How is the ice right now at the ghost any fish biting?
by Chimbamex on Mar. 12, 2017
Started 1pm, safe to drive on. Ice more than1m thick, sunny but windy -20℃, 1km west from the boat lounge 2 of us, tried shad, black waxies, chartreuse maggots, corn, cheese; only a hit on a buzz bomb.

I don't know if you can at the village without being a resident there, I've only ever got on near the dam and drove over across the ice to the west end, unfortunately that's the only public access on the lake

How's the ice at ghost?
by WWWilverine on Jan. 25, 2017
It is a tough lake to fish! If you head west past ghost village and look for inlets on the sides of the lake and go in there where the water usually ranges from 3 to 15 feet you will have better luck! For whites I use a bead head fly with a maggot on it, also good for trout and if your really adventurous stay after dark and throw a minnow on a glow in the dark jig, let it sit a foot below bottom to hit up some burbot! Hope this helps
by t90 on Jan. 21, 2017
it was my first time ever at this lake. Access south of bow valley trail by the ghost river bridge was tough unless you had a truck to plow through slushy ice and like was on the north side but there was solid ice to drive on along the dock blocks. Ice was minimum 12 inches once on the lake. I was on the ghost river, in roughly 30-50 of water. There were other people fishing and riding motorcycles and side-by-sides. Used powerbait, minnows, shrimp and plastics but no luck. Was there for over 3 hours. Not sure what's a good area here to fish.

I was there on Sunday. Ice was way past ghost village. Ice was still covering private marina launch. Should be gone by now. PP launch was easy to launch at. Not sure why last post said it was hard to launch? Water was well above concrete.

by craigwad on Jan. 9, 2016
I'm far from being an expert but ur in the right depth range and thats the same setup as mine. I find if u pound it jog on the bottom a few times then let it sit there for a few seconds, quite often if there's one around he sucks it in right off the bottom. In my experience u have to stay VERY close to bottom.

Need some help. Went for Burbot 2 nights now. The little bay to the left of the ramp. Deep bay to your right as your head under the bridge, across from the boat yard. North side of the little island on the south side of the lake. 10 to 20 feet, glow jigs with smelt. No luck whatsoever. Wrong spots? Depth? Jigging technique? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
by brian_levesque on Jan. 3, 2016
For burbot go past the big sand bank in that bay. Some call it burbot bay. Glow in the dark works well with chunk of smelt.

Good to hear! Burbots bite dusk to late evening. Get some glow in the dark jigs and put a minnow on the hook and let it sit down a foot from the bottom. Recharge your hooks under a latren or your headlights. And when they start to bite give it a few moments to set the hook cause it takes them a bit to get the minnow in they're mouth!

by Wildwestwilverine on Feb. 10, 2014
You ipedimised my struggle with ghost! Lol that being said your right it's not just about the fish but to get away from the noise of the city, get out into nature and appriciate the calm of the lake(providing there's not car ripping by your shack lol) and we all know why we brave the cold and long hours of idle rods cause there's that chance that that rod will bend once again and all the trying and waiting has paid off! Happy fishing!
by retiredolfart on Feb. 10, 2014
For all the people looking for help on the ghost I will tell this.I fished the ghost off and on on for 18 years, it used to be better. There is no secret spot depth, or bait. Some people have permanent shacks out there and do no better than the people by the boatlaunch. the problem is the dam went up in the 1950's and except for a few years people have been driving on and fishing the lake since then, it sees heavy pressure. Your best chance is to fish for burbs at night 10pm or so or go into the shallows 8-12 fow for lakers browns whites and suckers but don't expect miracles. Some of those shacks have been out there for 10+ years and its not that the fishing is any better they are there to get away from the ice racers, donut burners and yahoos that are arround the boatlaunch. My advice is if you want to oull the kids on a sleigh, skate, drive like a maniacor if your content to fish drink play cards etc then fish at ghost. IF you want to fish for the excitement or food on the table don't waste your time with ghost goto spray lakes, farther drive but you'll catch in 1 day what you would catch in 3 weeks at ghost. Depends on what you want to do.
by Wildwestwilverine on Feb. 1, 2014
Anyone having any luck with lakers?, I'm out by ghost village near the rock ledge and wondering if anyone's tied into lakers there! Any tips on lures or strategy would be appriciated
by Thatguy585 on Jan. 29, 2014
Interesting comment. I find that I actually get strikes shorty after someone drives by. Kinda funny, but I think it actually stirs up the fish a bit. On a side note, it's really scary if they drive up to you way to fast. Just a word of caution gents, when driving around please slow way down when approaching a tent/shack to have a friendly chat. I had the poop scared out of me earlier in the season by someone stopping by (with good intent mind you) but he came rolling up on some thinner ice and was not aware.

