Rest in peace Hasse Lake...

by RoyalStimulator on Jun. 22, 2017

Dead and gross......still think they got in the lake by an aquifer or something.... We got a little perch on the far side of the lake from the pontoon boat in the fall. The next year, we caught huge ones, like small bass size. And it went downhill after that, and quick. Same year they got into Spring....but the pond is probably the work of a bucket biologist

Lol i remember hasse lake..it was a good trout lake..missed those days..sad that its dead now...

by RoyalStimulator on Jun. 22, 2017

Uh huh, read any article on when they get into a stocked trout lake... I believe they usually say within the first year or so, one can expect to catch impressive size perch, then, as they become more numerous, the size goes down, as they become stunted. Pretty much ended Hasse Lake when they got in, and there was some big meat eaters in there. Seems to me, a lot of perch have been caught lately, so it has already begun. Thanks for the capital letters though, really brought your point home

BROWN TROUT FEED ON PERCH SO THATS WHY THE PERCH POPULATION HAS NOT EXPLODED ..

Star Star Star Star Star

by RoyalStimulator on Jun. 21, 2017

I got two frigging perch of my fly rod the other night....they are going to take over and stunt the trout. Browns may pick off a few little ones. Someone, I don't think SRD is going to care if they go bye bye. They will just stop stocking the trout. If there are too many perch, the trout won't even grow, no food

I saw a dude catch a perch in the shallow area around the island..it was the first time i have seen a perch in 4seasons...lol

No Silent...the regs are very clear. Since Beaumont falls under the Ab Fish Stocking Program you can ONLY take trout to the legal limit. Perch must be released.

Hi Donnie. I was at Beaumont last night.I find when the fish are finicky I try a small midge pupa pattern like a size 16 zebra midge. I tie it onto some 5x or 6x tippet and let it drift just under the surface giving it a painfully slow retrieve and letting sit still from time to time. I'm new to chronomid fishing but it seems to work ok for a few trout when their being picky.

Caught 25 trout this morning all catch and release! Used baitcaster with 1.5in rapala chrome shad as the lure.

by RoyalStimulator on Jun. 10, 2017

Keep calm and fish on....... fish will be fine when the water cools. Fountain probably doesn't help as it turns the water over and they can't head to the basement to the cool stuff. FYI, the plural of trout is trout.... Lol

Trout action was a bit slow today..but then again the weather was hot...but still landed a few small rainbows..place was crowed with people...

by RoyalStimulator on Jun. 4, 2017

Trout get the red sores when the water gets warm.... It's like swimmer's itch....they get them in potholes around here.... It means set em back....lol

Star Star Star Star Star

Ya same here..i practice catch and release 99 percent of the time..i teach my kids that aswell..i do keep the odd trout if it takes the hook to far down ..maybe 3 trout a year i keep for the bbq..

by Conservation on May. 23, 2017

Anyone see people poaching. Report them! You will get a portion of their fine! And more people get to keep fishing.

Alberta Sportfishing Licences Requirements An Alberta Sportfishing Licence is required to fish in Alberta by means of sportfishing (see Licences and Costs and sportfishing definition). If you are under 16 years of age, an Alberta resident aged 65 or older, or a first Nations%u2019 person who is defined as an Indian under the federal Indian Act, you are not required to have a Sportfishing Licence, but you must follow sportfishing regulations. Sportfishing Licences are not required when a person is sportfishing on a designated Free Fishing Weekend. From the Alberta Fishing Regulations for the people looking for clarifications. No I wasn't that guy I prefer catch and release unless I want a good dinner I only take what I will eat or if they are injured from swallowing my hook. If they are going to die upon the release might as well eat them. Yes I use barbless hooks as well. I love this sport too much to wreck it keeps me sane plus gives me a reason to get out of the house. As well nothing beats seeing the joy of my kids catching a fish. Hopefully see some of you out there and good luck for the summer seasons. Enjoy.

