Good day today, caught 5 in two hours, only 2 worth keeping. They are jumping everywhere. I found a stringer with 5 dead (very dead) rainbows in the bush 5 yards from the water. WTF are people thinking?

by gazertin on Jun. 11, 2017

Cajed1 is correct if you caught your limit and keep fishing any fish caught must be released back into the water even if mortally deep hooked or dead it's the law. SteveO read your regulations again and quit spreading false misinformation in your daily play by play's

Star Star Star Star Star

by Cajed1 on Jun. 11, 2017

Really????it's not illegal. If you already kept 5 a deep looked and dying fish by law needs to be put back.

June 10 th , again I wish fish and wildlife park rangers would patrol this park for catching those who catch little rainbows and toss then back in dead and keepl fishing as if its their right to do that kinda fishing , wow I hope that those who do that gets caught and has the book of law come down on them , maybe take there vehicle from those who Break the sports laws , so disappointed that mornville doesn't do anything about having this park patrol , Cheers Steve o

Biggie wouldn't let me log in w/ a blurb about being suspended. Not the first time probably not the last. Hence this account. Lol. Sometimes you gotta be blunt to get the point across.

Well I seem to had gotten a lot of others fellows anglers upset  , which  was not  my attentions , great to say something and be noticed , but my goal here was to get your focus on reading   , sport fishing regulations guide , which has worked .  hurray , yes there is a lot that think hear say goes for fishing regulations , and reading the guide , is left to others to explain there interpretation s to others who don't read , Well with that said , I apologize for any upsets I have caused , Now my newest report is a huge one got off my hook the other day , So with that said and some huge jumps I have noticed , tells me that trophys are still in this pond . I know I had a great feeling on hooking and to experience the feel of  a huge rainbow had on my reel ,Latest Stock Report May 22/2017 ---- 4500 / 17.4 cm length 2500 / 11.9 cm length , 17.4 = 6.8 inches / 11.9cm = 4.6 inches And one more note , I have not  been drunking nor been hit with a golf ball lol , Cheers Steve o

Northern yaker/cajed1 question did it allow you to sign in? Or just not post because i had to modify my post about 3 time before sending it (said something like "warning, children use this site!") Thats sad that people feel the need to report people after being proven wrong, kinda childish learn to accept your mistakes and move on.

he's certainly a difficult one to make sense of... Side note my bad for my first post say under 18 dont need a license my phone auto corrected 16 into 18 and didn't notice till now) but regardless every person has their own limit if they can use their own rod....

by Sumara on May. 31, 2017

It was quite windy but it helped dampen the hot weather this afternoon. Bite was pretty good, managed to catch 5 and lose a few. All pretty small so they live to see another day. Seen a seagull catch one which is a shame.

Please stop killing my language. Go check the bottom for crayfish. And stay there. Ps caught a trout that had "nubby" front fins. Parasite or crayfish attack? Lol. Haven't seen that before.

by Steve o on May. 30, 2017

Hello again , May 30 very very windy , 2:30 pm temp around 26 c , catch and release today 1 average larger size hum left around 6 pm , reading the report and wow , notice all the blog hum saying to myself gee what kinda can of mess worms I opened lol , name calling is for those child mimed , its a free world to speak , and to express concerns , maybe you can't fix stupid , but all in all , old wise man said if you eat to much fish , you end up with fish for brains, so go ahead fish away over your limits , before name calling and think , Could he correct or not , I just say on this note , I hope i am correct in my post , and then again to read that I have the attention of fellow angler's hum and yes some of those angulars as well reading my report great , And that the Sport fishing regulations book is being read as well , Cheers Steve o

Crawfish are fired up! Looks like there are hacthlings as well. Soon.... as for trout

by kkfish on May. 29, 2017

by the way, can we take away the live fish? or we had to kill them before leaving. i did not see any regulation about this.

by NorthernYaker on May. 29, 2017

He didn't say kids and seniors can keep as many as they want, they can keep the legal limit. You and SteveO should get together get drunk and talk your ridiculous impressions of the regulations elsewhere.