Just kiddin, access is extremely limited, but I've always wanted to give it a try.
You guys should check out bearspaw, I hear there is good laker's in there.
Ah I saw you out there :-) if I were you, I'd get a camera/flasher. I've just recently figured the lake out, but it took a lot of skunked trips to do it (years worth). If I were you, keep moving till you find em. Punch lots of holes (I think I drilled near 50 holes one day, all over the lake) it's a tough lake to fish but if you're determined, you'll succeed.

There was a truck out on the ice about 30ft from shore and the snow is only 2-3" deep so I imagine the ice will be much thicker now after this cold weekend.
by iFish Guest on Dec. 5, 2013
Do you guys think it's safe enough to drive a quad on yet?
by Thatguy585 on Dec. 4, 2013
Sweet, let the fun begin!
by iFish Guest on Dec. 4, 2013
I was there this morning, drilled 2 holes both 7'' thick. I didnt go out very far and fished in about 20' of water.
by BassSlayer on Dec. 3, 2013
Any news? Ice updates?
by iFish Guest on Nov. 30, 2013
The ice must be thicker than 1" by now, drove by on wed & people were walking on it. Just wondering if anyone punched a hole yet?

by Sebbritton on Oct. 27, 2013
is the ice fishing good here? any suggested lures/jigs. thanks
by Bigheaddoug on Aug. 27, 2013
Could be whitefish that you see on the finder. Try maggots on a brown hackle peacook fly, size 12 or smaller.
by iFish Guest on Aug. 26, 2013
Fish finder off the charts just west of the bridge - no bits tho, a lot of traffic on the water.
by iFish Guest on Aug. 20, 2013
I've been out 4 time and not a nibble. I moore a boat there with a fish finder and the stupid thing shows tons of fish... I'm stupefied as to why I'm not catching any thing.
by Thatguy585 on Jul. 19, 2013
Heading out on Saturday. I've ice fished here & done well. Anyone have any advice for summer fishing? Should I target the same spots I ice fished?
by Eastern SeaTrout on Jul. 11, 2013
Has there been any fish caught since the flood
by iFish Guest on May. 31, 2013
Caught 2 brooks and the 3 rainbows. Nothing over 3 pounds.
by Tree magnet on May. 30, 2013
Didn't have a scale but caught approx 15lb laker from the trench. Used a 5 of diamonds spoon. Had to chase it with the boat as only had 10lb line on and it tried to empty my reel
by Returningfisher on May. 26, 2013
Very small trout.View on Map
by iFish Guest on May. 20, 2013
I fished today from the Morley Bridge - and east for a few km. bounced on the bottom, mepps, spoons, jigs.... I had a couple of nibbles, but nothing in the boat. FYI... still a great day out!
by iFish Guest on May. 8, 2013
Ice is gone!
by Thatguy585 on Apr. 10, 2013
Apparently a SUV went through the ice about a week ago. Just a heads up.
by Thatguy585 on Apr. 4, 2013
Ice check...still good out there?
by Thatguy585 on Mar. 24, 2013
I don't take the chance. I only bring my quad out. Some areas are starting to thin out (west). Be careful, if you are going westward, we maybe only have 1 weekend of "drivable" ice left. It's supposed to be really warm this week. Personally, I wouldn't take the chance.
by iFish Guest on Mar. 23, 2013
can you still drive out safely on the ice? congrats on the ghost laker
by Thatguy585 on Mar. 23, 2013
Ice'd out my 1st ghost laker! Pretty excited :-).