Star Star Star Star Star

by oggie on May. 22, 2017

Sedubius, You bring up a good point. I'm glad you did what you did. Our regulations do not clarify catch limits for under 18 yrs of age. Three years ago I had my two grand daughters with me when an officer checked us. He stated that if my grand daughters each had a fishing rod and were fishing that they were entitled to a limit, provided they caught the fish. We were fishing at buck lake for walleye. Laws may have changed since then. Hope some one can clarify this regulation.__ Tight Lines

Got out to the pond yesterday and it was busy. The big bellied middle aged man next to me pulled his stringer out of the water and had at least 12 fish on it. I said "got enough fish there bud?" to which he replied about how it is perfectly legal. I said "ok" and pulled out my phone to call RAP, filled a report. Within 5min after filling the report he packed up quickly and left and I received a call from the officer who was going to come out and fine him. In the future I'll just call RAP (1-800-642-3800) and not say a word to the poacher. BTW if you are reading this I WILL report you again next time too, and its 5 fish per license meaning your children's catch count towards your limit, idiot.

Star Star Star Star Star

by sedubius on May. 17, 2017

Wow what a day today. Second cast of the day and hooked into a monster, after a long battle I pulled out a 20" Brown. Didn't expect to see one that big in here. A few of the smaller ones had tags on them which I have never seen on stocked trout here. Should I be recording info on the fish and reporting it? All the fish Including the monster were released to be caught again.

harsh weather this weeken but still landed well over 12 trouts..all on 52buick wet flt,s. all the trout i caught were around 10inchs or under..all catch and safely released..but clearly not as many trout stocked this year compare to the last few years.

Was out there tonight. Cold wind. There were 8 people fishing that I could see. Caught, Recorded, and Released 5 fish. All were in healthy condition..I am glad they stocked it, but am sad at the shopping bag mentality. I still think stocked ponds should be C&R until Canada Day and have a under 16 only fishing derby weekend and then after that people can take fish home. Just a suggestion if fisheries is listening?

Star Star Star Star Star

by SassyBoots on May. 13, 2017

Oh, and they're possibly not even stocking some ponds; they haven't done Hermitage yet as the water needs further testing. The link I provided will give news and updates as well as a list of the ponds that have been stocked for the year, but available fish are down by about 40 percent due to Whirling Disease.

Star Star Star Star Star

by SassyBoots on May. 13, 2017

SO, between the Cormorants that hunt here, the people that have NO CLUE on fishing etiquette or common sense (leave the fingerlings in the pond)and the heavy fishing pressure, chances are I won't even be visiting this year. Sad. All the Alberta stocked ponds will be in the same position due to the disease as noted in my previous post. If people had left the tiny ones alone in years past, we might have more fish there this year, but it is what it is. I might pop out and try in the fall, but I don't think I'm even going to make the effort over the summer.

This lake HAS been stocked, according to reports. However, due to restrictions and issues they will not have stocked it to the capacity it has been in previous years. Follow this link for info: http://www.ab-conservation.com/programs/fish/aca-stocked-lakes

Conservation your right about people keeping everything they catch it makes me sick.I love your catch and release policy I release every fish I catch except 1 12inch rainbow my 6year old caught who took the hook to deep and was bleeding when he brought him in. Try ice fishing Beaumont this winter we have had good luck provided people leave any fish to grow. Also i did not see 1 warden this year the 20 times I was there.Budget cuts wardens spread to thin across Alberta and more so people keeping to many fish with the excuse they only die over winter not true punch a couple holes through the ice this winter you will be amazed.

Star Star Star Star Star

had a few hit,s on worms and bobber fishing but still got skunked in the end of the day...

Star Star Star Star Star

by Conservation on Aug. 16, 2016

The birds are not the problem...several of us have watched many people fishing Beaumont taking way more fish than there legal limit. 10 fisherman 5plus fish per day...do the math. Fisheries has to encourage catch and release for adults and keep and eat for kids.

Star Star Star Star Star

by jstiles2477@gmail.com on Aug. 14, 2016

Beaumont pond is great except for the cormeronts the large black birds you see on the top of the light polls on the island. They literally destroy a stocked pond in a few months eating rainbows 10 inches and bigger. my wife and i watched this over and over. I hate them more then blue herons. 6 birds times 3-4 fish per day do the math. Alberta fish and game has to discourage these black birds from nesting and returning to beaumont pond.

