Ice Hole Pounder, on which side of pond are you catching the perch? I've been there 4 times simce ice melt and haven't got a single perch. I thought maybe they were fished out by the poachers I saw from last year.
by FlounderPounder on Aug. 10, 2016
How do you get to the pond? Off of range road 150 or highway16?
by Ice hole pounder on Jun. 29, 2016
90% of the perch have a weird skin growth on them still fun to catch I probably wouldn't eat them average size 4-8" can catch the odd trout as well mostly catch and release though, and also clean up your god dam garbage when you are done otherwise the town will have this place fenced off with no access to it !!!

by barrykoy on May. 7, 2016
Im using pickerel rig when i caught him, try using bobber for about 5ft above your hook
by Whitefish18 on May. 7, 2016
What did you catch it on?
We were there yesterday and got 22" rainbow at the end of the day, i can't believe it.

Anything on powerbait?
by BigBam on Apr. 14, 2016
Was there on Saturday April 9 for 1.5 hours. Windy and cold. Had 4 hookups, all trout, good fight to them. Did try for perch for a little bit, no bites. Slip bobber with worm or meal worm 5ft below bobber. Also have a rainbow trout coloured spinner that got a bite.

by Ralphbud on Dec. 30, 2015
Anyone been out? How's the ice? Plan on goin out tomorrow and trying my luck. Any ice report would be great.
by Hardy on Nov. 26, 2015
Yes you can ice fish it but it's best to wait till later in the season as it does have to aeration pumps in it so it never really completely freezes over , some perch average 4-7" but will usually always catch something
by Whitefish18 on Nov. 17, 2015
Does anybody ice fish here? For perch primarily. Is it any good?
by Lundfisherman on Jul. 29, 2015
Go to the store by some #6 plain hooks and a pack of those weights you pinch together. And some chartreuse power bait. Put hook on bottom of line and two of those weights 12 inches above and put power bait on hook and cast out.. Let it sit they will hit .
by Whitefish18 on Jul. 28, 2015

by Girlscanfish on May. 19, 2015
Didn't catch anything today but all I was using was spinners. I should have tried a bobber. Used some garlic marshmallows as well.

by waterwolf on Mar. 11, 2015
was out yesterday but not much heard the airator was shut off last winter to get rid of the perch. not sure if this is true or not
by Whsman on Mar. 7, 2015
Anyone been out there lately? We had some great perch days a few years back. Always small but fun to catch ..anyone
by Pikster on Nov. 27, 2014
There were a number of people catching 6-7" perch in early July off the north end. If it's true about the airraters then you may as well also kiss the rainbows goodbye. Will have winterkill for sure. Depth is consistantly only around 11-12 feet. There wont be eNough oxygen to sustain fish for the winter. Also perch are fun to catch as well.
by e40water12 on Jul. 26, 2014
It's a shame. Oh well I got other places to fish. Just really sucks no enjoyment for kids now.
by Pikster on Jul. 18, 2014
To last post, yeah i feel your frustration. Veg. Pond is 45 minutes drive for me. I went out only once this year and wont dissapoint myself again. Just coming back from Crowsnest area. Fishing trout in that entire region is increadible. Seems like southern AB is the place to be. Crystal clear water 15 ft deep. You can see them coming towards your hook without a camera. All we seem to get around Edmonton is Blue-green algae and dissapointment....so jealous!
by e40water12 on Jul. 5, 2014
For sure you see trout jumping. Their isn't as much as they used to be. I know there is big 3 lbers in there. Point is more catch & release would be more enjoyable for everyone to have an opportunity to catch fish.
by kingslayer on Jun. 11, 2014
It depends where you fish in this lake if you are wanting perch. Ive fished all over and there are probably 3 spots where I always catch them. I have however caught trouts on every side of the lake.
by e40water12 on Jun. 4, 2014
Looks like another disappointment season. Haven't seen too much of trout or Perch. Looks like the obvious poacher's are back at it. Can't even take the kids to have a good day with catch & release.
by NoBuck on Jun. 2, 2014
went out yesterday, pond was alright, got 2 and that was it. started raining so we headed back into town
by Pikster on Jun. 2, 2014
Sadly this pond has been overfished. In the 2012 season you could catch smaller perch each time you casted out and snag a few 12" rainbows between making it a lot of fun and worthwhile to drive out. For past 2 seasons almost no perch or rainbows to be found. I'm a catch and release person and think it's okay to keep 1 or 2 rainbows but witnessed people keeping 6 inch perch?? seriously? To Clark..probably a better idea to save gas $ by going elsewhere especially if you are driving a fair distance. To Riverbear yes there are Crawfish in this pond, you can get them along the north road at the 1/2 way point. they nibble at my bait giving me false hopes lol. Happy fishing!
by Clark on May. 28, 2014
Anyone catching any fish here?
by Riverbear on May. 12, 2014
If there is crawfish in here...I'm coming down there with a net and some garlic butter.