Star Star Star Star Star

by NorthernYaker on May. 29, 2017

He can't because he is so wrong it makes my head spin. Saying under 16 and over 65 can't keep fish. It's idiots like fishforfun? this that are likely poachers because they can't read and understand the regulations. I'm done trying to educate this poacher

Star Star Star Star Star

by BiggieB on May. 28, 2017

Still waiting on the page number or any articles that prove your point... go ahead and call fish and wild life they will tell you the same thing me and northern yaker have said... look at page 20 of the regulations... I assume you think that people who keep fish within legal regulations on the national fishing weekend (see page 50 of regulations when no one needs a license ) are poachers too eh?

Star Star Star Star Star

by Fishinforfun on May. 28, 2017

Ok. First call me an idiot? I will not be caught up in your name calling. I am informed. I have children. As far as the regulations go under 16 or over 65 can not keep fish. So you said your kids are allowed to keep fish as many as they want well they are not! If you decide to keep those fish they go under your limit. Or licenses on the shore. So you are poaching.

Star Star Star Star Star

by BiggieB on May. 28, 2017

Northern yakeer thank you, i know you're informed! Hope to one day meet you on the lake so we can have a nice chat about these idiots lol!

by NorthernYaker on May. 28, 2017

Beat me to it Biggie...

Star Star Star Star Star

by NorthernYaker on May. 28, 2017

No you are misinformed. This is directly from the regulations. " if you are under 16 years of age, an Albertan resident aged 65or older, or First Nations person who is defined as a Indian under the federal Indian act, you are not required to have a sportfishing licence, but you must follow sportfishing regulations" So by your messed up interpretation a senior can not keep fish unless he buys a licence which they don't require?? If your under 16 or over 65 no licence required bs you have your own limit. Go have a drink with Steve O bud, & and good luck angularing.

Star Star Star Star Star

by BiggieB on May. 28, 2017

Tell me what page and or paragraph states that in the alberta fishing regulations because i have it right infront of me right now If the person is under 16 they dont need a license but they need to follow regulations...as i previously stated...

Star Star Star Star Star

by Fishinforfun on May. 28, 2017

Sorry 2 lisenceses equal 10 fish. In a stocked pond for raimbow trout. Stop poaching. Read your fishing regulations.

Star Star Star Star Star

by Fishinforfun on May. 28, 2017

Actually you are extremely misinformed. Each license is aloud 5 fish. If you have a minor fishing under your license, that license is aloud 5. I.e. 1 lisenc equlas 5 fish, 2 lisence equals 5 fish etc. Fbypu are allowing underage to catch what they want that is poaching.

Star Star Star Star Star

by BiggieB on May. 28, 2017

Steve o shut up you idiot, an individual under the age of 16 does not require a license to fish and they can keep their own limit (example if there is 1 person over 18 and a minor under 18 they can keep 10 trout) And they can CATCH as many as they want.... can only keep the legal limit... Please keep your drunken stupid rants to yourself no one wants to hear it...thank you

Star Star Star Star Star

Star Star Star Star Star

by NorthernYaker on May. 28, 2017

by Steve o on May. 28, 2017

May 27 / Hello again fellow angulars , arrived 2:30 pm very strong winds temp 24 c , Very few bites , very few jumps ,a lot of small jumpers , hum I stayed until late evening caught average size 12 inch which swallowed the hook so had to keep it , Caught a small tiny which I manage to set free so it can grow to be that trophy , on that note on small fish caught , you no its a tiny when it bites so light that you not need to hurt it by reeling the heck out of on the way in , that your catch becomes dinner for the train landgulls that have become used to fishing free food , As to some who are suppose to be good anglers , I would have to call them angulars for they do not read or understand the fishing laws on fishing, You catch more then your limits , 5 is your count on your license that includes under the age that fish with you , Example for excuses ,I go fishing I take a under age child with me on my license between both of us I can catch the limit of 5 , Well thanks again fellow anglers for reading , I just have vent for some that hurt the sport on fishing , That someday we will not be able take our kids and grand kids fishing because of those who ruin it for others , Cheers Steve o

Well long weekend has came and gone , family fishing had came and go , I would have to mention I believe this year stock of 5000 had been pretty much caught this year , yes some big ones still may swim the pond but over all pretty much fished out , I have been to Cardiff many of times bad weather days hot ones and in between days early arrived days mid day late evening and yes I can say it been pretty much fished out, so all you angulars ( whoops anglers I meant let write to our government or fish and wild life and asked them to restock the pond and to have fish and wild life officers wonder the pond and catch those who break laws on over catching there limits maybe not even having a fishing licence cheers Steve o

Star Star Star Star Star

by JasonAnderson on May. 22, 2017

Just curious. Is boating allowed in this pond?