Star Star Star Star Star

by Orvisman on Aug. 13, 2016

Also try small chronomid pupa just below the surface when fish are rising.

Star Star Star Star Star

by Flyfishaddict on Aug. 13, 2016

I think Jake has the idea. Try a Grffiths gnat in size 18-22. Come mid September the fishing will pick up with backswimmers and water boatmen.

Star Star Star Star Star

in my 10 years of fishing here at 4season,s i have never seen or caught a perch...only rainbows and browns (browns for 2 years)..i did land a few gold fish over the years on hook and worms..lol

by Jake on Aug. 2, 2016

I have been pretty successful with Griffiths gnats between 830 pm and until it gets dark. But that was about a month ago when the weeds weren't out of control. Also I caught a perch on a black crystal bugger.... I didn't know there was perch in there. Has anyone else caught perch?

Star Star Star Star Star

by DwayneL on Jun. 28, 2016

Not a comment on the fishing. I live next to the pond. Awesome to walk 10 minutes and spend a few hours fishing. I am angry. That those big black long necked birds that are not from our country live there. I watched one bird for about 6 hours. It. Caught and swallowed 4 trout. That's 12 a day for the 3 birds if that's all they catch. 360 fish a month. Why not capture and remove or???

There are Perch... They were spotted on camera over the winter

Star Star Star Star Star

by zyggy on May. 8, 2016

There is no perch.

Star Star Star Star Star

by Me1969 on May. 7, 2016

I suspect the minnows are a result of the genius that put Perch in it

by wouldee on May. 6, 2016

Fished the entire pond. No bites, saw no action on the surface at all. Did see a healthy school of minnows circling close to shore. They have not stocked pond yet.

Star Star Star Star Star

by zyggy on May. 3, 2016

The stocking report for 2016 does not indicate Beaumont pond was stocked yet.

Star Star Star Star Star

by biteless on May. 3, 2016

I was out for a few hours in the heat of the day today and not a single bite between myself and two others who were there too. Saw a couple schools of tiny fish so stands to reason there are, or were, at least one male and one female fish in the pond but highly doubt it has been stocked yet this year.

by Matthew5660 on May. 1, 2016

Was stocked 10 days ago

Star Star Star Star Star

by Fishin'96 on Apr. 30, 2016

I agree that catching and releasing is goos, i put all the ones ive caught back. Zyggy there is no five pounders but they are probably double the size of when they stocked them last year like 14 to 16 inches. Anyways does anyone know if its stocked yet I wanna take the girlfriend shes never been fishing before so i wanna wait till ita stocked so itll be easier for her.

Star Star Star Star Star

by zyggy on Apr. 29, 2016

I will require picture evidence of that 5 pounder.

by Pacmanfisher on Apr. 28, 2016

Just a note for the non believers. I know from experience from buying into private ponds in the past that trout will double in weight in the first 1.5-2 months after being introduced into a pond as long as there's ample food for them,so not uncommon for there to be fish that size after one year. Good on you guys for the both catching and releasing, it's good to see!

Star Star Star Star Star

by becks on Apr. 28, 2016

Is it stocked? Donnie D, as I know Leduc reservoir is stocked. Hope you good luck.

Star Star Star Star Star

by zyggy on Apr. 26, 2016

Weight is not subjective, it is objectively verifiable by using a scale. Guessing weight is subjective. There is no point asking for length if people are just going to start guessing.

Star Star Star Star Star

by Patzaz on Apr. 25, 2016

Weight is too subjective. Go by inches.

Star Star Star Star Star

by Fishin'96 on Apr. 25, 2016

I caught a couple of browns out here about a couple weeks ago and they were about 1 to 1.5 pound range.

Star Star Star Star Star

by pwned555 on Apr. 22, 2016

Donnie D you're just plain wrong and might need to readjust all your fish stories. It's impossible for a brown to get that big in one year and they have never stocked them in that lake before last year. I have seen a 3 pound rainbow caught out of there but they've been stocking those for years.