by Thatguy585 on Mar. 17, 2013
Agreed on the slow fishing. 1 white, saw a couple more in the cam including a small laker.
by iFish Guest on Mar. 16, 2013
ice still good today, slow fishing caught nice 32'' long burbot right before sunset 15 ft water
by iFish Guest on Mar. 15, 2013
I would like to head out tomorrow. I wanted to get some info if there is still good access to drive on the lake after the recent warm spell. I guess the cold weather today will make it easy again.
by iFish Guest on Mar. 10, 2013
Was out yesterday, very nice day no wind. Ice is between 23-26 inches across entire lake. Kept away from the dam. About 15 of us out there yesterday. Had lots of holes but a very slow day. Picked up a coulpe nice burbots 3 to 5lbs other than that nothing. May have got a couple more if we watched the rods more as they would only bite so gentle. Saw a few people on the ice but no one seemed to hit any hot spots.
The ice should still be good for another 3 weeks after that I would check it daily or keep off. But yesterday we had multiple trucks 3/4 tons running across the lake not much snow we even had a mini van on the ice and didn't get stuck following our tracks. Enjoy the hard water guys not much time left you could feel the uv rays.
by Madfisher on Mar. 9, 2013
Where at should I be fishing this lake tried down by the dam and had no luck
by iFish Guest on Mar. 8, 2013
Where on the lake are you catching the burbot bass slayer?
by BassSlayer on Mar. 4, 2013
25" where I was, 12-15' depth burbot a every 20mins after sun set.
by BassSlayer on Feb. 26, 2013
Can someone post a current / recent Ice depth? Still over 20"'s I'm assuming....
by Tron on Feb. 20, 2013

We are fishermen I guess lol
by iFish Guest on Feb. 17, 2013
Whipper tried just south of Ghost village in depths from 30-55' on Jan 28th. No fish on sonar. I notice many huts parked on south shore of lake. Maybe I'll try there this week.
by iFish Guest on Feb. 15, 2013
The fish in the lake where i was where all kinds, there was a few lakers for sure. i was dead sticking it can once there was a fish i twitched my bait abit (2 inchs) and then they would bite very light. they would also hit completely still bait but you have to watch your rod most of the time to see the bite. i had a fish cam to so i could see the fish
by iFish Guest on Feb. 12, 2013
I fish guest were they lakers or other trout, pulled out lots of whites and a handful of burbot would like to get a laker any tips would be appriaciated
by iFish Guest on Feb. 10, 2013
I went fishing today (feb 10th 2013) and i fished in front of the rockslide area west of the parking lot by the dam. I seen 7 ish fish (all trout) and they were bitting! i missed the hook sets and they where in the 15"+ range. using minnows in 70+ feet of water. fish the bottom 2-6 feet off the bottom. dead stick with a jig ever few mins.any Q's? ask.
by Thatguy585 on Feb. 2, 2013
Ghost just went up a notch in my books. Saw fish on the cam :-). Have yet to land one, but my faith in this lake is restored. Fish were seen not too deep. 20-25. One tried to eat my cam. Good times.

Most of the land that way is reserve but I've seen people out at the church star watching at night, so I believe the roads fine to drive on and the area around the church
by Slick on Jan. 29, 2013
Hey Will - have you driven from the boat launch to the inlet that you fish. Just wanted to check that the ice is thick enough all the way across.
And PengY - what time of day and how deep of water are you getting burbot?
by PengY on Jan. 29, 2013
Catching nothing but burbot... Really would like to snag a few trout
by Fish nut on Jan. 28, 2013
Thanks but isn't that native land?
by Wilverine on Jan. 28, 2013
You can drive all the way from the boat launch or head west on the road past the launch up the hill until you see the white church on the left then park and walk down, head east of the church there's one fence to hop then your there
The ice has started to crystallize. Starting to get unsafe. If its warm next weekend be careful!
by Burbot on Jan. 27, 2013
Thanks! Can you drive there on the ice?
by Wilverine on Jan. 27, 2013
Go near the mcdougal church at the west end of the lake near Morley reserve there's a nice round Inlet there the burbot love to scavenge in, course dusk and night is the best time to catch them
by Burbot on Jan. 25, 2013
Any one catching burbot?
by That guy on Jan. 24, 2013
Hi Whipper, please let us know how you do in deeper water. Not looking for a specific spot just confirmation of a depth range. I can't go this weekend, but next weekend ill be hitting the ice at Ghost hard. Deep would seem to be the way to go. I know in the spring, lakers can be found in shallow water...so hopefully my hunch is right.
by whipper on Jan. 24, 2013
I've been out to Ghost three times in past two weeks. Mainly fished west of ice boats in depths from 11'-42'. Not a fish on the depth finder. Lures/baits vary. I think 'Thatguy' is on to something with the depth. Next time I'll try quite deep; maybe 60+? Suggestions welcome!
by Burbot on Jan. 22, 2013
Hey. I miss burbot meat. Ill buy some if any one can catch them!
by That guy on Jan. 22, 2013
Thanks Wildwestwolverene. I have two new spots I'm going to try for lakers. I've heard various reports of depth that they could be in. I'm going to try the SE corner, east of the big island 20-30 ft of water & west of where they keep the ice boats (earlier tip posting) using a buzz bomb & smelt head. One other tip suggested going super deep around mid day (seems logical). I'm a little concerned that things have slowed though. I was at spray last weekend, and the bite was super slow (in a spot that typically produces lots of fish). My instinct tells me to go deep, like in Spray, but the tips all point toward fishing shallower water 15-20'. My understanding is that lakers like quick access to deep water. They feed in the shallow & move to the deep as the day progresses. Temperature plays a big role in their feeding habits...could be wrong in my assumption though.
by Burbot on Jan. 19, 2013
Thanks everyone for the help but still is anyone catching burbot? Is there another lake where they are plentiful?
by Wildwestwilverine on Jan. 19, 2013
Hey that guy I had the same problem try six separate times with out any luck what's so ever, if you drive even further west from the village there's a long narrow island that has a rock ledge and some spruce trees on it I've had luck on the north tip there I use bead head flies with some maggots on the tip for white fish and smelts for the burbot never caught any burbot there but there's a cove farther west of there to the north that's good for them and white fish, as for the lakers no luck there myself, their my next quest!
by That guy on Jan. 14, 2013
Was out on Sat. Tried the point near ghost village, the cove & the ghost side. Depth ranging from 15-30'. Was there before sun up. Brought my fish camera. Tried buzz bombs, jig heads, and atomic teasers, tipped with a smelt. Fished from sun up till 3pm. Saw absolutely nothing on the camera & no hits. I know there has to be fish on here but holy cow is that a blow to the confidence. Ghost has once again put me in my place. I'm a fairly seasoned fisherman & this has to be the toughest place to fish on the planet. It's like trying to get that attractive girl that everyone wanted in high school, but is way out of your league. I'm going one more time this Sat. If no results, ill accept defeat, and move on.