Star Star Star Star Star

by Steve o on May. 22, 2017

Hello again anglers , May 21/17 as the long weekend comes to a end , I was out around 1 pm the temperature was 21 c windy , fishing was a sport , caught my first in a few minutes , stayed fishing into the early evening left around 8:30 pm , may a day of the sport , Total catch and release was three average size 11 inches , lots of jumping going on but as for taken the bait , well I leave that to nature itself , While was fishing I have notice from time to time dead fish were being blowing up pond from where I been fishing and natures birds were scooping them up , so I did a little investigation , and have notice , that a older man and a younger one have been catching fish for size and releasing the smaller back into the pond. Now I can say catching releasing them is find , with me , but if you notice that a fish is not going to survive after swallowing your hook and is still a decent size fish that others would sure to love to have on there plate , then don't toss it back in dead , keep your catch , after all the limit per day is 5 , I would have call in these people but my cell had been dead , Oh next time they may not be so luckey , cheers Steve o

Hello again augular's ,I was out May 16 was a very cold day the wind was very cold , fish were not very active , they did seem to take the fly , but bait hum mm thats another thought maybe I should of baited with steak lol , well as I was reading others reports , I have read someone asking what is a Augular lol , well its a way I spelled it as to reel my readers in and get a meaning for these reports , Anglers is yes a proper way to spell and to read it and to understand the word and meaning of fishing , if newcomers to fishing would look up the real meaning to the word angular , They then would find that , that word has no direction to fishing ,and to search out the true word Anglers , There and only then I think they may read and decovery The laws on fishing and the sport that fishing is all about , not catch and take whatever is on the hook , Thanks for reading Steve o

Hello again angulars , a buddy text me about him hearing of some areas not going g to be stocked , because of the Whirling disease , which is something I not heard of before , but it does exist , I looked up what government information I could find on this disease , I will post this site , and myself will keep reading any reports the government post, mean while let's hope they stock Cardiff , and all other great fishing spots through out Alberta , reading this report has a lot of information on this disease and how we all can prevent it from spreading , Thanks for reading Steve o http://www.inspection.gc.ca/animals/aquatic-animals/diseases/reportable/whirling-disease/alberta-2017/eng/1492020203162/1492020203648

Well its spring again , Today is April 12/2017 a new season upon us for fishing enjoyment , I have not been out here since Nov 19/2016 and have just check on the fish stocking report , which has just updated for 2017 and no lakes or ponds has been stocked as of yet , I picked up my 2017 fishong license and looking forward to another great season of fishing , I also like to ask all who do enjoy fishing to keep our environment and our waters clean and clean up after yourself ,don't litter keep fishing line that get tangled picked up , and don't cut down any size trees so you can have a fire , use a repellant to rid bugs , dress warm or take extra clothing , and think that if I fly fish here cutting those dam tress down will help , well think about it look around there a lot of other places to fly fish without cutting more brush trees down , fish are never in one spot , and you can't whistle to them either ( PS) those who I do see others breaking these laws , I hope you call in a wildlife officer 780-427-3574 I hope this is the correct # , Thanks for reading I will report when this area has been restocked Steve O

Well all you anglers , I was out to try my luck since it was the best November 8th we had wittiness in years Temp was high of 19 C , it was very calm water that day , my buddy used a bobber , had nibblers but with no luck of a catch , I on the other hand as always rig my line with 30 inches from small hook with weight tied off , ,Caught a 11 inch , it had swallowed the hook as I always say I not for skuncked , ,even if I had got skunked , its always great to get out to fish, Oh forgotten to mention a very small full tailed fox ,tried to take my fish from behind me , So if you ever see the fox don't panic. He more afraid of you then you should be of him , Just shout he go away , its nice to see and have the wildlife near by us , keeps us all in touch of how teal our world really is , Thanks for reading enjoy the sport of fishing ,again I express try to pick up your litter and don't be cutting down the trees and starting fires. Does anyone still fish At Cardiff in November?

