Got out for an hour Saturday with my daughter shore fishing and we caught a nice 13%u201D rainbow We caught the only one we saw in the hour. About 30 other people on the shore fishing. People next to our campsite caught one from their boat too.

Would anyone know if the water has turned dirty from run off yet? Or is it still relatively clear. Want to take a short drive to fish Saturday. Wondering if it's worth it or go elsewhere

Went out there 2 days ago. Caught 10 rainbows. Kept 5. I have fished from shore 3 times last year got nothing. This time from a boat and got my limit. Think this is a lake that you need a boat..

Went out Thursday, April 4th ... ice still 20%u201D but mushy and the shoreline is starting to melt. Fished from 10:30 until 15:00 and had hits all day!!! Caught lots of little ones, two medium and one larger trout! Only pulled out one Sucker all day! May be the last few weeks for ice fishing at Chain ... bring your rubber boots!!!

Went out to Chain on Thursday March 21st. It was a beautiful almost no wind day! Ice was still 24 inches thick but with the sunshine the shoreline area was starting to melt with the first few inches really mushy and wet. We started at 11:00 and the fishing was steady until we left at 16:00 but mostly Suckers on the line. We managed to hook 4 trout, two of which were an okay size; all released.

Hi Bert, Last Sunday I was at Chain Lakes fishing with a rod holder & tip-up by Black Fox Fishing. The wind gusts were exceeding 100 km. I landed many fish using the Trigger. I was totally impressed. You can buy them at the Canadian Tire store in Cochrane, AB Check it out: www.blackfoxfishing.com

Went out on Saturday, January 5th, in the late morning. The weather was great and the ice surface packed with numerous fishermen/women. Unfortunately the fishing was super slow. We stayed three hours and during that time saw someone catch a small Sucker and we pulled up a small Rainbow. Great weather with low winds but bad fishing. As an aside ... A gentleman with a fish camera shared that there were a ton of fish below the ice and many approaching the bait but none actively biting. Conservation Officers were out as well checking everyone for licenses and rigs. Hopefully better fishing opportunities lay ahead ...

I’ve read it’s been very slow out there recently. Might want to wait, yet who knows what it’ll be then.

Hi Corkdown! I'm no expert but I have ice fished at Chain many times. Typically I walk on from the north side parking lot at the campground. I walk no more then 50 to 60 feet out and fish in 12 - 15 feet of water. Always had some success catching Rainbows! Good luck!

Has the ice been decimated with the recent chinooks?

by iFish Guest on Dec. 14, 2018

Earlier this year I caught 30 rainbows... the largest were only 14-15 inches. It’s an awesome stocked lake but I hope that there can be a length limit of 30cm added so there is isnt 6-10in fish being kept which will create larger fish overall