by Hookedonfishin on Jan. 4, 2013
Hi That Guy and Lobster, Ghost can be a skunker but keep at it. I have been fairly consistent over the years just West of where the ice sailboats are kept by the South parking lot. Fish 15 feet of water about 30 feet from shore with 2 inch silver buzzbomb with minnow. Jig just off bottom, goodluck.
by Atlantic lobster on Jan. 3, 2013

Hey Hookedonfishing, I've been trying to find any lake trout on this lake. Would you be able to point me in the right direction? I've had a lot of success at Spray, but none at Ghost.

I hear the burbot can be caught up on the west end of the lake where the bow enters. Not much of a burbot fisherman but I hear night time is the best for burbot fishing.
by Fishing on Dec. 27, 2012
Still where are the burbot ?
by That guy on Dec. 26, 2012
Well, same result as usual. But may have found some new spots on the lake thanks to a couple helpful locals. I like a challenge. A fellow I spoke to said he pulled a 5-6lb laker close to where I was fishing.
by broadstbullie on Dec. 25, 2012
Good luck. I generally catch smaller lakers on ghost, however a fella late spring pulled up a 17lber.
by That guy on Dec. 25, 2012
Fair enough. I've caught lakers before at Spray. It's always fun, just never landed any big ones. My old man & I caught some decent ones out of minnewanka in the summer, and I figured since they were pretty close, ghost would hold good big lakers as well. I won't hold my breath, but I've heard roomer that they exist in ghost. I just need to find ... well at this point ... any lakers in there. Heading out tomorrow. Should hopefully bring new luck. Will post results.
by broadstbullie on Dec. 24, 2012
go to Spray Lk if your looking for local lakers action...Ghost is tough for most
by That guy on Dec. 24, 2012
Thanks for the advice. Ill give it a try again after the 25th & post results. I've tried this lake multiple times in the winter without success (in areas you'd typically find lakers). This year I've tried near the boat launch and on some steep shoreline just west of it with bubkas to show. I was thinking of trying the near the south east end of the island (closest to the dam). I have a quad and may try other spots as well. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm specifically targeting lakers. Apparently there is an abundance of whites & rainbows in there.
by broadstbullie on Dec. 23, 2012
16" of solid ice today
by Jp on Dec. 23, 2012
Lakers are a fussy fish. Seems to me they only hit in the morning. Usually by noon they stop biting it seems Fish the bottom. Let your lure hit the bottom the occasional time. This sometimes triggers them. But if you do it too much you can spook them. The deepest spot in the lake would be ideal.
by Fuzzy grubber on Dec. 19, 2012

About the lake comments on where to fish. On the big side the middle.. on the short leg side shore line. And a 5 of diamonds spoon works well or just a fly trolling slow early morn or late eve. When the traffic is lite.