Star Star Star Star Star

by Steve o on Sep. 27, 2016

Hello again all , Before I start thanks for reading AWG,Well I not been on ifish for awhile now , But I have for sure been fishing ,and yes here at Cardiff , I only been skunked one night this month , but for all other times I have caught 1 to 3 fish and I can note they have been larger in size , since they have had 5 months to grow larger, The water level has dropped a lot , I not sure why I am thinking the pipe line I see being installed may be one , The weather has been awesome , ,The trout are still biting on whatever used , but I can say that as time has passed and the fish that were raised in a hatchreis , are now becoming more adapted to the wild for feeding ,so the sport fishing has began , The fish stock I can also say is doing very well, As each time I been there from mid afternoon until sunset ,had noticed a lot of jumping going on. Now for my pet peeves , And I hope that a Wild life game officers catches those in the acts of ,Cutting down the tree scurbs around the pond so they can fly fish , dam think people , there a lot of fly fishing areas without destroying the beauty of the park , Do you have fish for brains , fish swim around , and others who have camp fires on the shoreline of the ponds areas , I hope others reading this , can post a Emergency number for quick responds , For Cardiff Pond , and if you do , I myself will add it to my contact list , and maybe others to will follow ,well all happy fishing and looking forward to ice fishing , PS , as of my other postings , I have noticed I not seen anyone taken crawfish , but then again I not seen much in the water , maybe they been already fished out , but a reminder , those keep the pond clean , so let's not take them , Thanks Steve o

To all anglers. Call fish and game if you see anything. Even if it is legal in the end. They love to give info to ppl and educate them. It's part of there job and most enjoy it. As to the law breaks. don't cross my path. Happy fishing

I think the people of cardiff , do a great job at keeping this park pond clean and very groomed grounds of the park , The stocked rainbow are a very clean fish , My outlook as a angler , That for others who fish this site , should respect the water the park in keeping it clean and tidy , so the years to come others can enjoy it as well , Rules and Fines maybe should be issued to those who wreck the beauty of this wonderful site , The goverment should write the fishing rules in all immigrant languages , so their no excuses used when you see some taken buckets of small bait fish , Which I can't say for sure what theydo with them , but looking around after they have left leaves me to believe that they make a bait chum from them and toss it into the pond with a line attach , Leaving me again to guess , its used to attract raindow fish around it , so they can catch fish without the sport of patience involved in catching fish , To me those who do this is not fishing but poaching fish, A hefty fine should be placed upon those who break the law as well , As I have mentioned keeping the water from litter and the grounds , Now on crawfish hummm , they again should be left in the water for these keep the water clean , not be taken out for food , Think about it , you need hundreds to fill a family , , Now for the fishing itself I find patience and weather plays a huge roll catching fish , Some days you catch one which I call not getting skunked , the size range from 9 inch to 14 inch , myself if the fish not swallowed the whole hook I release it , on the other hand if its over 15 inch in lenght I keep , You will noticed that the fish are very clean and not muddy tasting , So please report poachers and those who litter the waterway and grounds . Thanks for reading my comments , maybe you too can leave your comments on those who break the laws

patd i'm an immigrant and just caught 15 with my 2 boys yesterday all catch and release , using dry flies we dont eat stocked rainbow trout i think it taste nasty but that's just my own opinion , dont be racist if someone is keeping his/her limit then that's within their rights as long as they have a license. you know the licenses everyone gets some portion of what we pay does get allocated to the stocking program, so without the licenses everyone pays for do you think we would have any stocked ponds ?, you know stocked rainbows doen't re-produce and alot of it dies from summer/winter kills , if you see a poacher whether an immigrant or not just report them . Immigrants have helped out building this great country as well isn't everyone an immigrant unless you're native

by patd on Jul. 11, 2016

Usually not the type to buy into it when people say a place is fished out but now I get it. I fished here mid June and caught and released my limit four times in two hours. Fished here today and in three hours I had one fish rise for a green drake. Saw maybe ten rise the entire time I was there and not one person along shore landed one. The immigrants have fished out another good pond!