Star Star Star Star Star

by Donnie D on Apr. 21, 2016

lol well guess you might want to catch some of the bigger browns then..my report is accurate thank you ...

Star Star Star Star Star

by zyggy on Apr. 21, 2016

That's accurate. I caught a 14" brown and it was 1lbs.

Star Star Star Star Star

by petetherocker on Apr. 21, 2016

post below is crap...The Alberta Conservation Association stocked 1000 - 8" (inches) long browns last spring. They are currently (at best) 1 pound, give or take a couple of ounces.

Star Star Star Star Star

by Donnie D on Apr. 19, 2016

let,s put it this way..The brown trout here are much bigger then last year..i saw a few already that were over or around the 3 to 5 pound mark .. It is nice to see people practicing catch and release ..all most every brown trout i have seen being caught in these past 2 weeks were released back in to the water...but sad to say that i have not yet landed any ..i have been getting skunked ha ha..my friend and i were useing 5 of dimonds and he will be landed them 1 after another..but not me..lol...ohhwell that is ok..i just enjoy getting out for some fishing if i catch something or not.

I think it's great when people are having success at some of the lakes listed on Ifish, however it's just a matter of time before some of the lakes are fished out due to over advertising and flocks of people descending on them because of all of the positive posts on some of them.

Star Star Star Star Star

Thanks for all the advice on the auger, and for the offer of help sneeder. I didn't think the ice would be that thick this fast!!!!! Now I am excited to go out and give things a try, especially with the warm weather. Can't come out this weekend, too busy, but maybe next weekend. I do have a cordless drill, so I will look for the adapter Sneeder was talking about, but its good to know the ice isn't too bad to get thru with an auger. Perch in there???? Never knew that.Hope the Browns get them all. Crappy that people do that but what can you do. Hoping to be out next weekend, planning on getting an auger this week I think. One of the guys at work said a four inch should be good enough? Thoughts?

Star Star Star Star Star

The reference about keeping fish was only with regards to perch. This is what it says in the 2015 regs http://www.albertaregulations.ca/fishingregs/fish-stocking.html

Star Star Star Star Star

by Sneeder16 on Dec. 3, 2015

Hey Donnie D all good buddy no worries dude. I was there on Tuesday and caught 8 rainbows and missed about 6 lol. there pretty active between 8am to 11:00am after that they slowed right down.

Star Star Star Star Star

by Me1969 on Dec. 3, 2015

I think you need to update yourself on the regs. The perch have been introduced illegally and can't be kept

Star Star Star Star Star

by Donnie D on Dec. 3, 2015

my advice for you guys is get updated alberta regs.it is in deed legal to keep your catch at 4seasons..lol

Star Star Star Star Star

by Donnie D on Dec. 3, 2015

lol i have been catching fish from 4seasons for 10 years with fishwild officers chatting right beside me..trust me on this..you are indeed allowed to keep your limit at 4seasons..its not debateable

Star Star Star Star Star

by Alumacomp on Dec. 3, 2015

Me1969 is correct. This from the AB Regs...."The harvest of game fish species other than trout from stocked trout waters is not permitted"

Star Star Star Star Star

by Me1969 on Dec. 3, 2015

You can't keep perch from a stocked pond, unless the regulations stipulate that you can

Star Star Star Star Star

by Donnie D on Dec. 2, 2015

you can keep anything out of 4seasons..trout and perch..but ya i agree ..some body put the perch there..if im not mistaken i think Brown trout eat perch if so then the perch should be gone soon enough..the brown trout have put on weight in 4seasons.

Star Star Star Star Star

by Me1969 on Dec. 2, 2015

If there are Perch in it, you can bet some genius dumped some in it. You can't keep any so I really don't see the point

Star Star Star Star Star

by Donnie D on Dec. 1, 2015

To sneeder 16..look,s like i owe you a apology..my buddy went to 4season,s today (he and alot of people including myself didnt belive you about the perch) but after fishing for 2 hours he saw 4 perch on his cam and landed 1..he confermed your story..hope you can find it to forgive me for not beliveing you dude..lol..i am man enough to admit i was wrong..thank you for the info..now i am highly looking forward to ice fishing at 4seasons ..