Are there still crayfish in this pond? Early spring i always notice gulls feasting on them. Poor trout activity this past winter. Hope they stock more for summer

by Pikster on Dec. 21, 2013
I'd have to agree with Latest comment. I discovered this pond 4 years ago and man was there ever activity. I was never dissapointed going there until this year. Between all garbage left behind, beer cans and wrappers mostly and witnessing certain people harvesting anything that got hooked on their line regardless of size, it is obvious that yet another popular spot has been vicimized. Very sad to see as all local areas seem to be turning into dead zones. I never kept any perch and only took home a few rainbows over the years. It was a great spot for my son and me. Now he has lost interest since there is little to no activity. So sad! Hats off to the local volunteer folks though who try to keep this pond going.
by iFish Guest on Dec. 2, 2013
the pond has been over fished. Ive been catching and released fish for 5 yrs in this pond. Their is fish in the pond Ive seen them on the camera but too small. People have over fished the big fish hard.
by iFish Guest on Nov. 13, 2013
Try calling the Vegreville Parks and rec people who are maintaining the pond.

We are trying to find out if you can have open fires here. Does anyone know?
by iFish Guest on Nov. 1, 2013
I went out twice last 3 weeks. had the odd nibble probably perch. Seems like there is no interest. Wont be back till freezes over. Hope pond wasn't over fished. I noticed significant drop in water levels too.
by iFish Guest on Aug. 10, 2013
To Aug 4 Ifish guest, I have witnessed this since discovering the pond 4 years ago. Time to consider release only for a few years or consider restricting number and size of perch from 15 to 5. They have this restriction at Garner Lake. Don't expect much from F & W cause in my 25+ years of fishing, I'm still waiting to have an officer to approach me for the 1'st time. Also with the province broke, dont expect any miracles.
by iFish Guest on Aug. 5, 2013
2.5 pounder right off the north side! Boy there are few far and between this size. I put the fellow back hoping he'll help populate for the future, that's if the perch population doesn't get out of control. I love perch too but they're way to small to consider keeping.
by iFish Guest on Aug. 4, 2013
I think its time to have F & W present out in this Pond. Too many poachers keeping under sized fish. I think its time to bring in Catch and Release. How to you keep a 2 inch Perch?.
by iFish Guest on Jun. 24, 2013
Awesome fishing for perch. just a nice time catching and releasing.
by iFish Guest on Jun. 22, 2013
Awesome day fishing. Tons of small Perch. Very little Trout. I seen a few Perch with growths on them. I just catch and Release.
dont waste time if your just trying for trout. it is more a perch pond now, still a small amount of trout but perch are over populating. Trout havent had growths but alot of the perch have, make sure you check them all before consuming
by Pikster on Jun. 2, 2013
I went there yesterday, ended up catch and release perch fishishing 15-20 with several nibbles. No rainbows interested. Perch were averaging anywhere from 4-6 inches. It is a nice pond and appears very well kept. My only concern is a growth on some of them.
I noticed the same last year and wonder if anyone else has seen this.
by Shabba on Jun. 1, 2013
Very slow was out there for 5 hours . Just a couple nibbles
by iFish Guest on May. 21, 2013
Was there May long Monday, Caught about 40 Perch and 1 Trout between 4 people within an hour, All catch and release. Fun little pond
by iFish Guest on Apr. 2, 2013
went here today for a bit , caught a bunch of small perch and one very small trout like 5 inches , it was still fun to get out, will be back out when the water opens up
by iFish Guest on Mar. 29, 2013
Managed to snag a humpback perch 11 inches, never thought I'd see one this big in the pond. Released it cause looks as though its full of eggs. Wish more catch and release would be practiced here.
by Cajed1 on Mar. 19, 2013
Most likely a brook trout, wouldn't have bulls ,guaranteed thats not a accident they would make. We do such a poor job identifying our trout species out here that fish & game put trout identification as the cover for the regs this year.
by iFish Guest on Mar. 19, 2013
To Ifish guest March 14, I took a picture of the bull trout and compared markings to make sure it was in fact a bull. I know the pond is not intentionally stocked with them as it was probably accidentally released in with rainbows i guess. I released the little guy and hope it does well. would like to catch him in 5 years. lol!
