan. 23, 2016
Yet another 3 hours at chip and not a bite. I did see a couple tiny pike caught in 6" of water at the river mouth. 20 trucks in a 30 yard radius.
by pikeslayer512 on Jan. 11, 2016
How's fishing here now? Are the pike starting to bite? Last time we were out we didn't even get a nibble, hopefully it's starting to bite now.
by Timmer on Jan. 6, 2016
Not sure I understand the no size limit and 3 per person idea for pike. Maybe that's why it's slow, getting fished out? What's the theory behind these regs?
by Fish On !! on Jan. 5, 2016
Wife caught 2 on Jan 2nd and 3 on Jan 3rd. Starting to bite a bit now.
by Timmer on Jan. 2, 2016

by 75ford on Jul. 16, 2012
No depth ... Bring your weed wacker ... 3 hrs on the lake with 3 other ppl and caught nothing but salad and almost bombed by the gulls ....
by Skeptical on Jun. 30, 2012
This might be a good lake, but good luck getting a boat on it. The locals have destroyed the boat launch to keep wake boaters out I think. You need a boat that you can carry on to the water in order to fish here.
by Deevo on Apr. 4, 2012
Hey Kevin think you need to check the regs yourself jbefore judging everyone on what size fish they are keeping , they may not be up to your size standards but they most likely were legal because there is no size limit .
by Fishhunter5 on Mar. 20, 2012
Stay away from the crowds and the fishing is better caught six Burbot Sunday afternoon and some really good pike.
by bon&gary on Mar. 19, 2012
We just got off the phone with an avid fisherman from Chip Lake. He stated that the Ling (Burbot) are biting and people are starting to get their limits. People are still able to drive all over the lake is just a bit rough and a bit slushy in spots. We are heading out tonight so I will post tomorrow regarding the outcome.
by bon&gary on Mar. 16, 2012
As I was saying...have heard of four being caught this year. According to fish and game the burbot limit will go to 2 or possibly none as of March 31st.
Last Saturday I caught a burbot at about 9:25 pm at the mouth. There is a few deep spots. Very thick nice sized bur bot and early In the morning we got a couple 6-7 pound jacks. All on Jack fish belly. The burbot have been slow-haveheard

Kevin I think you were also concerned with people who were greedy and took more than they needed, my family took only enough for a meal, and put the rest back for future fishing

Ace - thanks for clarification re: size. My mistake!!!
by Ace on Feb. 20, 2012
Had a great day fishing caugh lots of fish, everyone on the lake was enjoying the action, as for the size limit ab regs. pg 38 states no size restriction. The only disturbance was the idiots in the trucks doing donuts and racing on the ice.

I left today gobsmacked at how many people were keeping all the vastly undersized pike. We caught 8 in 4 hrs, but zero were legal. Didn't seem to bother everyone else around us. The water's murky so my kids can't watch fish, but the action's entertaining - just wish I could keep one!!! [LEGALLY]
We were using some fake minnows on treble hooks to good effect, but the odd bigger onesothers were catching seemed to be caught on spoons.
Thanks all for the tips on getting there, where to go, how to get on, etc. Appreciate the sharing.

31 pike between four of us in three hours yesterday. 8 more in 1.5 hours today. They're hungry... one hit so hard it broke my rod! 32" long, weighed 6.4 pounds. Almost 3' of ice.
To get on, take Leaman Road (Range Rd 110) north from highway, turn right at T intersection, and you'll see the access not far down.

Where do you get on the lake? Any where a person shouldn't drive out there

South side of the big island yesterday, couldn't keep the pike off the hook. Most were 50-60 cm, but a few guys caught some bigger ones. Jigs or spoons with a chunk of bait worked great. 75 cm of ice, give or take.