Star Star Star Star Star

Star Star Star Star Star

to sassyboots...early ice fishing season it is very easy to cut threw the ice with your auger...but by january it is hard when the ice really thickens up..

Star Star Star Star Star

by iYearn on Nov. 22, 2015

SassyBoots Take the handle off of your hand auger (but bring it along as back up). Buy a $5.00 adapter from Walmart.ca for a auger and power drill. Take your cordless drill, with an extra battery and you have a power auger. With my 19V drill I can go through 3' of ice in about 5-10 seconds.

Star Star Star Star Star

by Sneeder16 on Nov. 21, 2015

Hey sassy boots. using a hand auger is too bad as long as u have sharp blades on your auger u should b fine. but other than that if I see u down there I will give u a hand no problem. I got your back lol. and does any body know if there is enough ice down there yet

Star Star Star Star Star

by SassyBoots on Nov. 21, 2015

Alright, so here is a stupid question. Well, maybe not so stupid. I love coming out here on the weekend, its close to home and a great getaway for me. I'd love to come and try some ice fishing this year. Thing is, I am not sure if I can get a hole thru the ice with an auger by myself. I'm a girl(in case you can't tell by the username lol). I've gotten "looks" from a couple of guy friends when I mention drilling a hole with a hand auger. I've never tried it, and am getting the impression its difficult? What are the chances of making arrangements when the ice gets thick enough to be out when one of you guys are out there to help me get a hole in the ice? I'd really appreciate it. I'm planning to go buy a little auger for myself anyway, but just in case. Also, maybe someone can show me the right way to do it? Like I said, it sounds kind of silly, but when I go out, I go alone, I'm single. I'd really appreciate the help. Thanks in advance.

I never understand why fisherman have to brag. Enjoy the sport and preserve the resource. You may catch and release, but there's a whole lot of others that don't.

I have been fishing this pond lately and found it to be pretty fun, Success with small flies or lures moving fast through the water although the algae is making spin casting a little tough. I reccomend just making your way around the island and into the deep middle area, I havent had any luck on the fountain side yet

I've been fishing Beaumont pond for 8 years now. The pond was great back when you can get 2-1/2pound to 3pound trout in there. Then a winter kill occurred and took out 95% of the trout. This pond hasn't been the same since. But I'm hoping it will get to that point again in the future because it close to home for me and it is fun for me to relax and enjoy after work. I mostly do C&R at this pond unless I catch the odd 2pound or 3 pounder in there.

Star Star Star Star Star

by iYearn on Jun. 1, 2015

Thanks Donnie D and Silent for the info. Glad you are enjoying Beaumont as much as my son and I are. We've been out many times...all C&R. So it is unfortunate to hear stories of anyone piling them in and keeping them. Clearly, they can keep them. Up to their limit of course. I am to understand that "Fish & Feathers" has been out to Beaumont and handed out tickets and seized equipment already this year. So good on them for doing that!! If you see someone poaching, phone it in.

Hey Donnie. Those brown people I saw them as I was leaving. I wish I stayed behind and messed around with their lines. I would have set up a rig of triple hooks and cast like I'm a pure beginner. Lol would have loved to stay and messed around with them. BTW I'm the Filipino sitting beside the bench to the right side of guys that had two kids.

landed another 10 rainbows ( all catch and release) but sad to say i saw a group of men (from pkastan) keeping all the trout they were catching..i was right near them and none of the trout they got were bigger then their hands..all small trout and they kept them.. i asked why are they keeping such small trout but they politely told me to shut up .. so i decided to cast my fly rod into their area just to tick them off...ha ha

Couldn't agree more Clazel1 and C&R. My son and I were out over the weekend. Caught 7 including 2 browns. All small...all fun...all went back!! This pond gets heavy fishing pressure and based on the number of people out while we were they C&R's math is accurate. But I did see more people releasing than keeping the fish. Let's keep that C&R going so we can enjoy Beaumont until the end of the season!