To the last posting, We did have a trout pond in Sherwood park years ago but County officials tested the water and found it was quite contaminated. I wish we could have one and Im sure it can be cleaned up but it would cost money which the county does not seem to want to spend for its residents. Lots of money for a third indoor swimming facility though. The drive to Vegreville is a bit far but well worth it. There is one in Edmonton but no perch in it, making it less interesting for my kids.
I want to believe that most outside visitors would respect Vegreville pond as any other and would like to thank those who have done a fantastic job to maintain their pond.
I hope other Sherwood Park residents would send local council a message to create a fishing pond locally. Its a shame that we have one of the largest populations in the province and cant even be provided with a fish pond.
by iFish Guest on Mar. 18, 2013
I totally agree with catch and release. I really enjoy the time and fish and wild life around. There should be more effort to everyone to make it a future for everyone to enjoy :) .
by iFish Guest on Mar. 14, 2013
I have fished this pond since I was a young kid, before perch were introduced and it seems that has been the trigger that has brought all the attention to it. There used to be some very large rainbows in it even with steady pressure from locals and surrounding areas. Maybe the city of Edmonton/Sherwood Park/ Spruce Grove/Stony Plain should consider building trout & perch ponds in their sourrounding areas. As per other comments on this site not all Albertans pay for these ammenities evenly, Donations, Funraising and Volunteer help to take care of this pond has come from predominantly local businesses and community members. Consider Giving back to the places that you use. That being said I dont mean to discourage anyone but just remember to practice ethical fishing to preserve for future generations. Also there are no bull trout in this lake.
by iFish Guest on Mar. 13, 2013
I think this Pond should be catch and release bases. Way too many people taking from this pond. How are fish going to grow. I would never eat any fish outta this pond. Its nice to fish to have fun. I can bet it will be over fished by city people from last year.
by Pikster on Mar. 9, 2013
Active trout today. 6-12". Even managed to bring up a 9" bull trout. All catch n release. Wonder if there are more?
by Pikster on Mar. 4, 2013
Youngbuck, there are no perch bigger than 6-7", I believe the larger ones are fished out. I have fished this pond in practically every spot. there seems to be a good population of smaller ones which is encouraging. Problem being will everyone fishing the pond release them until they get bigger?
One other thing, I have noticed some of them have a growth in different regions of their body, (mouth, fins and body) leaving me suspicious if they are healthy enough to eat. A local told me it is a bacterial growth and that he believes eating those is not recommended. I have not seen any of the same type of growth on the rainbows. Hope this helps!
by Pikster on Feb. 23, 2013
I went out Friday and caught around a dozen rainbows 6-10 inches along with Lots of 6 inch perch.
Does anyone know if there are bigger rainbows worth keeping in this pond?
by iFish Guest on Feb. 21, 2013

I bring family from Edmonton. We all catch lots of fish. We will be back again to catch more fish. What is best way to catch more fish?
by Pikster on Sep. 30, 2012
Hi Richie Rich, Agreed! I think those of us following the rules also have the duty of reporting those violating F&W rules. Nothing bothers me more than people keeping undersized and over exceeding their limits. Happy fishing!
by Richie Rich on Sep. 28, 2012
Hey there Pikster, This a forum for Reports of the Vegreville trout pond. Know doubt there are people that have proper fishing lic's. Point being F&W Reg aren't being followed.by certain people. Also People that have valid fishing lic's are paying for the pond. Simple fact's sat & sunday evenings will tell you other wise.
by Pikster on Sep. 17, 2012
Hey Richie Rich I dont think its fair to accuse certain Edmontonians of over fishing the pond. I have had conversations with several people at the pond who are from Vegreville, Mundare area, with pails full of rainbows and some even with 6 inch perch. regardless, the sign at the enterance states the pond is a public use area. We all pay provincial taxes towards the development of the resevoir.
by Pikster on Sep. 16, 2012
Some perch have growths on their fins and scales, does not look healthy, have not seen it on rainbows but am now wondering if fish here are safe to keep at all. I am catching 6" perch or smaller fun to catch and release with my son. Would not advise keeping any.
by Richie Rich on Sep. 4, 2012