Star Star Star Star Star

by LRD V8R on Apr. 12, 2016

Hey Droc1. It is a great pond for kids as there are many shore locations to do easy casting from. There is even a dock. And if the kids get bored they can fish from the dock for crayfish. :-) Go for rainbows. Bobber and worm work good. So do pickerel rigs with Powerbait. And at times the action can be non-stop with a fly rod and mosquito pattern during the summer at sun down

There's certainly lots of small trout jumping at sunset, but I've never managed to land any yet. To Cushdee, We use worms, but also shrimp, marshmallows, powerbait on a hook. Setup is bobber and a couple of weights. Seen others use no bobber just worn on a hook. They started biting north of the dockside. Small thouvgh.

Can someone tell me what bait or lure your using or can use down Cardiff? Thinking of going down in a few weeks seems like a lovely park!

I've heard years ago there was perch in here. I've been fishing this pond for years and never caught any perch. I think they only stock it with trout. It be nice if they'd put perch in here.

What do you mean docks? I have never seen any docks at cardiff. Any truth to the rumors that both Cardiff and Morinville reservoir have perch again?

Star Star Star Star Star

by iFish Guest on Jun. 10, 2013

Went out yesterday, overcast to rain and they were biting! First the docks then on the otherside. Some small ones we released back, but a couple were at least 30 cm.

Dosent winterkill very often at all...

Star Star Star Star Star

by Oly on Jun. 6, 2013

Depending on the winter, some fish may survive as I have caught large trout in the spring. Perch too. The problem at Cardiff are the lawn chair bait anglers who harvest every fish regardless of size leaving nothing behind but a pile of cigarette butts and Tim Horton cups.

Star Star Star Star Star

by Schnidy on Jun. 6, 2013

They don't make flies small enough for these fish!! Lol why would they stock such small fish in a pond that winter kills every year?

Star Star Star Star Star

by iFish Guest on Jun. 4, 2013

Went out tonight, lots rising and jumping but they are still tiny. No luck thus far.

Yes you are allowed boats in. The only thing I am not sure about is electric motors. No gas motors for sure and I think everything else is just fine.

Saturday , did not bite til' late afternoon and before sundown. Sunday were ther all day, but only caught two. Seems like everyone I talked to was having no luck either.

Star Star Star Star Star

by Dickweed on Sep. 15, 2012

Im fairly sure u cab use a Belly boat, drift boat and kayaks unless it says otherwise with some sort of signage, i think the only stupulation is no gas motors on some lake but im pretty sure if the watercraft is wind or muscular powered u should be ok... Im not 100% on that but fairly sure.. Thats jus my 2 cents im no CO tho.

Went out about two weeks ago. Easy access to the pond with lots of place to cast. Caught a few about 12inches and 1 about 16inches. Great place if you want to wet a line and don't have the time to drive 45mins, great place to take the kids.

Star Star Star Star Star

by HowGoesTheFishing on May. 16, 2012

Good small pond. Been out to it a couple of times, always a nice area and not terrible fishing. Never seen any perch but quite a few small stocked rainbows. Once in a while you can catch a good size rainbow that hasn't winter killed. Lots of fish jumping. Caught 4 small 6 or 7 inch throw back rainbows in the middle of may.

Star Star Star Star Star

by Goldeyes on May. 11, 2012

Used small spinners near the choke point on south side point. Caught 4 tiny trout in an hour, and 1 panfish, thought thoses were winter killed.

Star Star Star Star Star

Star Star Star Star Star

by Crash on May. 4, 2012

I am glad there was at least one left in the pond lol. Perhaps it was the one trout that i saw during the winter while looking down thru a hole in the ice. Is the ice completely off the pond yet? Somehow i doubt there are any perch in here as i didnt see any dead perch, only dead trout.

Star Star Star Star Star

by Brotschi on May. 3, 2012

Three of us went out on April 29 for about 3 hours. Caught one on a 5 of diamonds, but not even a bite after that. So didn't winter kill but it wasn't good. We used both spinning and fly rods

Good pond for practicing fly fishing. I think it winterkilled this year , so nothing too big in there.Like most ponds it gets slow in the summer and can be weedy in spots but still lots of open shoreline to cast from. Not sure why it is getting low scores.