Star Star Star Star Star

by Clazel1 on May. 10, 2015

Last year was my first year to fish in this pond and I seen people walking away with fish all the time in the early part of the season and by July long weekend fishing was all but done. In the evenings when the bugs where hatching you wouldn't see a single rise. It was really disappointing. I would like to see the little ones stick around and grow.

Star Star Star Star Star

by C&R for our future children on May. 10, 2015

Yup....I agree on the catch limit....lets do the math...10 people around the lake all day catching about 10 fish a day with 2500 fish stocked means the pond will be empty in less than a month. So if the fish fits, there will be no fish left to fry....how about fish to enjoy the sport too. I agree with Muir lake restrictions.

Star Star Star Star Star

by Clazel1 on May. 9, 2015

Agreed they need to make the catch limit a little more strict for this pond then maybe the fish will have a chance to grow. Maybe have it a little more like Muir, but with a catch and size but maybe a little more reasonable. Maybe allow 2 fish at 12 inches

Star Star Star Star Star

Star Star Star Star Star

Star Star Star Star Star

by AlbertaCaster on Aug. 12, 2014

First cast today at 5:35am. 80% of hatch activity and 20% of the fish activity. Pretty quiet and lots of sips. Weather was 4 degrees warmer. Jumping started by 5:40. First fish on third cast and 2nd fish on my 5th cast. Plus four more hits on a fly pattern I tied to imitate Sunday's Green Lacewing. Will post photos on ifishforum.com this week.

Star Star Star Star Star

by AlbertaCaster on Aug. 10, 2014

Thanks Oly. After a quick water sample I noticed Green Lacewigs hatching which may have been on the trout menu. One took a large mosquito pattern I tied on due to the onslaught of critters butting my arms. I trimmed an Adams that did the trick. Many staple patterns might do for Lacewigs however I hit the vice to tie a few for next time. Stay small, match the hatch and target feeding times of early and late day. For reference, I was fishing the south side of the pond.

Great post AlbertaCaster.

Star Star Star Star Star

by AlbertaCaster on Aug. 10, 2014

The pond is alive and well! Was here at 5am. Sun rise at 6:10 and hundreds of fish jumping. The hatch was small white flies. Size 20-24 hooks easily. Caught 3 and had many more hits. Jumping died by 7 and sipping the surface till 8:30 then it slowed down. Perhaps leaving the pickerel rigs and spoons at home for small dry flies on a thinner but long leader would bring everyone more bites in the morning. Just a thought.

Too many poachers in beaumont

Star Star Star Star Star

by Pikster on Aug. 8, 2014

That's a fair point as well. I just came back from BC and was told by a fishing resort owner/guide that if you can catch and release till mid August there i good opportunity to get almost all out before November. He said the rainbows tend to get quite aggressive once summer heat is gone and will surface more frequently in average depths of 10-20 feet. No offence intended to those who wish to keep them early on, just like to see kids ability to catch them throughout the season to stay interested.

by Shabba on Aug. 4, 2014

I agree . But the other side of the coin is you leave them in the lake and they just winter kill anyway.

Star Star Star Star Star

by Pikster on Aug. 3, 2014

To the last entry, I strongly agree. I have fished with my son for the past 6 years only to see several bodies of water around large cities fished out and it appears many of us share similar frustrations. I have read hundreds of entries asking others if they know of any good perch or rainbow trout lakes. Until certain people respect the catch and release idea Im afraid these issues will continue and get worse. Dont get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with taking the odd one home but the minute a few people post comments of lots of action at a particular spot it seems there is a stampede of fishermen and women rushing to the latest hotspot to take what's left. So many folks talk about the days of hot bodies of water with great fishing. Look what happens when people keep taking home anything that bites the hooks? Let's respect the idea of being a bit less unselfish for the good of the sport. It will add a lot of smiles to kids and those new to fishing.

What would you rather? Catching large fish and releasing for others or lining up along shore to catch 4-6 inch stockers year after year and pan frying every night. I'm seeing too many people taking a tonne of fish home here. Now that aca is involved and it may be aerated practice catch and release. Educate others on shore. Yes to take one home is ok but let's get some age variation and hope for no more future winter kills. Then decrease the stocking rates once the pond gets to capacity. BOOM!
